Lawrence Lawsuit
I was going to write about this in the morning, but the information fell in my lap tonight, so here it is. A complaint is being filed Wednesday with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Lawrence Mayor Deborah Cantwell. The complaint, being filed on behalf of four black officers, alleges Cantwell created a hostile work environment. They claim she used the “n-word” in describing one officer and other Blacks in Lawrence. They also claimed officers were not promoted because of their race and some were demoted. More details will follow tomorrow.

I know the mayor pretty well. I also know her detractors well (Ds are jealous she had the guts to run when no one thought she would win; Rs are just plain mad). This is a setup. She doesn’t have a racist bone in her body. The messes that woman encountered when she went into office, are legendary. She’s stumbled sometimes, but she never wavered in trying her hardest. With change comes reluctant hangers-on, from both parties.
The “n” word? Ridiculous. But, as these lawsuits go, it might have been filed at just the right time to muddy the primary election waters. Any idiot with a lawyer and a few hundred dollars can file a lawsuit. And it doesn’t get any more looney and political than Lawrence.

Umm…filed by David Brooks, Schneider’s campaign manager, in an election year.
