Mr. Saturday Night

It’s that time of year again.   It’s the second Saturday night of Indiana Black Expo and I’m getting ready to head downtown in a bit to work the door at Nicky Blaine’s.  I’m expecting it to be pretty violence free.

IMPD has done a pretty good job of warning the trouble makers to stay away.  They’ve stepped up police presence and with HUD’s help they’ve also sent letters to people who live in public housing letting them if their kids get in trouble downtown they could lose their housing subsidy.  (Awesome!!!)

I’ll be posting tonight on Twitter, so feel free to follow me.  The only scary part of all this are the young girls who decide to exercise the “clothing optional” portion of the evening.

    All such efforts are appreciated, but I will still stay away from Downtown until IBE is over.

    Having lived downtown for several years (St. Clair / Penn), and just spent a pleasant late afternoon / early evening there; Expo brings many visitors, fora & entertainment to Indy- every summer!

    The founding spirit of this event shouldn’t be fouled by the misbehavior of a few, anymore than the Indy 500 should be so misjudged.

    BTW, there are free health screenings every year during & sponsored through IBE; for anyone interested, like all its other events.

    Went to a downtown restaurant, Saturday night, the waitress stated, we were her first table, it was 7:30, the events of two years ago still have a chilling effect on both IBE and downtown businesses.
    IMPD can’t police stupid!
    Overheard a major hotel was only 50% booked for this weekend.

    Great time for Saturday night. I just hope it’s always that way. Peaceful. I mean free from any violence. Costumers should sometimes eliminate the costumers-are-always-right rule though.

    1.  How many police officers are we paying to maintain the peace this year for IBE?

    2.  How many police officers did we pay to maintain the peace when the FFA was in town earlier this year?
