Pea Shake, Rattle and Roll

Let me admit to stealing that title from one of the local bloggers. Police raided a local “pea shake” house on the west side this past weekend. Everyone was paying attention to the Super Bowl so there was no press about it. However, according to the police report, the incident occurred in the 1400 Block of West Roche.

Police were responding to a disturbance and neighbors complaints. While responding, the cops saw in plain view gambling paraphernalia, including ticket times, winning numbers, etc. The officers asked if they could come in and did. Also according to the report, saw numerous illegal gaming items. The house had apparently been in operation for two years.

While making arrests and conducting investigations, State Senator Glen Howard came to the scene. Howard said, “They don’t hurt nobody, it’s just a pea shake. I know it’s illegal, but they don’t hurt nobody,” according to the report.

Police did make arrests and confiscated more than $5,000. In addition, there was an “elaborate video security” system there but it is unclear whether there were any tapes taken.

If there were tapes, it will be interesting to see who was on them. This could be the start of something big.

Of course it didn’t get any press and it wasn’t just because it was the Super Bowl. Democrats like the illustrious Glenn Howard has his fingers in these places and Bart will NEVER say a word.

Hello Indianapolis!!! This is who is running this town. Is this really the leadership you want? Not me!

  2. 46205 Resident

I want to know why our Mayor has remained SILENT about this! I also demand to know why our mayor has said nothing about the Monroe Gray corruption story that ran on the front page of the Indy Star the Sunday before the Superbowl!

“They don’t hurt nobody, it’s just a pea shake. I know it’s illegal, but they don’t hurt nobody,”

Prostitution and “massage parlors” are illegal too and the LEO’s are actually taking action against them.

  4. Russ

Mayor McCheese is too busy basking in the Colts’ Super Bowl glory to tackle the real issues of the city. In fact, I think he’s petitioning the NFL right now to have a Super Bowl for the Colts every two weeks!

  5. Pay Attention!

For all you geniuses wanting to pile on the Mayor for lack of enforcement on pea shakes…

I’ve heard him publicly state, three times, over the last three years that he would not order IPD off the pea shake situation. Complaints are investigated, he said.

He re-stated that this morning, although it was curious he had to; he no longer controls the police force, as of 1-1-07. And if you believe everything you read on IndyUndercover (don’t…it’s not even one-third accurate), the police hate him anyway and would likely do the exact opposite of anything he “suggested” or “ordered.”

If you’re mad about pea shakes, and I’d be mad too if one existed in my neighborhood, your complaint, with some sort of probable cause, needs to be turned over to our illlustrious prosecutor. Who was also in Fla. star-gazing.

There’s plenty to dog out the mayor, regarding multiple issues…pea shakes just is not one of them.

  6. Oh boy

FYI A currently suspended IMPD officer who has 2 convictions for DWI will be back on the street next timecard starting 2/24/07. You heard it here first. Boy nice to see the newly merged IMPD has high values/standards for officers. Cant wait till the media gets ahold of this one.

    Pay Attention

Don’t defend Mayor Peterson. The public is not as stupid as you Democrats think. The Super Bowl is over until next year. All of the partying has ended. Time to move on to the real issues plaguing our city.

Like the crime rate. Mayor Peterson remains responsible for the police department. He hurriedly pushed through the consolidation plan and now he does not want to assume the responsibility for its shortcomings. No vision for the city except sporting events and hotels for the wealthy. Our neighborhoods are in trouble and the Mayor doesn’t seem to have a clue what to do. Corrupt city-county councillors in his own political party, no comment from him. What kind of deal has he cut with the Ghetto Mafia? He needs the black vote to get reelected.

The mayor and his city-county council needs to expedite negotiations with the police for their pay raises and benefit package. If he can initiate a $25 Million fund raising effort for a Super Bowl game in 2011, surely he can move as quickly on issues concerning the average citizen in this city.

This city administration seems to find the funds for every project for the rich and famous while the rest of us pay the bill. his department of metropolitan development needs to be investigated also. How much debt will Bart Peterson leave this city in after he is no longer mayor?

  8. MCPDInsider

The raid on peashake houses is a one-time renegade act. It will not happen again by the MCPD. Leadership is set to make an example of the officers involved in the very near future – it will be a setup. The Mayor and Sheriff will not let that happen again, they cannot afford to anger the black leadership and inturn lose the black vote with or without a credible GOP candidate for Mayor…There is much too much money involved.
