Councilmember Charged

Indianapolis City-County Council Member Doris Minton McNeill has been charged with felony battery and resisting arrest for her alleged altercation with a police officer this past summer.

Special Prosecutor Jim Oliver charged McNeill with D felony battery and three counts of resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.

McNeil was reportedly drunk and belligerent when police were called to her home in District 15.  According to the police affidavit she shoved IMPD Officer Emily Perkins.

She will appear in court sometime next week.

McNeill is part of a string of controversies surrounding Council Democrats.  Councilor Paul Bateman was involved with a local not-for-profit that is under federal investigation.  Former Council President Monroe Gray was found to have violated the Council’s ethics rules.  And Council Democrat attorney Aaron Haith is being investigated by the Indiana Supreme Court for alleged misconduct.

The Democratic caucus on Council will soon have a quorum to meet in jail.

I bet that seat was "tacky" when she was done.

Mighty-One made a very good point. Losing control of bodily functions is what happens when you are drunk....this is a fact going toward "reasonable suspicion" and probable cause that she was DRUNK.

By-The-Way.....she should have been transported in a wagon and not the back seat of a car. Most drunks DO pee in the back of a wagon.....Then it can be hosed out at APC.

    David:

It took three months because a special prosecutor needed to be appointed, approved, and conduct his own independent investigation. If "one of us" battered a police officer we wouldn't have a legally recognized conflict of interest with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office that would require the local prosecutor to recuse himself. Perhaps three months is a tad long for charges to finally end up being filed, but remember, the special prosecutor has his regular duties to attend to (Jim Oliver is the Brown County Prosecutor) in addition to trying to sort this mess out. I am sure he doesn't want this case to end up the same way the Ron Gibson fiasco turned out so he probably personally interviewed all the officers involved, as well as any potential defense witnesses, so that he could have his ducks in a row before dropping a felony charge on the honorable Ms. Minton. I know Jim Oliver and he is a straight shooter that does things the right way. I would prefer he take his time and get it right as opposed to shooting first and asking questions later.

Monroe Gray investigation? Because no one from the public showed up at any of the hearings. As far as Doris goes, I am sure that if one of us got arrested for battery on a police officer, it would not have taken three months for us to be charged. I look for the democrats on the CCC to have no comment.

What is taking so long on the Monroe Gray investigation?

Perhaps the Democrats from Indy can join the Democrat Detroit mayor in the Federal prison system.

Mighty One...I am as appalled as anyone that a fellow Democrat did these things, and is now charged. I hope she's drummed off the council if she's found guilty.

But the backseat thing, that was just mean. Tacky, too. What did it add to the conversation, except pettiness?

Taking joy in someone else's misdeeds, is a little perverted.

"Haith defend her defend her under the new rules, can he?"

Meant to say, Haith can't defend her under the new rules, can he?
  • IndyErnie
Hopefully this won't get sweep under the carpet like the charges against Gibson.
Haith defend her defend her under the new rules, can he?
  • The MIGHTY One
She peed on herself in the backseat of the squad car. Can you say L-O-S-E-R?

The fact that 12 democrats (no republicans) voted against a balanced budget along partisan lines shows just how absurd these investigated members appear to the public, and you are right..they don't care. To vote no because some of the non essential Arts funding was shaved in favor of increased safety reflects how they really disrespectful of Hoosiers they become. How sad. If they can't control their own lives, how can they govern their civic responsibilities? It's all on tape. pass the popcorn for scariest movie of the summer.

Glad to see that FINALLY legal action will happen.
Qoute from "Bart Lies".......She is not a "Good Minton, she is a Bad Minton".

Jo Ann Sanders is a waste of my time.....makes council meetings go longer than needed.

What ever happened to the Monroe Gray investigation. Is the CCC ever going to deal with it? And. Jo Ann Sanders. when are you going to quit sticking up for these democrat members who not only make the council look bad they make the great City of Indianapolis look bad.
If very tired of your bull at council meetings.

They are not alone in being outside the law. However, it is disheartening that there are so many of the same party at the same time within a single community ccc. But alas, people at the end of the day don't seem to care. So, no call for accountability. Of course, the voters did register their frustration. If there had been accountability and leadership within the democrat party, we would have a different mayor today, and quite likely a democrat led ccc.
