Monday Morning Mayoral Musings

With about 24 hours to go before the polls open, I’m going to take a pass on commenting on the candidates for Mayor and instead let two other people do it.  One is a Melina Kennedy supporter and the other a Greg Ballard supporter, both are good friends.

I think the race is close and will be won or lost in the Black community as evidenced by Kennedy and Ballard’s joint appearances Sunday morning at Eastern Star Church’s west side campus, much to the chagrin of Pastor Jeffrey Johnson.  Who by the way was very even-handed in his speaking about both candidates, however, I couldn’t help but think of  Matthew 23:27-29 when Johnson said he was happy to see Ballard and have him at Eastern Star.

Here are the respective commentaries…

Why I Am Supporting Ballard

Why I Am Supporting Kennedy

The polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

    Solid commentries.  Thank you.

It’s always amusing that folks point to The Star as a “liberal rag” or “misguided” when it tilts toward Democrats.  It has historically been known among journlistic types, as one of the nation’s most-conservative newspapers.  That’s just a fact.

Since Gannett bought it, the editorial page is 50-50.  Right-wingers don’t like that kind of fairness.  Under prior ownership, it was John Birch-right, 95% of the time.

Tomorrow, newspaper endorsement own’t mean squat.  It’s all about the ground game.

    Good luck to both candidates.

I thought the Kennedy article was thoughtful.

However, the Ballard article did not seem to be written on why someone or even the author should vote for Ballard but how wrong the Star’s endorsement of Kennedy was.  As a result many good reasons to vote for Ballard were not even mentioned.

TA, it’s good to see you ride the fence, I am not a D or R, I am for the right thing to do, so many politicians have an agenda, and not what the people want.
I always ask the candidate, there are two reasons to run for office, 1. to serve yourself, 2. to serve others.

I was down at the State legislature last winter, and believe me most, NOT all are there to serve themselves.
I have never been to D.C. but it’s just a larger scale there on serving themselves.

I want to outlaw lobbyist! their the greatest threat to freedom in this great country.
    Nuff said for today!

May the American process begin tomorrow.

I agree with this one, the interview on 60 minutes last night with Jack Abramoff made me want to vomit. People need to see this to truely know just how much our elected politicians don’t care squat about the people they represent, just the money and power it gets them during office and when out of office. My advice is find the 60 minute piece and see for yourself, straight from the man doing the buying of politicians. He even said that at the time he was disappointed because he only controlled 100 out of the total bunch.

Mayor Ballard’s endorsement was written from a citizen perspective vs. personal friend.  From a citizen’s perspective (majority of folks who don’t know the Mayor personally), the Mayor’s record is an advantage.

Both endorsements seem sincere.  However, consider the challenger’s displayed lack of leadership, are profoundly exposed within her very endorsement; her egregious, inhumane promotion by silence, of false charges & mischaracterizations against Mayor Ballard.  A leader (!), would publicly, stand up & do what’s right, about that which her endorser confirms as truth.

P.S.  Like other minorities, not all Dave’s are alike.

  • M Theory

The mailer sent by the Kennedy camp to predominantly minority neighborhoods that insinuated Ballard is racist was way over the top.

While I don’t see a ton of differences coming our way in regard to to pay-to-play in this town, I don’t want someone in office that will falsely accuse racism.

Melina Kennedy should have denounced those mailers.   Ballard is a lot of things, but he is not a racist.

I’m voting for Ballard.   Of the three choices we get this time, I feel he is the best choice.  I also think he’s going to win it again.

  • Kowabunga

Too often, hoosiers get complacent with their surroundings.  If this is what you want, continued mediocrity, pay to play contractors, and short sighted goverment, then go ahead and vote for Ballard.

I am not 100% clear on what a Kennedy administration would look like, but I am pretty sure it won’t look like this one.   She has already asserted that a 100% smoking ban would be a top priority, early education a BIG priority, and eliminating Frank Straub and his sidekicks an absolute priority.  Those 3 right there are enough to make my vote for Kennedy.

  • Pissed off in Stringtown

Id vote for a door knob if it promised to get rid of Straub

  • Ramon

When will Ballard apologize for suggesting in his mailer that Kennedy was soft on rape?    His allegation was scandalous.

  • TheRealRamon

When Melina stops suggesting he’s responsible for IPS’ failing schools.

  • Kowabunga

Well, lets hope many people remember all the negatvity Straub has brought to the city.  Therefore sending Straub and his cronies packing.

And he’s not even registered to vote here! Another great move my ballard.  Would be great to see it come down to ONE vote!  LOL.

  • Southsider

Ballard won’t need Straub’s vote, evidently Kennedy needs all the votes she can get…. Bayh flew into town to vote tomorrow and he doesn’t even live here.

  • Dave

Actually, people know what a Detroit style over substance administration looks like, & we’ve got the past as proof- 7 blank budget pages (!?!), IMPD under the Sheriff, public assembly room shut outs, tax on tax, gate kept access for minority businesses (including women owned); all “managed” during a comparatively superior economy.  How “good” would it all be in this economy?

Which city, managed by fauxgressives, would be the “model?”  No thanks.

  • Rico

Name just one big city in this nation run by liberal Dems that isn’t spiraling down to perpetual ghettohood (if it isn’t already there).

    Thanks! This is
something I’ve really missed and was very happy to find. :)
