Treated Like Royalty

The pro-township forces keep telling me that township government is important because it’s the government closest to the people.  Maybe someone should tell that to the Franklin Township Trustee Terry Royalty.   I’m told he’s been on vacation in Florida since October and apparently this tends to be an annual trip.

Now I should be surprised, but I’m not.  I’m also told right after he got elected, he went to the township advisory board for a raise.

Now I don’t know about you, but if someone was trying to eliminate my job, saying it was inefficient and it could be done better at the County level, I don’t know if I’d be down south relaxing four months out of the year and proving their point.

But who knows, maybe one day the voters or government reform will send Terry on a permanent vacation.

UPDATE: I just got a call from Royalty telling me that he was on vacation but is back.  He says he never goes on vacation for months at a time.

GMoney, I would quit as chief as well. But I would never take the job based on a buddy system in the first place. Its always harder to walk away when you owe someone something.
  • GMoney
According to the Fire Chief in Franklin Township nothing has changed as far as mutual aid goes. Everything is the same as it was yesterday. Seriously if the trustee did do that and I was his fire chief, he'd be looking for a new chief.
  • Honked Off
The most important thing here is the well fare of the community. Put all egos aside especially Mr. Royalty and do what is best. I feel sorry for the FTFD personnel who are in the middle of this, who sadly might get crapped upon.

Get real - anybody that lives in Franklin Township and keeps up on what is going on KNOWS he is a snowbird historically. If you didn't know shame on you!

Here is the Number, Please find out for yourself -

    (317)780-1700 Ext. 13

    ask "Where is my Trustee"
  • jumpsuit trustee
Dang I almost picked duptee chief as my name when I wrote my first comment. Funny.
  • duptee chief
Terry is a bold face liar. Its common knowledge in FT that he spends his winters in Florida. Whats worse is that Terry and his admin refuse to discuss plans for the future of FTFD when consolidation gets killed again. I pray for the firefighters because Terry would lay them all off before he would consider giving up control of his fire department.
  • DooDooBrown
Hey, you can count on this trustee for one thing...he's always back from Florida in time to pull out his suit and testify why Townships do it better!!! It's the one time a year when his baby blue coveralls get to air out.
  • jumpsuit trustee
Nevermind that he isn't there from October to February (which I guarantee you he is not, Daytona is nice for that part of the year isn't it). Where is he the rest of the year? He sure the hell isn't in the office, Trustee Civils, er I mean township administrator Civils, is the one running the show all year. Try calling his office, he's to busy planning his next auction to worry about handing out poor relief. But at least he has a fire department vehicle to drive around in.

Pascal must be referring to ABDUL's update. I think we can all read between the lines. Is it really a vacation or a temporary change of residence? This is an annual thing for him.

In the words of another politician, "It depends on what the definition of the word 'is' is" (substitute the word "is" with vacation)
  • Good Ol Boy
Sorry, but I am confused "pascal", what do you mean by - Gullibility? Please clarify your statement for us slower folks.
  • pascal
It must have been hard to make the update but it does show the gullibility of several posters here.
  • Good Ol Boy
    Easy question...

Where was he this year and ALL of the previous years Oct-Feb??

Give the residents the truth Trustee Royalty!!!
  • Roscoe
Sorry about the mis-statement, just thinking ahead. 2010 is when Royalty will be unemployed. Then he can spend all the time he wants in Florida. Now is the time to prepare a more honest and harder working Trustee.
  • Taxpayer 834512
Cool. Now you gonna tell us what's so enthralling about the budget? I asked earlier about as nicely as I can.
  • Think Again
The ridiculous behavior of one township official can distract us, like shiny objects, from the real mission here:

There are loons in every elected position. This guy, regardless of his extended vacation timeframe, is part of a lazy, outdated system. Period.

We ultimately stopped putting horse tie-ups in front of businesses in this state. When the horseless carriage became more popular.

We need to shed similar wasteful and ridiculous symbols of an earlier, agrarian economy.

    Now.
  • Nora Resident
Seriously? He's been in Florida since October? And getting paid to do it? Fer real?
  • Think Again
Ugh, Roscoe....here's hoping your vote doesn't count the same as mine. THERE ARE NO ELECTIONS THIS YEAR.

Varan and Taxpayer crack me up. Hilarious. Remember when Barney used ot show up at a disturbanc,e and Sheriff Andy would mmosey along and tell the crowd to break up?

"There is nothing to see here. Go on home."

    Another Barney line appropriate here:

    "Gimme my bullet, Andy."
  • redrider
Trustee Royalty does spend most of the winter in Florida. I know it for a fact!!!!
  • varangianguard
Maybe he'll send you a postcard?
  • Roscoe
Now that's what I call a government "close" to the people. Why collect your wages on taxpayers backs only to hang out in Florida? If I recall, this an election year for him. Trustee Royalty, you've got some splainin' to do to this voter.
  • varangianguard
I'm sure that Mr. Royalty has delegated his responsibilities appropriately.
    .
No, really. No, I mean it. No, he would never. No, not him. No, he promised (took an oath, maybe?).
    .
Things are fine. No really, fine. This is not the township trustee you are looking for. Move along.
  • Taxpayer 834512
Setting aside the merit of the issues for a moment, ponder that your public servants believe they know what's good for you better than you do on: township government, immigration reform, property tax caps, lobbyist reform, & gerrymandering (among others).
    .
So far, sugar cream pie is the highlight of the session.
    .
Indeed, the best state assembly money can buy.
