The Fallout Continues

The last 24 hours have reminded me of the old saying  “may you live to see interesting times.”    Because looking at the lay of the political landscape here in Indianapolis, the times are interesting and Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi is at ground zero.

Republican candidate Mark Massa called on Brizzi to resign.  Brizzi called that ridiculous and Marion County Democrats are trying to stay relevant in the conversation after getting outmaneuvered and politically neutered by Massa.

I was at a GOP function yesterday and had several candid conversations with local Republicans with all of them agreeing that Brizzi should step down.  They were split on how the call for his resignation was done.  Some thought it should have come from Republican County Chairman Tom John.  Others thought Brizzi should have gotten a courtesy call first.  Regardless, they all said it was a longtime in the making.

The most potent quote of the evening was from a former Brizzi friend who said “he’s become the Monroe Gray of our party.”  Pretty powerful stuff.

Since Brizzi says he won’t step down, the best he can hope for is to mitigate damages by explaining to the public why he’s done nothing wrong.  Being a public official he already has a built in platform and he can also use his weekend radio program to make his case as well.  I’m more than happy to give him as much time as he wants to make his case on my radio program.

Unfortunately, it looks like Brizzi will have to play defense for the rest of his term.  And if  the shoes keep dropping, the only thing the public will hear is the sound they make when they hit the floor.

The Monroe reference is kinda funny Abdul, but also kinda cheap, and here's why:

Yeah, Monroe shold be gone. But, at his worst, he didn't have the power or lack of brains, to try to get friends' clients off criminal charges. And get their confiscated property released.

At least, as far as we know.

He was: a bad council president, who misused his personal power and influence, to get contracts for a company he controlled, which went under, which owed folks money at the time, and which were the subject of lawsuit(s) and judgment(s) that included garnishment of his council and/or firefighter wages.

Yep, pretty ugly. That's a given. It's also so, well…as the song goes, “it's so 2008, and you're 2000 and late.”

The judiciary holds sway over us in extraordinary manner. Their ethics should be above reproach. Now, if you really want to dig, there are plenty of incomptent judges, too…the running joke is that the Marion County bench is a dumping ground for bad lawyers. But, I'm not aware of any who blatantly stepped into cases to alter criminal charges.

Even for CB, that was pretty ballsy. And his are brass.

TA, that may be the case. But you ask local attorneys whether they prefer practicing in our local federal court or thestate court (including Marion County Superior Court), and most prefer the later overhwhelmingly. I agree totally though that we need a new way of selecting judges in Marion County.

It looks like its going to get worse. Now we find out that Brizzis campaign manager is now the campaign manager for Dennis Fishburns sheriff campaign. So now Fishbrun and Brizzi are tied togeather.

That does explain a lot of things. Fishburns campaign is being run exactly like Brizzis campaign. It does explain where Fishbruns money comes from, brizzi had over $500 ki in his account.

How deep does Brizzis influance go?

TA: It seems that Monroe's “magic” got a City Councillor acquitted of a criminal charge by a Democrat judge wherein the decision was contrary to facts and the Democrat judge didn't comment on the finding….

I'm with you on the coroner Indy. But:

Monroe had nothing to do withi Doris's troubles. Feel free to make the “birds of a feather” argument all you want. If you're such a conspiracy theorist, frankly, you'd hit more paydirt with the Patrice Abdullah scene. Monroe's fingerprints are all over that. But not Doris.

And he had no love lost for Ron Gibson, either. Just check out how many folks are behind Ron's silly mayoral campaign. Wayyyyyyy behind–like in the next stratosphere.

No, Indy, Monroe did enough damage on himself. he didn't need to inflict his magic on others.

And I don't think he tried in the cases you mention. Although, you didn't mention the peashakes, and I've always wondered how they oeprated so freely without fear of prosecution. Sure, they chased a few folks out once in awhile, but not enough. And they're open again.

Will Brizzi get a pension paid for by taxpayers?

I heard him on his show which a glorified brag fest on himself. It was disgusting to hear him go on and on and on about his zealous belief that violent criminals should serve their full sentences knowing what we know about Willoughby.

Brizzi has misued his power and is a fraud and hypocrite.

I wish I could take back my votes for him. I knew he was scum when he took the stage on the mayor's election night and took credit for something he didn't have a hand in making happen.

An aside, OK, way aside; but, has anyone noticed how judges are elected in this county? It hardly seems “representative.”

Par exemple; if citizens are given 8 votes for judges & there are only 8 names on the ballot, what under heaven is that? Representative government?

That process, if I understand it correctly (could have it wrong, corrections invited / encouraged / welcomed), is entirely a circumvention of the citizens' right to choose (elect); a denial of process & rights.

This is incredible! Brizzi is sooo corrupt:

Dave: each time judges are on the ballot, I think only one loses. If there are 18 on the ballot, 17 win. Or something akin to that. It's insane.

And Paul, I have been in multiple courts in this county on business. Two of my best friends are attorneys who are likewise in multiple Superior Courts.

Our opinion is unanimous regarding local Superior Courts.

I have no experience in federal courts, except watching a couple of judges as a spectator.

Judge Barker was superb, even tho I disagree with her political basics. A deputy US Atty. friend has nothing but praise for the other federal judges here.

Except, maybe, the bankruptcy courts. But they're so overloaded I don't know how they get anything done.

No, Paul, I'll stick with my original observation. Very comfortably.

My experience in bankruptacy court here was that the judge was crooked and was later found to be so by others. It is a problem with specialized courts, like the proposed “court” for exclusive jurisdiction on medical malpractice, regardless of political party leanings.

Brizzi's campaign manager is also managing Ballard's re-election campaign. The “outsider” Mayor is way inside now!!

A call should have come from Tom John? Nobody listens to that fool that would be the last call Brizzi would take. Massa said it first, and then county chair said “me too”. What gives him some inside track to what is right and wrong? didnt he just name helen marchal as the replacement and she fell apart immediately. Massa will distance himself from brizzi and tom john because one is a criminal and the other is incompetent. oh except he won the governors race and mayors race…..ha.

Even if one were to assume that all the “stuff” about the prosecutor is true, don't think that removal of him will be accomplished anytime soon. The SC of Indiana moves slower than Owl dung. Consider the following letter to the editor concerning a prosecutor, and, then, consider if Indiana rules against these sorts of corruptions don't need revision. This prosecutor, by the way, is running for re-election…..
“Mark McKinney: Answer me this. If re-elected, how long during that term will you not be prosecutor? As a concerned voter, I worry that a vote for you will be for someone who will not be in office for the full term. It seems like a wasted vote.

In denying your attempt at plea-bargaining your current difficulties, the Indiana Supreme Court said that a 90-day suspension of your law license with an automatic reinstatement of that license was not sufficient punishment in light of your misconduct. If it's the 90 days they don't like, then you'll not be prosecutor for longer than three months. If it's the automatic reinstatement they quarrel about, I'm told the reinstatement process could take 1 -2 years. If they have disbarment in mind, then you could not be prosecutor for life.

Why should I vote for a man whom I know the Indiana Supreme Court will not allow to be prosecutor for his full term?”
