ARE SPIN-OFFS EVER AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINALS?
Whenever someone asks me about my personal politics I tell them the best way to describe me is a socially-progressive capitalist pig. I don’t care what people do as long as they do it to themselves and don’t cost me money in the process. So with that attitude, the Clinton’s didn’t bother me the first time around. They were like a TV show.
The first couple seasons were spent figuring out the formula, seasons 4-6 were pretty good. Season 7 was the impeachment and jumping the shark and by season 8 it was time for it to come to an end.
When I see Hillary Clinton running for President all I can think of is a sequel to a television show. Sometimes you get a Frasier, other times you get a What’s Happening Now.
So here’s the question, if Hillary gets elected President, what television sequel would be the best way to describe her administration?
I’ll start. The Colby’s.

My greatest concern is that another Clinton Presidency give Rush Limbaugh and Greg Garrison more reason to spew hatred among the people. Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck/Rose/Garrison and the choir of complainers are the only reason I might not vote for John McCain. Every day I listen to Greg Garrison and sometimes Rush and think who appointed these men to think they are the only idea ont he block?

MD, could you give an example of “hate”? (This is a reason that I am suspicious of “hate crimes” legislation)
March 26th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Oh, and on subject. How about “Joanie Loves Chachi”? I’m not sure who Chachi would be in this scenario.
.
Another suggestion: “Joey”.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Why, The Waltons of course. Huh? What? Oh.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:40 am
The answer is easy: The Brady Brides
It was about eight years after the original ended, and it was doomed from the start.

From B.J. & the Bear (original) to The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo (spin-off).
Or how about The Man from U.N.C.L.E. to The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.?
Or The Six Million Dollar Man to The Bionic Woman?
Or Who’s the Boss to Living Dolls?

The “Dukes of Hazard” spun off the stinker “Enos” where he went off to the big city and failed! Sounds like the Clintons.
Oh MD, just because the conservative talk radio people don’t spew forth the left leaning main stream media’s message it is hate speech?? You related to Nancy Pelosi? Support her fairness in media (as long as it is the conservatives who have to talk fair) doctrine she is preaching?
March 26th, 2008 at 9:30 am
Nancy is one of the worse things that the Democratic Party could have going for it. Hate means on the air stating that all Democrats are Marxist Socialists, all Democrats hate America, all Democrats want the enemy to win, all Democrats are corrupt, etc. etc. etc. After Barack’s empassioned speech on race in America last week I tuned into Rush, who was spewing forth every conceivable interpretation other than the plain and simple interpretation. Garrison is just as bad. When asked about if Iraq was such a threat why didn’t Congress declare a State of War instead of an authorizing Resolution he changes to “do you think Sadaam was a nice man?” Well no, but our Constitution says a President needs a Declaration of War from Congress. If this was so important a terrorism fight, why not get that?

Maude
Maude is a half-hour American television sitcom that was originally broadcast on the CBS network from September 12, 1972 until April 22, 1978.
Maude starred Beatrice Arthur as Maude Findlay, a middle-aged, politically liberal, married woman living in suburban Tuckahoe, Westchester County, New York, who embraced the tenets of women’s liberation, always voted for Democratic Party candidates, strongly supported legal abortion, and advocated, albeit often clumsily, for civil rights and racial and gender equality.
The program was a spin-off of All in the Family, in which Beatrice Arthur portrayed the title role of Maude, Edith Bunker’s cousin.

MD, “hate” is not labeling someone. Even if it is not true. Also–you are referring to Garrison here–he does NOT call ALL Democrats Marxist Socialists. He is calling the Democrat candidates for President Marxist-Socialists. I happen to think he is wrong. They are closer to Totalitarian Socialists, but it is splitting hairs.
.
Interpretations are not “hate”. I’d give you my interpretation of Barack’s speech–and it would be plain and simple–but you would say that I hate something.
.
Your examples state why you dislike Garrison and Rush, not why what they say is “hate”. Why not just say that you don’t like their positions or the way that they assert their positions?
March 26th, 2008 at 10:18 am
One other thing: I can’t speak for anyone other than Rush and Garrison as I don’t listen to the others that you mention–but both of those two are very careful to reiterate that when they criticize Democrat elected officials that they are not talking about ALL Democrats. They both believe that the leadership of the Democrat Party is out of line with the rank and file Democrats. Some Democrat elected officials are fine, but they line up behind their leadership (Bayh is a perfect example of this).
.
This happens to be true of Republicans as well, but the Democrat leadership is aiming for the overwhelmingly power of the Federal Government.

I was thinking that Hillary reminded me more of LaWanda Page reprising her role as Aunt Ester in the very-short-lived Sanford & Son sequel called “Sanford Arms”:

“Watch it, sucka…”

“Threes Company” to the short lived Don Knott’s spin off the “Ropers”.
You fill in the blanks who was the third person in Bill’s first season.

Is Bill supposed to be Jack or Roper?

“Law & Order” - which is what I hope she returns to the country. Ya know, like following the Constitution?

I’ll take you one step further.
“Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” - b/c I (and I’m guessing most of the country) feel like a victim after 8 years of W…

Joel, you must listen to different version of the same show, I hear them both generalize the term Democrats with marxist-socialist, love the enemy, etc. every day. Of course you indicate I dont agree with their positions because you do. I honestly agree with many political positions taken by Garrison, then he goes off on some rant about what i have mentioned here. Rush just hates anyone that is not what his definition of conservative is… I have never seen a spectrum of politics as mean and hateful as the one we live in today. If you disagree, this is America and that is your right.
March 26th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
MD, you are right that it is your right to disagree. But part of that right to disagree means that you have a right to form an opinion about where other people stand. That is what Rush et al do all of the time. Once again, that doesn’t make it “hate”.
.
By the way, why would identifying someone as “Marxist-Socialist” be hateful anyway? It is simply trying to match someone’s policy positions to the underlying philosophical underpinnings. That term is not like the way people use the term “Fascist” or “Nazi” as name calling.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Here’s an idea…..if you don’t like what they say CHANGE THE DAMN STATION!! It is Greg’s and Rush’s show! They are entertainers, not news media. They are where and when they are because people listen and they get ratings.
Truth, The spin off of “Three’s Company” did not have Don Knotts in it. It was Norman Fell.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Joel I give up on you, you are molded in their image and you can’t see the trees for the forest. That is exactly what I am getting to the point of. Democrats are not Marxist or Socialists. You think so because you are endocrtinated much like Hitlers Storm Troopers. You and I will never agree and I am stopping here. You can carry this on for others to read if you like, but this is my last word on it.

The closest I can come to compare a Hillary Presidency with a television program is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Both are examples of poorly developed fiction - up there with the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
You’re talking about comparing a fiction to fiction. Hillary isn’t going to win the nomination, much less the presidency…so it’s all fiction.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Something like West Wing meets the Beverly Hillbillies. Based on great Oliphant political cartoon years ago where Hillary’s beating Bill over the head (”You big dummy!”) with her purse for some latest trashy episode that’s all over the papers, while they’re sitting at a table that looks to be in a decrepit farmhouse or barn, with a pig in the corner of the room with a bale of hay.
And to think I long for this compared to what we’ve had for nearly eight years.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:15 am
MD, my point is not whether or not Rush and Garrison are correct. My point is that it is not “hate”. People accuse them and many others of spewing “hate”, but what they really mean is that they disagree with them–a lot–to the point of emotional disagreement.
.
Your answer on this is a perfect example. I think that the Democratic leadership are leading us toward a socialistic government and so you say that I am a brainwashed Nazi. Beautiful. You say that we need to be able to disagree, but when we do YOU label me a Nazi–not because of my positions, but to dismiss me and my opinion.
