IMPD Conspiracy Theory
The squirrels must really be excited today because the conspiracy theory nuts are out in force. I’m not talking about my usual conspiracy theorists, I’m talking old school wing-nuts.
In case you hadn’t heard, because you live in the real world, there is a school of thought out there that the shootings that occurred a couple Saturdays ago during Indiana Black Expo were actually committed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department as a way to make Expo look bad and to put young black men behind bars.
You can pick your jaw up off the floor now.
Now I have lived in enough places to know that the nut jobs will always be with us, heck, I’m a radio talk show host. And I can live with the crazies spouting off their theories. However, when local elected officials start spouting that same insanity, it’s time to step up and nip this silliness in the bud.
During an afternoon radio interview on the black gospel station, Indianapolis City-County Councilor William “Duke” Oliver said police need to release the videotapes of the shooting incidents so that the public “can know the truth”. Know the truth about what? To say the public needs to “know the truth” insinuates that IMPD is lying about the shooting.
Did I forget to mention the nut jobs also say the probable cause affidavit doesn’t mention accused shooter Shamus Patton being caught on tape, although it does mention the bullets were fired from the gun used that night were consistent with the one he owned.
I have never considered Bill Oliver to be one of the great minds of Indianapolis, but to make statements like this, as an elected official, is irresponsible and frankly reprehensible. It only fuels ignorance and makes it more difficult for us to have grown up discussions about serious problems.
I would hope that this would be the last time Oliver would make an idiotic statement like this, but knowing his past record, it probably won’t be.

Maybe the slating/primaries next year will thin he herd of the less-than-intelligent in both caucuses. It's about damned time.

There is a lot I could criticize about the IMPD, but this is simply ludricrous. And, for Councilor Oliver to give any credence to it is inexcusable.

And, Ajabu is dangerous. He now thinks he has the power of one of the city's largest black churches behind him. I believe in the power of redemption, but this man has enough nonsense in his past for a hundred redemptions. He speaks clearer than the deputy mayor, but the same mush comes out of his mouth.

Crazy Larry was spouting some foolishness about this on Amos radio show after the shooting (comments and audio podcast still on WTLC website).
The surprising part is WTLC callers actually bought into Larrys theory as the show progressed and Amos didn't try to stop such unsupported rumor.

C'mon, Abdul, get with the program. I don't know all the facts, but I will say that the police “acted stupidly” in arresting young Shamus. It's a new day in America. Let's make our president proud!

I am surprised because the reasoning was that “it was a set up because only white people would shoot in a crowd and that black people hit the people they aim at.” In addition the photo of the Mayor smiling at news conference on the Shamus arrest was proof that he had pulled one over on black people”.
Amos and some of his audience were there and are smart enough to recognize just plain stupid talk and set the record straight.

If this statement came from Ajabu, then it doesn't surprise me. I have been following him for over sixteen years now and am intimately aware of his philosophy and his associations in our community. He plays the race card by stroking the flames of fear and I have been forwarded many of his newsletters by a friend with elements of bigotry which violates the very definition of what a Christian is about which is based directly upon God's love for us and the very commandment that we are to love our fellow brothers and sisters for it is out of love that real healing starts.
Ajabu has attempted to redefine himself in many ways, but his idealism is still stuck in the 1960s as his views of the world is that of white vs black, but the times have changed and Americans are aware of the race baiting happening and reasonable people of all races and socio-economic backgrounds will enjoin and call out these such actions as evil and demand those who participates in this corruption to cease and desist.
If Ajabu continues, the next major protest will happen at his church. We will gather churches from across our community and out of love, we will educate Light of the World's membership towards the principles in which all people were instructed to follow for it is our job to be accountable to each other and our inaction has allowed this nonsense to occur for far too long.

This just shows that some in the black community will do anything to put the blame on anybody except where it belongs. On their own people. We must watch what we say here because as you know, anyone who speaks the truth, will be labeled a racist by some.
