Just saw this over on Red State. I think Mourdock is in some trouble and trying to run out the clock on this primary before anything else comes out...

I know the state of Indiana is not a huge hotbed of racial
tension, but, as an individual of color, racial equality is an issue that
matters to me. I am not an ideologue, and would consider myself a moderate. The
primary between the Republicans has largely been uninteresting to me. Why
should I care about two old white guys arguing? That all changed when Mr.
Mourdock wore a tie sporting the “stars and bars” of the old, racist south.

At first, I shrugged it off as a coincidence. I really get
annoyed when people play the race card right off the bat. Then I began asking around to other people I
know, both white and black. It seems Mr. Mourdock does not have a good record
of hiring minorities during his time in office – one acquaintance actually used
the word “abysmal”. A few more questions turned up that he spends a lot of time
at libertarian conventions where state’s rights, nullification and disunion are
advocated…

I write this with as much objectivity as possible, but I
feel like there is more to the story on Mr. Mourdock. I won’t judge a man for
one slip up, but when the evidence starts coming together I can’t ignore it.
Unless he makes some big changes, the black community needs to be wary of Mr.
Mourdock, and his ties.

I'll type this as slowly as possible. You're an a-hole and the worst prognosticator on here. By the way, your boy Barry destroyed the word 'HOPE'. It no longer has any meaning.

BRAC was nothing but our elected representatives taking the sissy-way out.

I lived that life for 2 decades, and got to see those those errors mad made 1st hand.

Every time a 'Blue Ribbon Panel' is appointed for something involving National Defense it's Congress ducking it's responsibilities.

As I'm sure youj know, military bases are closed after a thorough non-partisan review. Congress can overturn the closures recommended by the nonpartisan Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), but that almost never happens. The proces sinsulates MCs from having to explain to their constituents, why a certain base was closed.

It's been that way for over 15 years. It works. Except it's going too slowly.

And Sen. Levin is chairman of the Committee. That's hjoe it works.

Slinging a wrench on a project is admirable. It hardly qualifies anyone to be objective.

Our military cannot continue to arm and staff itself under Cold War priorities. Unless we stop spending money on almost everything else. Ask SECDEF Gates, who tried valiantly to reform the procurement process.

Congress has 'forced' items on DoD for decades... why? Because it creates/keeps jobs in that home district. When I clicked your link & saw Carl Levin's name I laughed out loud.... I Senator Levin (D-MI) had been more supportive of the B-1B program the first base to receive that aircraft would have been Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda Michigan. But alas, Sen Sam Tower's (R-TX) home state of Texas got it (and it's billions) at Dyess AFB, near Abilene.

I say the above as I was part of that initial maintenance cadre' that maintained the B-ONE, and brought it to full operational capability for it's alert role.

Additionally, K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI. was closed over Minot AFB, ND, even though K.I. had superior facilities, and room to grow.... (many feel the BRAC was further punishing Levin), and prior to that, Kincheloe AFB was closed in Michigan.

That's 3 (three!) heavy-hitting SAC bases that were among the best in facilities, cost per flying hour, and had low environmental impact on the surrounding land/air, yet huge impact on local economies.

Now, what would you like to know about the F-117A & COBRA EYE/OAMP (SDI) programs and their spending, and 'forced' spending? I swung wrenches on both of those.

Recommended reading; 'Wild Blue Yonder, Money, Politics and the B-1 Bomber', by Nick Kotz. Princeton University Press. (Nick nails it).

If you prefer video info-tainment, 'The Pentagon Wars' with Kelsey Grammer & Cary Ewles or 'Article 99' with Keefer Sutherland & Ray Liota are closer to reality than Congress would have you believe.

Read the synopsis here:http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s1867 Please specify what you don't like. It looks pretty good to me. Passed 93-7. It begins to make much-needed Pentagon Procurement changes. Not enough cuts there, but it's a start.

BudgetTrak on defense systems the Pentagon DOES NOT want, but Congress forces on them: FY 2012: #16.5 billion. With a "B".
