Monday Morning Musings

Today a federal judge will hear arguments regarding an injunction against the state law that defunds Planned Parenthood.  I plan to be in court today observing, so here’s the latest political gossip, rumor and innuendo for your reading pleasure…

  • Now that Mitch Daniels is out of the race for President, the word is he is gravitating toward former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman as his choice for the GOP nomination.
  • Some of the recent controversy surrounding Indiana Black Expo may come down to politics.  A number of employees have expressed their concerns about the management style of IBE CEO Tanya Bell.  However, I’m told some of that criticism is rooted in the fact that Bell has a productive relationship with Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and there are number of employees upset the Mayor received Expo’s  highest award last year.  They felt it should not have gone to him because his is white, a Republican and this year is an election year.
  • Outgoing Washington Township Superintendent James Mervilde told a crowd this past week that he will do everything in his power to make sure charter schools never open up in his school district. If his schools are performing, he shouldn’t have much to worry about. Merrvilde is leaving at the end of June.
  • I hear there could be some changes coming soon to the Marion County Democratic Party. Ed Treacy is rumored to be stepping down by the end of the year. Possible replacements include, Kip Tew, Melina Kennedy and David Suess.
  • Speaking of Melina, there’s talk she plans a big transparency push later this summer.  Once the details get worked out, she plans to release the names of clients she’s worked for at while Baker Daniels and what she did.  She also reportedly plans to promise to make sure none of those clients get “undue” access, should she become Mayor.  Stay tuned.
  • I expect it to be a busy weekend in Indianapolis.  Indiana Democrats are holding their annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner at the JW Marriott. The keynote speaker is DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Indiana Young Republicans are holding their state convention downtown as well at the Crowne Plaza. And in the middle of all that is Indy Pride and Saturday Mike Pence has a kick off rally for his candidacy for Governor in Columbus.

That’s all for now.

Mayor Ballard has had a Republican majority council and raised taxes and fees more than a 100 times.  We dropped the ball, Ernie.  Saying R’s will always lower taxes…well that’s not true locally, because the Establishment R’s like to give our tax dollars away to their fat cat friends.

  • Melyssa

Ernie?  There is aspartame and fluoride in that Kool-aid you drink.  Don’t worry, they will not cause cancer.

The problem is that people are NOT voting for Kennedy, they are voting AGAINST Ballard (and Frank Straub).

Mel you know me better than that. I was simply
bringing to Paul’s attention what he should already know. What could and should
happen if he continues to publicly bash the Party and its candidates. Do you
really think Ed the belly would gave a pass to a D who bashed the party? Do you
think Chris would support an L who did the same? Hell NO!

There is a reason MK quit. The reason should come out
before the election IF the voters are given a fair shake. Do some checking
Paul, you are connected. If I can get to the truth so can you.

Paul, the party chose Ballard in the primary. It’s the
job of every PC, WC, TC and every R to get behind our candidates. IF you are a
republican then that includes you too.

But..Ernie, You arent the Republican County Chair, unlike Ed and Chris for their parties.  So it’s not your place to chastise someone who points out obvious truths about Ballard and the “Country Club” politics he said he would get rid of but has embraced like a whore on a sailor who has a 48 hr liberty pass.

You show far more blind loyalty to your party than the Party shows its supporters, and then you threaten future retaliation over someone who doesn’t share your ‘lock-down’ on dissent.  The Gestapo did that, too.  Something to think about, nicht wahr?

Laugh!  Nick, has IBE ever had its act together???

It is nothing but a riot w/clout.

Obama’s change is like a diaper change…both full of sh*%!!!

  • Think Again

I love a good Republican fight.  When we fight on the “D” side, it’s usually over before it starts.

This is getting GOOD!  Ernie threatening Paul.  That’s so freaking priceless.

  • Indyernie

I’ve never stated that I was a County Chair and I’m not
speaking for any of them. I’m a WC and I understand party loyalty.

I don’t always agree with the position every R candidate
takes on every issue but, unlike Paul I don’t take our differences public.

I also understand what is expected of me and that is to
support the R slate, all of it. Paul refuses to or doesn’t understand party loyalty.

  • Indyernie

Read the comment TA… Jezz I expected better of you.

  • Melyssa

Thank God there are people of conscience within the parties who WILL tattle.  Otherwise Independents like myself would not know what is really going on.

I don’t need to vote for a wolf in sheep’s clothing (or a RINO).

So much for the “transparency” of the R’s, Ernie.

  • Wurstnitemare

Ernie, Paul and Political ambitions? He has about as much chance of getting elected to anything as Jason Fishnburns daddy did. Oh wait all of the Republicans got their asses kicked in Mairon county the last election,,,,,,

  • MH

Nothing ‘good’ here..there are no winners.
    The Dead envy the living.
    ~Joker…”Full Metal jacket”

  • Wurstnitemare

Not sure, I just see him doing it, Kip is honestly interested in his community, unlike the leadership at the MCRCC. Honestly, a MCRCC charman that has never won an election.? A Mayors campaign manager that has never won an election…Please…

  • Wurstnitemare

Matt,That was the brilliant Tommy John who pulled that that great move. Kyle was Massas Campaihn manager, the MCRCC rewarded him wiht the chairmans job..gotta love it

  • Wurstnitemare

Paul, that will change in the next election 16-13 at best

  • Wurstnitemare

Wheres wilson when you need him

  • pascal

    Answer the question, Indyernie.

  • Ramon

Why has Daniels not discussed the crisis in his homeland of Syria?  Is he too uncaring or just afraid that the skeltons in his family closet will become public?  Has he no shame???

  • Anonymous

Good to hear concern about what our public officials aren’t talking about.  Jobs numbers, FSSA, IURC, and the coal gasification plant are probably even more apt topics for an Indiana governor that the plight of Syria.

While contemplating a lack of discussion, anybody notice President Obama seems to lack conducting those wide-open press conferences that prior Presidents used to get hammered for when they avoided them?  Where’s his disclosure of educational and health records to douse the furor similar to the birth disclosure?  Where’s a CBO-gradable alternative economic plan, so we may publicly thrash it about similar to Rep Ryan’s?

However, if I’ve meandered too far and foreign policy is the slant on this, where’s his visit to Israel in support their country as he has visited Saudi Arabia and Egypt?

Ramon has a very good point that it’s as much what our public servants leave out, as what they share with us.

B&Ts bills are a half of what IM charged under Peterson.

  • pascal

IM, I assume is Ice Miller?  And does the 50% less mean that they are doing 50% less work or does it mean their rates are 50% less? But, either answer is sorta welcomed.

  • pascal

The brain of a bird seems largely to be composed of an outsized optic nerve.  So,  a bird brained person is one who reacts more to what he sees rather than using whatever common sense he has to wrap his whole mind around it.  Folks unaware of the source of the phrase might think it pejoritive-it was merely an attempt at description.

  • pascal

I can’t imagine anyone being interested in Mitch’s views on the terrorist state of Syria.  No one would be interested, Ramon, in the rathole your ancestors escaped from either.

  • http://twitter.com/IndyStudent Matthew Stone

Ice Miller is hardly a “Democrat” firm and still gets tons of legal work from the city. Weren’t they the ones that represented the city in the water deal?

  • Rico

That was your first mistake, Ernie.
