“NEGRO PLEASE!”
by Abdul Hakim-Shabazz“Negro Please” is Black people’s way of saying “give me a break.” The term is usually used when another Black person says something so ridiculous that you have had enough like the the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, for example.
When asked about Wright yesterday at his town hall meeting in the park, Obama was polite in his denunciation, but the look on his wife Michelle’s face said it all. She declined to comment about Wright but I’ve seen that look before. It’s that look my mother and my girlfriend give me when I start talking and don’t know when to shut up and eventually say something that goes overboard. In another time and place I would end up wearing hot grits, luckily I exercise the better part of valor.
However, what a lot of people (usually white) don’t understand is that Wright’s controversial remarks aren’t really anything new. The problem is that he won’t shut up. If anything, his talking is helping Obama because the more Wright talks the more he looks like a show-boater who’s out to get the candidate because he’s more popular than him.
If anything Wright should follow Michelle Obama’s example. If you can’t say anything nice, shut up!
WEDNESDAY IN THE PARK WITH OBAMA
by Abdul Hakim-ShabazzBarack Obama wrapped up an hour long town hall meeting this afternoon in Garfield Park talking to Hoosiers about gas prices, education and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Obama said Senator Hillary Clinton’s call to suspend the gas tax for summer would only amount to savings of about 30 cents a day. He says he’s putting the issue of Jeremiah Wright behind them and focusing on issues like health care and education.
Obama and his wife had lunch at the Beech Grove home of Mike and Cheryl Fisher. They talked over sandwiches. Mike Fisher, who considers himself a good judge of character, said Obama came across as a very likable person and he did not hold the controversial remarks of Obama’s former pastor against him. He also said the Obamas are not elitists and could connect with blue-collar, working class Hoosiers.
TOP OF THE HILL
by Abdul Hakim-ShabazzIt looks like Barack Obama is about to get another Indiana Super Delegate. Talking Points Memo reports Rep. Baron Hill (D-9) is going to endorse Obama this evening. Anyone reading this blog already knows this because we told you this weeks ago.

AARON SULLIVAN IN 100 WORDS
by Abdul Hakim-ShabazzAaron Sullivan is a candidate for the Franklin Township School Board.
I believe that values learned in your family along with a solid education supports an individual’s success and a more successful society. You deserve a School Board that will accomplish the community’s education goals while appreciating your tax commitment. Education has become expensive and I want to be conservative with your money. The School Board must get as many resources as possible to parents, students and teachers without driving citizens out of our community with unnecessary taxes. Together we can accomplish balancing tax rates with education success. This will lead to a community with lower crime and higher property values.
PM POLITICS
by Abdul Hakim-ShabazzIt’s been a long day and I’m really tired, but I wanted to post these few items before bed.
The latest poll of the Presidential, Gubernatorial, 7th District and 5th District Congressional races are showing some interesting results. The poll conducted by Howey Politics Indiana and Gauge Market Research of shows Hillary and Barack basically tied. Jill with a big lead over Jim and Andre and Danny doing better than Woody, David Carolene and John.
Jill got a letter from angry lawyers telling her to stop using images of schools their client designed in her commercial. It wasn’t Jim’s firm, but the firm of Schenkel and Schultz. I thought the taxpayers owned the schools, not the firms who built them. This will be fun to watch.
Carl, Jim and Mike want to rewrite the state’s fetal homicide laws in the wake of the shooting that killed the unborn twins of a bank teller in Indianapolis. Under the current law the fetus has to be viable outside the womb. This would change that, however the state would still have to prove the defendant knew the woman was pregnant.
DOES ALP = HRC?
by Abdul Hakim-ShabazzThe Barack Obama campaign says the American Leadership Project is really a shill for the Hillary Clinton campaign. The ALP is going to spend nearly half a million dollars on anti-Obama ads in the Hoosier state. However a spokesman for the Obama camp says key members of the group are all Clinton backers.
For example, Jason Kinney the group co-Chairman is the son of State Senator Vi Simpson who is a Clinton supporter. ALP creator Roger Salazar is a former spokesman for the Clinton White House.
Spokesman Kevin Griffis says the group ran negative and misleading ads in Pennsylvania and will do so here in Indiana. If the Obama people are smart they will take the kid gloves off and and put the brass knuckles on. Now is not the time to punk out.
