Morris: “99% of Girl Scouts AreExcellent”

An Indiana House Lawmaker who accused the Girl Scouts of promoting homosexuality and abortion says he doesn’t have a problem with 99% of the Girl Scout organizations.

Bob Morris (R-Ft. Wayne) sent a letter to his fellow House freshmen saying he could not sign on to a resolution honoring the 100 years of the Girl Scouts history.

A copy of the letter is available here.

I  spoke with Morris Monday briefly afternoon, he says he wasn’t trying to offend anyone with his comments, just put out his opinion.  He says his opinion is based on research he has done on the organization.

He says the letter was originally meant for his colleagues trying to educate them on the organization.

He also says he and his wife have taken their daughters out of Girl Scouts and will join another organization.

When asked about the Morris letter, House Speaker Brian Bosma dismissed the matter altogether.

Lawmakers are scheduled to adjourn on May 9.

  • Wurstnitemare

What pisses me off more is the fact that Bosma dismissed this matter. Really??? one of your wonder boys goes rogue and you dont do anything about it. We can write off the whack job in southern indiana about the national anthem singing deal. But I think that Morris really believes this crap.

Its nut cases like this and Fettig that continue to make the party look like a bunch of hating fools. Morris is a sick puppy and needs to be removed. How can any sane voter stand behind this lunatic.Im hearing that Hinkle is Morris’s mentor.Go figure.

  • M Theory

I also quit the Girl Scouts back in the 70′s.  We were poor and couldn’t afford camp.  I went door to door in my uniform and sold cookies.  I sold the most (naturally).

They gave me no aid to go to camp even though I clearly needed financial aid and was their top fundraiser.

I remember crying and writing in my handbook that I was going to join the boy scouts!  I was very hurt and did not get to go to camp.

  • Pascal

Well, prior to getting new knowledge, how many people knew Komen Foundation was back door funding baby killers?  With Planned Parenthood involvement with the Girl Scouts, it ain’t your old time scouting organization anymore.

  • Pogden297

Everybody is mocking this legislator, suggesting he simply made it up out of thin air, but the Girl Scouts connection and partnership with Planned Parenthood is actually old news.  It’s been out there for years.  Even some mainstream media outlets have reported on it, including the Washington Times.  I think we can have a debate whether GSA’s association with PP is a good idea, but to suggest the legislator simply made it up, well that’s obviously not accurate.

  • Scouting Cookies

The PC “rule” is, charges of same sex pedaphiia are too “uncomfortable” to report or take seriously.  By their “logic,” this girl scout must be a liar (along with concerned parents:  www.wnd.com/2012/01/teen-girl-scout-calls-for-cookie-boycott/

  • Pogden297

Are you actually saying he’s a ”nut case” or a “lunatic” for actually believing there’s a working relationship between Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood?  Here’s an interview with the Girl Scouts CEO in which she admits to the relationship.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppX6oXCmHF4

I think we can debate whether the PP relationship is a good thing, but you shouldn’t call someone a “nut case” for believing something that is actually not in dispute.

  • Southsider

Just Google: Girls Scouts of America and planned parenthood and see the hits, over 10 pages.  The following link of Feb 1 2012 was interesting   http://cnsnews.com/news/article/pelosi-girl-scouts-relationship-planned-parenthood-very-valuable

  • Doug

Don’t water down what Morris actually alleges. He didn’t actually say that there is a “working relationship.” He actually says that Girls Scouts is the “tactical arm” of Planned Parenthood.

And then there is that business about feminists, lesbians, and Communists. Oh my.

That’s before you even get to the “so what.” God forbid girls learn how to make healthy decisions about their body. That’s the problem when Planned Parenthood gets caricatured as some kind of evil organization, seeking to turn America’s women into a bunch of abortion-craving sluts. When reasonable organizations have reasonable interactions with Planned Parenthood, there is a fun house mirror effect that turns the relationship into some kind of corrupt bargain with the Devil; turns you into a tactical arm of indoctrination.

  • Doug

I doubt the mockery would be occurring if he said, Girl Scouts has a relationship with Planned Parenthood and I think Planned Parenthood sucks so bad I now question Girl Scouts. But, that’s not what he wrote.

  • Ramon

It makes one wonder if there is a secret school somewhere that is teaching Republicans about outrageous actions to take and statements to make.  What must the rest of the U.S. think of all the right winged, crazy hate speech coming from the Indiana GOP???

  • indyernie

Who cares what someone is thinking? Who cares what you think? GSA has an on going relationship with Planned Parenthood. PP is the leader in abortions in America. How can we stand against the killing of babies and support the very organizations that support and condone the killing?

  • Wurstnitemare

Your really saying that this man is sane?

    Really?

The sad thing is that this whack job really believe what he is saying.Thats the sick part of the whole thing.

How is he going to react when he finds out there are naked people on the internet?

This scum bad is living in the1800s.he really believes everything that heh reads on the internet?

He also probably believes that Mourdock is electable.

  • Wurstnitemare

Paul, you are missing the point. He made it all about himself, not the issue. The debate is not about the GAS with PP, its about a rogue state lawmaker making absurd hateful statements that accomplish nothing. Really, what good is gong to come out of the hate that spews from this creeps pie hole?

We already have one morally defunct nut running around the state by the name of Mourdock. Now we have a Mourdock / Delph wanna be trying to make a name for himself on the backs of little girls.

For Bosma to dismiss this childish act is inexcuseable.

I get that there are those of you who bow down to Charlie White as a Political prisoner/ casualty. But to condone this jerk wads statements be beyond comprehension. If I was Morris, I would be very worried about the dirt that will be dug up about him.Im betting there is plenty.

  • Pogden297

Doug, you’re right.  He went too far in what he said.  But people who are saying that PP has no relationship with Girl Scouts and it’s completely made up are completely wrong.

PP is the largest provider of abortion services in the country. That’s a pretty big reason to dislike PP.  You can try to separate PP’s abortion services from other services, but at the end of the day money is fungible.  If other parts of PP is more profitable, that gives PP more money for abortion.

  • Pogden297

I agree his comments went too far.  But people who insist he made the whole thing up, that Planned Parenthood has no relationship with Girl Scouts, well that simply isn’t true.

As far as Mourdock, absolutely he’s electable.  At least he has a home in Indiana. Even if Lugar gets elected, they can refuse to seat him because he’s not an inhabitant of Indiana.

  • Pogden297

Yes, Doug, that’s exactly where he should have stopped.

  • KrisAHB

The youth serving organization, chartered by the US Congress, is officially titled “Girl Scouts of the USA.”  He got it wrong on many counts.

  • Wurstnitemare

Paul, he did go to far.Im am not insisting that he made this up.His own words are enough proof that he is a nut job. I can go on line and show you 1,000 relationships.

But to call out the first lady like he did was barbaric and infantile at best.he is in way over his little pin head. I may not like her,but she is the first lady and every first lady for the last 40 years has been named hoary chairman of this drive. He owes every female that has ever been a girl scout an apology.

Mourdock electable? He’s down 25+ points and has less than $200K to spend. His burn rate is in excess of 60%. His campaign team is a mess. He is going through campaign staff faster than Fettig goes through head wax.

You are an expert at burn rates. You of all people now that he cannot keep this up. At this rate he will be out of cash by the middle of March. He ill need to spend at least 2.5 Mil to even make a dentMourdock coud have won this if he had not pulled a Melina. Ugly early rarely wins.

These two guys are exactly why the Republican party is seen as a bunch of hate mongers. All they do is bitch about things.

  • Whats up in Ft. Wayne

I’ve seen far more hate, innuendo, and allegations made in the above posts that are more aggravating and say more about the extremism of people posting as much as any negative fallout from Mr. Morris.  In this case, Mr. Morris made it on national news with further negative association with PP. , and it should give parents pause to ask what exactly are the girls taught in their camp meetings.  I applaud his courage and hope he continues to speak out.  If you don’t like it, vote him out.

  • Sher398

I sincerely hope he is putting his daughters in American Heritage Girls!  They are the best organization out there for girls and they are partnered with the Boy Scouts.  Both are the best moral choice for our children who want to build character, not abortion mills.  Go to:  http://www.ahgonline.org

  • Indyernie

Who would ever think that doing something as simple as buying a box of cookies makes us supporters of aborting babies…. I’ll never buy another box of GS cookies.

  • Sher398

Go to: http://www.speaknowgirlscouts.com, girlscoutswhynot.com, Catholic?  Well you will be disgusted by this series: American Heritage Girls is the way to go for conservative families who are tired of the liberal agenda that clearly, the Girl Scouts has.  Get informed before you condemn someone who has the guts to stand by his convictions.  He is a political minority.  God Bless him.

  • Scooter

    I don’t see a problem.

It’s a fact the there are childrens organizations that (to a limited degree) have been subverted by those with an agenda other than what the charters & handbooks say their purpose is.

It’s a shame kids just can’t be kids without some liberal adult screwing the whole thing up.

  • Guest

It would be nice if these “concerned Catholics” would get just as upset over child molesters as they do the girl scouts.

  • Abort Indy Ernie

Abortions are awesome! Every girl should have one! who doesn’t like killing babies! Even if you are raped – say no to abortions!

  • Scouting Cookies

Guessed:  Catholics are concerned about child molestation irrespective of excuses of gender or orientation.  You don’t know any concerned Catholics?

  • Scooter

Catholics are just a lightning rod for the Christian faiths.

Their specific faith has existed for just short of 2000 years, and is under scrutiny & attack by those that consider themselves knowledgeable of the faith…. but then foolish persons like Biden & Pilosi don’t help.

  • Nick

These are the same nut cases that though the smurfs cartoon was communist propaganda.

Guess Witch Hunting is fun for some people.

  • Scouting Cookies

It’s Girl Scouts, not Scouting for Girls (predatory perversion of mission & indoctrination), right?  What’s “fun” about that?

Who are the blood suckers of public funding for abortion, if not witch hunters, of those least able to defend themselves?

Half the humans destroyed by abortion are women, a profound disconnect from the Girl Scout’s Promise & Oath & expectation of most scouting parents.
    The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.The Girl Scout LawI will do my best to behonest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, andresponsible for what I say and do,and torespect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, andbe a sister to every Girl Scout.

  • Think Again

The facts are pretty clear.  About 7% of PP’s resources go to abortion.

Tell me please–what in your budget, that costs 7% or less, controls your life completely? O the degree that you demand the rest of your life stand on its head while the 7% fills the vacuum?

I’ll wait right over here while you asnwer.

Fungible?  Please.  This is an all-out culture war, and mark my words: war has casualties.  As Rush Limbaugh says: war is about killing people and breaking things.

In this non-combat war, we’re being forced to adhere to the very, very narrow religious views of a distinct minority.  They hold the legislative process hostage with threats.  It’s very effective. Cats like Eric Miller and his cronies make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year exploiting this wedge.

But it cannot and will not last forever.  They were wildly successful in 2010.  Will they be as successful this year?  Time will tell.

But please.  Let’s call it what it is.

  • Think Again

I’ve spoken today with Ft. Wayne friends and political veterans–one on each side of the aisle.

They agree this legislator is charming.  But they think his slip-of-tongue shouldn’t be a surprise, given his last performance.

And they believe he’s single-handedly taken a 60% Republican district and made it competitive with one stupid remark that went tool far.

Please.  May his tribe multiply.  You folks work on your side of the aisle–let him mingle brain cells with the like of Noe, Hinkle, Thompson, et al.

I’ll see if I can’t duplicate that thought process with some Democratic n’er-do-wells.

Retirement has become a virus in this legislature.  We just need it to be an epidemic.

It’s a polyester palace with mind-numbing simplicity.  We need some good minds on both sides of the aisle.  There are far too few.

  • Think Again

Paul’s point is certainly legitimate.  It just doesn’t change anything.

  • Think Again

You know who else has a “relationship” with PP? Every single state-funded university.

You know who has a relationship with the Cahtolic Church, which is guilty of massive and repugnant decades-long hiding and lying about illicit priest-child sex?  State universities, many cities and towns, all public libraries statewide….

See how easy it is to make guilt-by-association the favored-nation argument?

I wish the world were as pure as you’d like to see it, Ernie. It’d be a hell of a lot simpler.

But it’s not. It never was. It never will be.

The accusations made by this representative are purposely blown out of proportion by him.  Specifically because he knew it would get a larger reaction.

He cooked the stew.  He can eat it.

I’ve been arond the blocks a few times.  Woe the fool who under-estimates Allen County Republican voters.  They are stealth and effective.  And they don’t like this kind of attention.

  • Indyernie

You are one sick bastard…I wish you would come on over and try to abort me.

  • G Square

To all of the commenters regarding how abhorrent abortion is to their personal beliefs, I have a practical question:  What is your plan for the extra 1.2 million unwanted babies that will be born each year?  Only about 20% of the children available for adoption each year are actually adopted.  The rest stay in the system of orphanages and foster homes.  All of the people who are so eager to reverse Roe V Wade certainly aren’t rushing out and taking care of the children that are already born.  What is your plan when the number of orphans triples?  Will you each take in 3 or 4 babies?  Is your belief strong enough to back up your strident rhetoric with “Christian” action?

Ernie, you especially with your “no abortion, no matter what” philosophy.  How many kids have you adopted this year?  Remember, there’s going to be a new batch every year, so last year’s adoptions won’t count.

  • Scooter

My “… plan …” was a simple one.   Don’t hit it unless you want to be a parent… forever.

If fathers and mothers had to take responsibility for producing that little one, (without government intervention and aid), they may think before doing the horizontal aerobics.

And don’t give me that crap about how people are gonna “… do it anyway…”.  If you wish to compare yourself to a stray cat or dog, your problem.

The comment,  “… with your ‘no abortion, no matter what’ philosophy.  How many kids have
you adopted this year?  Remember, there’s going to be a new batch every
year…”     Is hogwash also as we, the responsible taxpayer, already ‘PAY’ for it.

You had your fun, you can pay for it.  I’m tired of my checkbook shouldering all the fuck-ups in this society.

  • Ramon

Are you saying that married couples should refrain from sex once the size of their family is reached.  Do you agree with Rick Santorum that sex is only for procreation?

  • Scooter

Santorm is a bit narrow for me, and no… I don’t look at sex as just for the perpetuation of the species either.

It’s about personal responsibility. It’s not for the taxpayer to fund your condoms, BCP’s, abortions, healthcare, daycare, section 8 housing or foodstamps for your bastard because you couldn’t keep your fly zipped or your ankles together.

Be an adult. Stand up and be responsible.

Ok. Let’s call it BULLSHIT!  This nation is moving more toward pro-life all the time. Polls say more than 50% are pro-life. Only in your world is that a ‘distinct minority’.

  • Think Again

Is your copy an exact copy, o did you re-keyboard it?

Because the letter is address to the “Republic Caucus,”  which is, I suppose, former workers of Republic Airlines or something.

And the man needs an editor badly.  But then so do you, Abdul.

If it is an exact duplicate, wow.

  • Think Again

    **or   sticky r key

  • Think Again

Sadly, for too long, not enough of them were in church leadership.

  • G Square

Sorry Scooter, your beliefs are clouding your common sense.  I absolutely agree with you that both parents should be responsible for preventing pregnancy or living with the consequences of not preventing it.  I, too, am tired of funding all the different ways that people screw up and then expect someone else to assume responsibility.  However, it’s not “crap” about cats and dogs.  Abortion is not a modern concept, it’s been around since the Egyptians or before.  It’s also not unique to US society.  How does your plan of “don’t hit it” succeed where other plans have not?  How do you reverse decades of government supported lack of personal responsibility?  It’s also not “hogwash” about the new crop every year.  The funds that cover abortion are but a drop in the ocean to the funding that would be needed to support 1.2 million additional unwanted babies every year.  We would be supporting them for the next 18 years along with all the societal ills resulting from miserable traumatized children growing into dysfunctional adults.
Defeating Roe v Wade is not the finish line, only the start.  If the anti-abortion groups don’t put forward a comprehensive plan to deal with the ramifications of achieving their goal, we’ll all be left with another huge mess. It will just have a different smell and a much higher price tag.

  • Scooter

Awww hell, Rico.  Let those folks have their way.

Just think about it… with all the abortions, partial birth abortions, death panels determining when to get rid of grandma…. soon liberals will cease to exist!!

    Cool how that’ll work out.
    8-)

  • Scooter

Thank you for a very good set of answers.  Enjoyed listening & thinking about what you said.

    I do admit, as you have stated, that my beliefs have clouded my common sense. Here’s why;

I came off the Reservation just before my 14th birthday, as I knew it was no place to be.  Told that I was not wanted, a punching bag for drunk/stoned adults, it was take responsibility for myself, or be a statistic in a Potters Field.

That’s where my sense of responsibility towards being a parent came from.  No little ones by accident, be mature enough to handle the role of ‘dad’, and realize that their path should be out of their choice, not caused by their situation.

People rarely take the difficult route…. and turning off the money tap would sure elicit the modification of behaviors in short order.

If we are to survive as a truly free society, in the long term,  we need to get steppin’ down that bumpy road now.

  • G Square

Glad you made it out, well done!  I agree with what you’re saying.  I agree that turning off the money tap would be highly motivational.  I just don’t think any of the politician have the guts to do it.  They only seem to think about re-election, not doing what’s best for the country.  They won’t do anything that will cost them votes.  Let’s face it, people on the dole constitute a large vocal voting bloc.  The overseers disguised as their “leaders” know just how to lead them by the nose.  That’s why all we get in the primary races are vague platitudes and neutral statements, no specifics that can be held against them come election day.  It’s depressing.  I’m looking hard at becoming an expatriate.  I don’t want to be here when the Visigoths come through the gates.

  • Whomever

This gets better.  Apparently Rep. Morris has managed to purge/remove the evil Girl Scouts from the school/church his daughters attend. His influence is even wider and more perverse than I thought.

  • M Theory

I find it ironic how much the liberals care about second hand smoke as a killer, yet how little they care about unborn babies.

They support a mother’s right to choose, but not a bar owner’s right to choose or a worker’s right to a choice in whether or not to pay union dues.

    Typical hypocrites.

  • Rico

You’re absolutley right.  Whether it’s education, property rights, 2nd amendment rights, etc., etc., they really don’t give a damn about the individual’s rights unless it involves that person’s right to kill the most innocent among us.
