BUYER TO LUGAR; “SHUT UP ABOUT IRAQ!”

Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer when it comes to Iraq, Dick Lugar needs to close his mouth and listen before he speaks.

Buyer said Lugar, and fellow Senators John Warner (R-Virginia) and Carl Levin (D-Michigan), are jumping the gun with their criticisms of the war in Iraq.

The three Senators have argued that the current Iraq strategy was not working and have called for a political solution to solve the nation’s problems. They also say the Iraqi government needs to take stronger steps to stabilize the country.

In an interview prior to his speech at last weekend’s Midwest Republican Leadership Conference, Buyer said the Senators to need wait for an anticipated report from General David Petraeus to Congress before commenting.

“The senators need to be patient and close their mouths and listen before they speak out about Iraq,” he said. “They need to stop trying to be generals on the ground. Your job is to listen to the generals.”

Lugar is in the former Soviet Union with former U.S. Senator San Nunn marking the 15th anniversary of the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program that was designed to reduce and secure the nation’s nuclear arsenal.

let’s face it. Lugar is a RINO in the mold of Chuck Hagel. He voted for amnesty for illegal aliens, and even against amendments that would have prohibited terrorists and gang members from receiving the same amnesty. He will never receive this conservative’s vote again.

Buyer walks around acting like he knows what the hell he’s talking about, the truth is he was a lawyer in the army which means he hung around the chow hall praying he never saw the front line. Hell now that I think about it the ONLY war he’s been in never had a front line.

RINO, DINO. I agree with Abdul. Since when was there a litmus test for “true” partisan? If this keeps you from voting from anyone in particular, let your political party stagnate in the minority for the long term.

Ha, maybe Steve “Rambo” Buyer learned a lesson in 2003. You’ll recall that Buyer made a fool of himself by taking a leave of absence from Congress with great fanfare. Buyer said that he was being mobilized with the Army to participate in the invasion of Iraq. Buyer sat at home for about two weeks before sheepishly returning to Congress. It turns out, the Army never had plans to mobilize Buyer. Apparently they didn’t need Steve’s quill and ink bottle for the war.

Clearly, you have never been in the military. I was in combat arms for over 20 years and would never disparage the work of ANY of the soldiers whose job it was to support me. At least he had the guts to wear the uniform.

I’ve never really liked Lugar anyway. It may sound petty but when someone suggested that we rename 465 the Letterman Expressway (and Letterman even offered to pay for all the signs), within a week it was suddenly going to be the ‘Lugar Expressway.’ Dunno why, just rubbed me the wrong way.

That, and he lobbied against an I-69 extension plan because it was going to run through part of his farmland. And he even had the nerve to mention that was the reason why.

varangianguard – it’s not a critique that he’s not a “true” partisan, as you put it. After all, the amnesty bill was largely Republican President Bush’s idea as I’m sure you recall. And yes, refusal to believe that we are a Sovereign Nation and to enforce the laws that make it so is a litmus test for myself and for many conservatives, and rightly so. Once the sovereignty goes, we can kiss our freedoms goodbye.

I was just generically ranting more than anything else. I don’t like the snobby dismissals that the appellation of DINO/RINO implies. Hopefully, we’re all Americans and trying to “grade” one’s patriotism, commitment to democratic ideals, economic preferences or anything else smacks of an elitist and exclusivist autocracy.

  9. Jerry

I say it’s about time someone stepped up to Lugar and told him what most of his voters probably agree with.

  10. WCC

varangianguard – that’s right, I’m making judgments: right and wrong. Lugar is wrong on amnesty. Who’s trying to grade patriotism? Where did I say anything about that – I judging his credentials/ track record as someone I will not choose to vote for anymore. You’re arguing against things unsaid. Although, i’ve got nothing against grading patriotism here and there (: Eg. Harry Reid (D-), Tom Tancredo (A)

  11. varangianguard

Well WCC, unless you plan to vote Libertarian (if any) or Democratic, that would narrow your choices. It’s the primary where a party needs to argue about replacements, not the election.

Sorry. I wasn’t to trying to impose upon your PoV directly. More generic ranting.

Also remember. It’s my judgement or your judgement we’re talking about here. Not right or wrong. Like law and history (etc), it is an interpretation. You think Senator Lugar is wrong about immigration amnesty, he doesn’t agree. Nothing wrong with that, or with your disagreeing or not voting for him.

I just wish people wouldn’t say RINO, or DINO in such a cavalier fashion. It’s not like we’re traitors to “the cause”, or something.

  12. observer

Senator Lugar has sold himself out in pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize and Democratic approval. He lost my vote when he went with illegal immigration.

  13. varangianguard

Well, it wouldn’t be the first time a very senior US Senator from Indiana was voted out for not paying enough attention to his constituency. Vance Hartke ring any bells?

  14. Shorebreak

How could Lugar win the Peace prize by pulling out of Iraq? He’d only win it if a pullout resulted in a massive slaughter that justified direct UN involvement. Otherwise, no Peace prize.

Lugar is preparing for the future per CFR plans that have been laid out and in progress for decades – which is an orchestrated confrontation between east and west, using the Middle East as it’s stage. It will be used as the third and final justification to assemble a world political/economic body under one single roof.

Lugar is playing the divide and conquer role. The nation has been divided – now it’s time to divide the parties.

Off the subject. Saturday at 11:00 is the Labor Day parade starting at North and Penn.
Fart, Bling, and the queen of the ghetto mafia old lady Carson are the Masters of cerimonie’s. Bring your protest signs and your bart lies signs and boo the bastards when they pass you on the parade route.

What would have Melina Kennedy done with the Chappell incident? Remember, the FOP and Indyundercover both supported Brizzi and portrayed Melina as the Devil.

    Indy U and the FOP,

I am dissappointed in the FOP and you. The more I think about it the more I grow angry. Why?? You and the FOP both supported Carl Brizzi for prosecutor. By all accounts, your website portrayed Melina Kennedy as the anti-Christ. Additionally, the FOP supported Brizzi as well. I feel betrayed by both of you. Now, Brizzi is targeting one of our own, Adam Chappell. Chap had nothing to hide. The manner in which Brizzi has gone about this witch hunt is what folks should be angry over. Brizzi leaked evidence, the videotape, to the media. Will I listen to this Indyundercover and the FOP again? Yes… And do just the opposite.

Lugar lost me completely on the immigration vote. I am done with him. I would agree with Buyer. Also, I am sure Lugar has no problem with Putin rebuilidng the Soviet threat.

  18. NDNBill

Lugar made his initial comment that the ‘Surge’ couldn’t work, 6 days after the last 2 “Surge” Brigades arrived in Irag and had not yet even been deployed. Shameful.

Lugar voted for the “Comprehensive” Immigration Reform ‘legislation’ before a copy of the bill was even available to be ‘read’ (per Sen. Harry Reid), and that bill would have added a minimun of $2 Trillion to the TaxPayers Debt over the next 10 years.

Lugar’s 640 acre farm needs some attention from I.C.E. I kid you not.

Lugar is no ‘statesman’, he’s a a political opportunist who obviously thinks “WE” are imbeciles.

Lugar would RESIGN if he had any concept of personal honor, but he doesn’t, forcing us to Recall this Traitor…. Door to Door Petition underway.

  19. Wilson46201

Somehow the comments here remind me of the Birchers in the 1950s who wanted to impeach President Eisenhower for being a Communist agent…

Buyer’s wrong. Lugar should talk as much as possible so that people will know where he stands. And Buyer may be a “Rino”, whatever that really means, but the truth is that Buyer, just like Jim Jontz before him, came into office as a nice young man and has ended up about as far from the values and interests of Indiana citizens as Ted Kennedy. He’s lost it. Trying to silence anybody who disagrees with him is plain wrong, and a symptom of a much bigger character problem.

  21. anonymous

The story goes that when Lugar was elected mayor back in the day, when he appointed the Chief of Police he had the guy sign his appointment and his resignation papers at the same time, saying “This way when I’m done with you all I have to do is give you a phone call.”

  22. anonymous

Buyer needs to go bye-bye anyway. While I may disagree with Lugar on many things, Buyer is, in my opinion, arrogant … or at least key members of his staff represent him in such a way (Houston).

Of course, they all can’t be Mike Pence (who still doesn’t even rate on the Ron Paul scale but is better than most).
