What is the Sherriff’s Spending Money On?

Want some interesting reading? Here is the January-June 2012 Commissary report for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.   Look at what they spend money on. You would think that with having to fork over $11 million for inmate health care that some of the money collected from the inmates at the Commissary would be used to take care of that instead of paying for Direct TV, gloves for the honor guard and luncheons. Happy reading!

That’s a lot of money at Kopetsky’s car wash, don’t they get the coupons that come in every sunday paper? Dude, it’s like $15 to get the full detailing.

…something smelly about those payouts! I noticed a few Democrats make out quite well. Why are they paying Robert Turner and Frank Anderson?

There is a statute that details what commissary money can be spent on. It gives a list of items, some specific, some general. Sheriff Frank Anderson used to completely ignore that law. I haven’t checked this list against the law. My impresson of Sheriff Layton, otherwise, has been a lot more favorable than Sheriff Anderson. Sheriff Layton is actually exercising oversight over the privatized jails which is something Anderson never did.

While Constitutionally provided, the perks of this office require structural review (beyond “summer study”); which appear to be perversely aligned or against the interests of the people.
