More Satellite Fights

The Marion County Election Board is expected to take up satellite voting at 10 a.m. today.  I spoke to Republican Board member P.J. Dietrick this weekend and have a post about it up over at our sister blog Indy Politics.  I’ll also be live tweeting the meeting.  You can follow me either @AttyAbdul or @IndyPoliticsOrg.

Is Indy Politics a blog?  Nobody can submit their opinion…

I consider it a web site, NOT a blog!

  • Abdul

There is an open forum for comments.

  • Anonymous

    how?

  • Anonymous

I still think that asking the UAW for money is the same as asking any other POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE for money…of course, if they contribute, they’ll expect an in-kind “consideration.”

  • Turk182

Who thinks the UAW is fronting $50,000.00 as being kind for all?
Since when has the UAW done things for all?
Do you all remember the stock holders being bent over by the Federal government, and the General Motors re-structuring scheme.
How did  that one work out for the UAW.
I’ll tell you their in the drivers seat!
BEWARE! this is only a vested interest for the UAW!

  • Dave

Here’s an idea!  Andrew Breitbart’s offered something like $100,000, for CBC proof of mistreatment allegations against the Tea Party.  So, if the county clerk would make an appeal to Indiana’s 7th D office holder, to provide that “evidence;” she could double her money!

  • Think Again

A few facts which seem to have bene lost in this “discussion” :

    1. The UAW offered the money–it was not sought.
    2. The Republican-controlled legislature mandated that satellite voting must be a unanimous vote of a county election board: they knew in advance how Marion County would vogte on this.
    3. 2008 satellite voting gave voters ore choices and times to vote.  It worked.  Not one case of fraud or mismanagement was reported.

Again: just what are Republicans afraid of?

I don’t care who pays for it–let the most far-right spec ial interest pay for it.  The process is heavily-monitored and watched.  It can’t be bought.  It is a function that our tax dollars should support, however…it’s a lot more sensible than many of the other expenditures our County undertakes.

And, Abdul, maybe you can ask this today: I thought the Clerk put satellite voting in her 2011 budget, which was already approved a year ago.  True?

    BAMM! Take that Beth White.

    Common since prevails.

  • Indyernie

“Not one case of fraud or mismanagement was reported.”
Maybe not in 2008 but photos are available from 2010.

    “The
UAW offered the money–it was not sought.”

    I think we
just heard testimony that the Clerk’s Office reached out to the community and
    sought ideas and private funding.

This is a very sad day in the history of Indy politics. Both parties have shown their total distain for the citizens of our city.

This is proof that both sides are all about making sure that a few control the many.

I have NVEVER been this disappointed  in our system.

I now consider Dietrich the lowest form of humanity that is slithering the halls of the 25th floor. I understand that he took his orders from Brooks and the 25th,however this reeks of control and is just more proof that its pay to play in indy on both sides of the isle.

White did what she could,be in the end it was perceived as a gimmick.

Im disappointed that the Ballard campaign thinks that this one issue would cause them to loose the elction. Is their campaign really in that bad of shape that they consider this a threat?

Indianapolis is truly worse off today than they were yesterday. The Mayor has made it impossible to get to the City County building to vote early. No parking and they know it. If you don’t think that it was not planned this way then you are sadly mistaken.

What Walker and Brooks miss is that there are lots of Republicans that want easy access to the pols, now they are being told that they will not be able to have that access because of politics.

Very sad day in our city. We should all be offended by the actions of Dietrich the man is a spineless troll.

Lets see how your Bammmming on the 8th of November

  • pascal

If true, that would be reason # (infinity sign) to distrust any “facts” put forward by a certain longwinded and inaccurate poster here.

  • I Beat Think to the Punch

Gotta beat Think on this one: “distain” should be “disdain”. If you really meant you want to change the color of the citizens of Indianapolis then disregard this post. :)

  • Wilson46201

    Once
again, the local GOP/TeaParty says NO to Indianapolis voters —
Ballard’s guy on the Election Board just deep-sixed satellite voting —
    shameful!

  • Dave

According to the County Clerk, any voter can vote early in the Clerk’s office, beginning 29 days prior to the election.  We already have satellite voting!  People get in & out of downtown for all manner of business, every day; including jobs & entertainment.

Nationally, the UAW is concerned about counting absentee votes of those stationed or shipped out from 29 Palms; right?

Satellite voting, Jeopardy answer:  ”What are 29 days?”

  • jlg

And you honestly do not think there is a conflict of interest with the UAW donating money for satellite voting?
Are you really that thick headed?

  • pascal

I did not know that the concept of shame was included in the racist repetoire elsewise Andre Carson would have fessed up by now to being a serial liar and racist. Maybe Al Sharpton can be baited into apologizing to Indianapolis for Andre but I won’t hold my breath awaiting for that deadbeat. And, as far as I know, the local Tea Party folks don’t have much say in the Ballard Administration-got any evidence otherwise? Thought not.

  • indyernie

Watch the video. A witness testified that help was sought and Beth White stated that she talked with the League Of Women Voters and asked. Beth stated that the LOWV responded that they wished that they had 50K to give the city.TA’s tongue, sometimes wags, before his ears compute.

So what you are stating if I’m right is….1. R’s should let the D’s make all the decisions concerning the election, 2. we should be happy with early votes that cost us $8.00 each, 3. we should allow a partisan PAC to control a democratic function, 4. The R’s should just bend over and allow the D’s more time to turn out more D votes, 5. we should allow more options that will allow the D‘s to operate outside of the law… when will it stop when we have a one party city where R‘s leave Indy or run as D‘s as they do in Chicago?

  • indyernie

Your comment about parking is BS. I’ve been to The CCB four times in the past month. I’ve had no problem finding parking. My wife was down today and twice last week, again no problem parking. IF Peterson/Kennedy hadn’t ignored the CCB for eight years Ballard wouldn’t have to do so much now. What were we to do, wait for the building to crumble? Ballard making entry a problem is total BS. Every doors is open and none of the pathways are blocked.

  • Dietrich for Saint Hood

The GOP didn’t say NO to the voters, it said HELL NO to Beth White and Ed Treacy and their disingenuous practices and in doing so preserved voter integrity for all.

  • indyernie

You wouldn’t ask that if you had ever met Wilson….bone headed would be a better term.

  • Wurstnitemare

Ernie, You are an insider,so you probably have one of those super secret parking passes that were handed out by ACS to Ballard insiders. So parking is not a problem for you

Go ahead and ask the City Market management how the lack of parking affects their business, then come back and have a grown up conversation.

I don’t think either party was right in this matter. It should have never come to this. The fact is that if the voters come out,Ballard looses. If not he wins.He has to do everything that he can to suppress the votes..at any cost.Including his dignity.

BTW, how do I get one of those super secret passes that gets you free parking and gets you out of tickets. And, please don’t tell me that those don’t exist.

  • Indyernie

    If I
wanted one I would ask Ed Treacy, if $500.00 will get you a favorable ruling
I’m sure for $200.00 he could get you a parking pass.

    As for
me, I pay the booth or meters and I NEVER have a problem finding parking.

    Until
we redefined usage of the Market it will remain empty regardless of the
    parking.

  • Pogden297

    BAMM.  Take that Mayor Ballard.

This was an obvious political setup and the Ballard and Walker fell for it hook, line an sinker.

  • Pogden297

Wilson, Mayor Ballard is so far removed from the tea party, it’s not funny.  Ballard is the antithesis of everything the tea party stands for.

  • Pogden297

And you honestly think this is about the money.  It’s about my party trying to get a few hundred vote advantage in the election and giving the Democrats a thousand vote issue to use against them.

  • Pogden297

Parking at around the City County Building is a nightmare.  Occasionally you luck out, but there have been times I’ve given up and gone home rather than park 6 blocks away to file something in the CCB.

  • Pogden297

TA, it’s just us Republicans being very stupid about an issue.

  • MH

Sattelite voting IS expensive.  Jesus..can you imagine how much it would cost to send voters to the Moon?

  • Dave

It doesn’t rise to the level of being “hard.”  Hard is a much different concept, lest it be bummed down; by the lazy & ain’t of heart.

  • indyernie

Do you have a mouse in your pocket again? One of these day you will realize that you don’t speak for other Republicans.
