Dueling Endorsements

Interesting happenings Thursday evening, by a reported vote of 125-36, Melina Kennedy won the endorsement of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police.  There are at least 1600 members in the FOP. Greg Ballard won the endorsement of Spencer Moore, the father of David Moore who was killed in the line of duty.  The ad is below.  Make your own calls on how this impacts the Mayor’s race.

If it were me I would gladly take the endorsement of the guy whose son was killed in the line of duty over the organization that voted to defend David Bisard who allegedly killed someone and critically injured two others while driving drunk.

I’m also told that Marion County Sheriff John Layotn’s campaign paid for about 50 Sheriff’s deputies so they could vote this evening.  This should make for interesting mailers, don’t you think?  To be honest, I don’t know why any candidate would want the FOP’s endorsement this year.

With that said, this is the last post until Tuesday.  It is anniversary weekend and the lovely Mrs. Shabazz takes precedent.   After two years the traditional gifts are cotton and straw.  However, somehow I think q-tips and a broom won’t quite cut it.

For those of you who still can’t get enough, here’s my appearance on Thursday’s edition of Afternoons with Amos; much fun was had by all.

Enjoy your weekend.  I will.

    Indyernie,
I feel sorry for you.  You want to defend your man.  Your man is simply indefensible in the area of IMPD leadership.  All of his minions vote based on “scratch my back” politics and now you are upset because the FOP pointed that out.
You are just but one of the thousands of thousands swept up in the path of destruction that Straub has created across the United States for many decades.
Good luck and I look forward to reading you and Abdul’s rubber stamp postings about Ballard in the next couple of months.

Well my popint, Scooter, was that some cops don’t do their routine paperwork in a timely manner. Bisard did.  It’s not a scientific survey, and what he did on that fateful day last year disgusts me.

We need to expect and receive routinely good customer service form IMPD.  And we don’t.

  • Think Again

Really?  Spence has publicly said that?  Funny.  Didn’t get reported here.  Or anywhere else.

  • Think Again

    Well Bully for you.

    Me, five separate times–no returns.

A neighbor around the corner: three times.  And THAT neighbor cornered him at the Irvington Halloween Festival last year, and called him, too.  Nothing.

He must be very comfortable in his Butler job.  Good for him.

He may win.  It’s an odd year.

And if he’s fighting FOR take-home cars, he definitely doens’t have my vote.  We just can’t afford them any more.

I saved the email log for a year.  Then discarded it.

Pardon me if I’m not suprised that YOU don’t believe I emailed. Put your ear to the ground.  Irvington folks are not pleased with Ben. Nor Rep. Cindy.  Proof will be in the pudding; just because you’re being such a smartass about it, I’m going to report here, the election results for predominantly-Irvington precincts.

  • Think Again

    Uh–he doesn’t.

Well my emails involved neighborhood issues, and I wasn’t aware that council members edited their “reply” list.  Each issue was briefly outlined and contained street/phone contact info.

Ultimately one of the at-large council members processed our concerns and got answers.

I’m pretty comfortable with the inquiries and the tenor of the inquiries.  Tame by this blog’s standards.

CCC subcomittee hearing for Straub’s reappointment vote.

Channel 16 footage of Spencer’s call for Straub to go would be fair to show the contrast.

I don’t know what Pauldivine is referring to with “you didn’t get your way.”

Frank Straub has been imposing dirty NY policitical style since his arrival.  He immediately expanded the staff of the Public Safety Director to a level never before seen, puts “Dept of Public Safety” on police, fire, EMS equipment and media backdrops, remodels his suite of offices (with a shower) at taxPAYER expense, has no-bid $71000 contract to his east coast buddy (make-work, do-nothing payback for being his buddy), spends huge amounts of money on “studies” by think tanks, hires “consultants” to come up with a promotional process that is currently delayed by court order due to Straubs’ own misconduct.  He has not been hiring police/firmen and now we have a crisis in our neighborhoods due to a lack of police.  I am active in my crime watch and we do notice Straub builinding himself a NY style kingdom at our expense.

Straub obviously cannot manage money.  It was reported he didn’t pay the electric bill for a police station and IPL came to shut off the power for non-payment.  It has been reported that he won’t buy toilet paper/hand sanitizer for police bathrooms.  (But Straub has a fine shower in his suite of offices that are newly remodeled at our expense)  Indianapolis no longer has a police helicopter, but Straub has a big staff of high-paid unnecessary yes men and a public relations staff (why?)

I don’t like to see a government official wasting tax money and Straub takes the cake!  He needs to go.

Your own words, “Me”:  “it could grow under current law.”

Sorry, but governing least is governing best.

…and Bart raided the capital purchase fund, stopped buying police cars, fire engines, and snow plows.  When Bart was kicked out of office by the taxPAYERS, all we had left was rust-buckets to try and plow our streets.  As I recall D law firm found Bart quite lucrative…..

Wow.  Another blunder by Ballard and/or his campaign staff.  That damned-near neuters ANY value of Spence’s endorsement.  And Spence is a nice guy, but if he favors a guy who appoints at PSD he opposes, that’s forked-tongue talk.

Ben has proactively contacted me on Twitter and/or Facebook to update me on legislation he knows I’m interested in. When  the ordinance pass finalizing that KeyStone Towers/Winona would come down, he contacted me without me asking about it.

Never contacted him through e-mail. I don’t live in his district.

The police are no one’s enemy. I never stated that and no one eles has. The LEO’s WILL get the suooprt that they need. God knows Melina is elected they will need all of us in support.

I was asking a question NOT writing the FOP’s message.

    Sorry Indy4u2c,
I did not know I needed to hold your hand through the line of logic.  If the Mayor’s role “grows” then the other governing body that previously had the school “shrinks.”  Neutral overall growth of government.
Whewww!!  walking people like you through the whole thing is getting to be like work or something.
