Teachers vs. Tony

It is no big secret that the Indiana State Teachers Association and their members launched a successful social media campaign to defeat Republican Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett.  I’ve come across some of their correspondence and decided to reprint one e-mail in particular.   Frankly, I think the Hitler video is a little over the top.

Subject: New and Notes…

Hey all!

How ’bout that election?  It turns out maybe Indiana teachers have a little spunk after all!  We’ve been need another science teacher at the high school for a while – now we know one who’ll need a job! :-)
A couple of things…
Next Wednesday evening (November 14th) at 7:00 is when the Area Plan Commission conducts a public hearing on Via’s rezoning request.  I would like to encourage all SCSD2 employees to attend the meeting and wear their school spirit shirts.  Plan Commission meetings are usually held at the courthouse, but Mr. Rose has asked to have it moved to SHS…I will keep you posted.  In the meantime, let’s rally the troops!
When you have a couple minutes take a look at this video if you need a good laugh!  I won’t reveal the creator but it’s good to see some of our professional development go to good use!
Still smiling from Tuesday,

You’ve got a lot to learn about Internet memes, Abdul.

  • stAllio!

let’s be kind and help abdul out here: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/downfall-hitler-reacts

  • pascal

“The largest single professional group in the Nazi party, the elementary school teachers…..” some things and some tactics don’t alter much.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AttyAbdul Abdul-Hakim Shabazz

All the public sees is Hitler and Tony Bennett’s name. The rest doesn’t matter.

  • Tyrone

I made a copy of your comment because it shows that you didn’t care about the issue, the real purpose of the video, or about even starting a real debate. You just want the words Bennett-Hitler out there as much as possible to push your own agenda. At least we have proof of your intentions, thank you.

  • Tyrone

This statement is asinine at best, horrible condescending at worst.

  • Ramon

First, it was not just teachers but principals and school boards. Most in education saw that Bennet was taking us somewhere that was not a good place. Secondly, I don’t remember your posting your outrage when the Tea Party had sgns with Obama in a Hitler style moustache or an African witch doctor or with signs with hate filled racist slogans. For example, Don’t Re-Nig in 2010 or Put the white back in the White House. Hateful comments are always distateful. When you only point out one that was directed at your candidate and after he lost, makes you look like a sore loser. P.S. I am a teacher and I voted for Ritz but I am disgusted by this video.

  • pascal

It is, tyrone, a historical fact. You may express an opinion about the fact but the fact does not alter in the least.

  • Tyrone

Not referring to the statement…referring to you linking that fact to the present situation. So, maybe your Nazi fact is a fact, but saying that the Indiana school teachers use the same tactics as the Nazis. Seriously? Wow.

  • http://www.facebook.com/AttyAbdul Abdul-Hakim Shabazz

    Too late. It’s out there.

  • CircleCityScribe

Liberals removed the video as soon as it was posted here.
Tony Bennett improved Education in this state like no other! He should receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work.

  • pascal

“This statement…” Tyrone, that you were not referring to?

  • Sockratease

? “This video has been removed by the user.”

  • Ramon

The only person spreading it around now is Abdul. I think his disdain for public schools and public school teachers has affected his judgement here.

  • CircleCityScribe

    …just a thought here, Ramon:

Perhaps it is his disdain for proven incompetence and cronyism that you referred to. In IPS whose family got promotions? pay increases? Who got a job and retained it thanks to, well, someone with an outrageous hair-do???

I have agreed with Abdul’s stand on the IPS problems. He has pointed out the problems with IPS clearly and with facts.
-What do you have Ramon? -A race card again?

  • Ramon

I agree that al of those things have been happening under current leadership and the school board sat idly by bobbing their heads YES to anything he wanted. He will now have a school board that will examine items carefully and approve or disapprove on the merits of each. That will include appointments of administrative personnel. That is ot racist. Abdul has no clue other than he wants the district privatized.

  • CircleCityScribe

Ramon’s allegation that Abdul “has no clue” is right out of thin air with no factual basis! It’s common for Liberals to blow out whims and throw in the race card with no factual basis, but only as a ploy to invoke strong emotions.

The fact is: Abdul has documented facts that support what he writes on the problems with IPS.

Ramon alleges Abdul wants the district privatized. I don’t recall that position ever stated by our blogmaster. I do recall mention that with the current state of IPS, privatization may improve the schools. I believe that the problems with IPS require leadership change.

I said it above, Ramon has not responded, so I repeat it for all readers see that Ramon’s rant is truly without merit:
What facts do you have Ramon to support your allegations?

  • Ramon

Your inability to comprehend is amazing. I posted to you that I agree with Abdul that most of the problems that he mentioned in IPS do exist.. I never mentioned race. You brought up the race card twice. Are YOU having a race issue??

  • Luke

This was distributed via the teacher’s work email? This is a misuse of school property.

    >aw that Bennet was taking us somewhere that was not a good place

Yes…a place of accountability for teachers but I can see how rubber stampers who move children from one grade to the next and think nothing of it have to fear. In any other line of work, merit raises are a result of production. Generate good product and you get a raise. Generate some “janky” product, you lose. I like Bennet because he saw that.

  • AWB

    >We’ve been need another science teacher at the high school for a while

Methinks “Jason” been need lessons in sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Jason is probably an English teacher at some school rubber stamping students left and right. Today he’s more at ease knowing his pay won’t be influenced by his product which happens to be an educated child.
