Peterson to Hire More Cops?
Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson is holding a news conference tomorrow to make a major announcement regarding the future of crime fighting and financial stability in Indianapolis.
If you will allow me to engage in some freely admitted speculation, I would not be surprised if the Mayor announces he’s going to take that some of the public safety tax money and channel it into more cops on the street. I say this because the Mayor has already said the $85 million dollars will go for pension relief, courts and prosecutors and crime prevention programs. So there would be no real reason to hold a news conference unless he was making a substantive change. And the only real change which would matter would be for the Mayor to announce he was hiring more police. A spokeswoman for the Mayor would neither confirm nor deny he was going to try to hire more police officers.
I can’t say this surprises me with taxpayer revolt on the horizon in Marion County. What better way to sell a tax increase than to say it is for public safety and the hiring of actual live police officers? However, these are also the same people who said we were not short police officers, even though internal documents revealed a shortage of about 130 cops.
Tomorrow will tell the full story, and I’ll definitely be listening.

Abdul…please be sure to give us as much advance notice of where/when the Mayor’s news conference will be held tomorrow so the public can attend.

Dude,
Bart Petersons…comments tomorrow (or whenever he states) will be a JOKE. He has to do whatever he has to, to “SAVE THE UNION”…..All of this should of been announced at the time tax increases were even proposed. Now since the community is in an uproar he wants to “SAVE HIS BACON”….dude he just lost a vote….GO REPUBLICIANS!

Folks, Mike O’Connor is over his head in trying to run the County Democrat Party and manage Bart Peterson reelection campaign. Maybe he should have stayed on the mayor’s staff. You can tell by the TV ads that neither one of them are living in the real world. Lies and more lies on television.
They think we are stupid and are asleep while they rob the city blind.

“200 more officers and no new taxes!” Gee that line sounds familiar. Instead we have a 200 officer shortage and 13 tax increases (not counting the major one that hits Friday).

Bart’s been making these types of announcements since the time he came into office and NEVER has he ever followed up. It’s all well crafted politics with absolutely no substance. Even the playbook O’Conner is using is textbook baffle them with BS. Unfortunately, voters fall for the gimmick over and over and over.
You don’ HAVE to vote for Bart come November.

Abdul, if you’re correct, I would assume that this announcement isn’t in response to the public’s reaction to taxes. My guess is that this has been the plan all along.
Knowing that the public would be up in arms over taxes, Bart waited until now to announce his plans. If true, and Bart was waiting for this moment for the sake of political capital, I have to wonder how many lives it has cost.

I predict peterson will somehow funnel off 40 million of this 200 million to cover cost runs on jim ursay’s toy stadium. im sure he will give the simon prothers a few million while he is at it.
………………..BART LIES………………

Talk to Your Man Mitch about cost over-runs on that new stadium. He snatched the construction from the City so he could give out juicy contracts to his GOP buddies…

For the last time, the stadium funding has NOT diverted dime one from Public Safety. Unless you’re prepared to show me where in the budget money was removed from the Public Safety budget and redirected to the Convention Center/Stadium project. I don’t like the way Bart handled Public Safety logistics and budgets lately, and his newest plan strikes me as disingenuous after all the promised savings from the consolidation that he was so hopped up for. However, the mantra of Stadium=More murders, poverty, etc. is already getting tiresome and frankly has no basis in reality.

Nice revisionist history there, Wilson. The reason the state took control of the stadium funding is because Bart’s idea of funding it with pull-tabs was dead even before he went to the legislature to huffily demand they rubberstamp the plan he cut in secret with Irsay without outside consultation. Barty Bart failed to take into consideration not only those opposed to the expansion of gambling for personal or moral reasons, he completely neglected to consider the objections of gaming interests who were reluctant to saturate an already soft gaming market with slot machines in Indianapolis. When faced with the obstacle that he should have anticipated to begin with, Barty Bart threw up his hands and began pouting. Without a plan B, it was up to the State to clean up the mess that Bart needlessly started (made even worse considering the deal Barty Bart signed in secret with the NCAA promising facilities upgrades in exchange for guaranteed Final Fours every five years). Simply feigning interest in the concerns of others might have kept the deal in Indy’s control. But Barty Bart doesn’t know how to include others when he plans and schemes. Only Barty Bart knows what’s best. While similarities to Daniels can be detected, Barty Bart is becoming more like Steve Goldsmith each passing month. Both men are unlikable technocrats who are physiologically unable to work with the other party, and unwilling to adjust their plans whenever an obstacle arises.
I’m in favor of the stadium, but Peterson deserves all the scorn that is coming to him with this tax increase. Wilson, this isn’t Mitch’s fault. Bart Peterson’s problems have exactly one cause, Bart Peterson. If you put down the Mayor’s water pail once in a while, you’d be able to see this.

As the mayoral campaign heats up for November, Wilson should get his own website. Attacking other people on these blogs for thier points of views is sickening.
It is obvious to everyone here that he is a pawn for the democrat party and all of his opinions will support the democrats lying, cheating and robbing the taxpayers in the city and the state.
Give us a break will you, get your own blog Wilson then we will see if you can write complete articles with substance.

Pete - don’t expect Wilson to respond to anything with substance. He does drive-by’s, that’s all.
