Only in I.P.S.

Here’s one to really make your day.  Indianapolis Public School Superintendent Idi Amin, no Papa Doc Duvalier, no Eugene White, has reportedly given his son who works for the district a promotion.

Reggie White was a “Behavior Dean” (whatever that was) at Arsenal Tech High School.  He’s been promoted to Assistant Principal.  His salary also goes from more than $78,000 annually to $92,000.

That’s nearly $10,000 more than what Tony Bennett, the Superintendent of Public Instruction makes and $3,000 less than Governor Mitch Daniels’ salary.   He also makes more than the Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer and Auditor.

To be honest I really can’t blame IPS for opposing school reform, charters and accountability.   If I had this kind of scam going too, I would fight for it tooth and nail.

And what do you expect from a school district that gives its Superintendent a bonus based on suspect graduation rates, more than 16% of the students don’t show up on the first day, and by my last count has nearly 350 employees who make at least $90,000 in salary and benefits.

So the next time IPS complains about no money and budget cuts, ignore them and pray the state speeds up its time line for a takeover.   Now I need to go check my e-mail for some hate mail from Mary Louise Bewley.

How else would you expect the Capo di tutti i buchi culo to behave?

  • Mustang Sally

If you think that is bad take a look at the money that the folks that run the ani-smoking campaign for the state make. You will not believe what you see.The top four folks there all make over $75K

Wonder what assessment metric would work to validate pay scales for assistant principals…..

And they wonder why folks begin to think about taking their cause to the streets. They have no shame.

I hope he has a license for that…

This is news??? I can’t wait for the state to take them over. Then when the scores don’t improve and conditions worsen there will be no unions, “bad teachers” or school boards to scapegoat. MY how stupid some people will look. Surprise. Maybe that’s why the state didn’t do it ten years ago when they had the same reasons..

One metric only: the lucky sperm club

Absolutely fair. Their work is humane and worthy.

Reggie White’s work is meritorious. His path to his current job is nepotism-laden, and unworthy.

There. I was trying to type like Dave sometimes does. But I think it made the point.

If they get one penny of taxpayer money, not fair. Of course all pro-government, and quasi-government, types loves raping taxpayers so long as their personal bank accounts are the final resting place of those taxpayer dollars.

Yesterday afternoon, Abdul, your website was slow or not accessible (“Forbidden Error 403″)

Pascal and Rico are probably happy I wasn’t able to get in. But this has happened before. Wassup?

Abdul – Any statistics on how long those people who earn over 90,000 in salary and BENEFITS – which isn’t much when you combine the two, have been working. What type of experience they have. What percentage of them have college degrees? What percentage of the total IPS workforce this is? How does it compare to other companies/school districts/ business of similiar size?

I see this for what it is. A little Red Meat for the people. Just throwing out numbers and these feeble minded sheep can’t help but fall for it everytime.

  • Mike Lowery

Bob — it is easier just to talk.

  • Mike Lowery

John – so how much is fair compensation ?

  • Abdul

    Server issue!

I have a chart embedded in the web blog. Do an “IPS Salary” search. You will be amazed at what comes back.

It’s all kind of silly, really. Tobacco growers get federal subsidies not to grow more tobacco. That’s our tax dollars going to tobacco farmers.

Tobacco kills more people than any other single health issue. It is the number-one antagonist for our collective health bills. Which are paid–44% in 2008 (the last year for which numbers are readily available)–by tax dollars.

If my government wants to find ways to restrict smoking, which is a demonstrated health risk, so be it. We’re actually behind the times on this one…it is coming–it’s just a matter of when.

I was under the impression that the anti-smoking lobby was largely funded by the funds from the Tobacco Settlement Fund, which is not taxpayer money. Can someone enlighten us?

A Republican plot. Extension cord to Bosma’s office?

  • Mike Lowery

Will do, but once again IF it is just raw numbers such as “Reggie White” makes $ 92,000. Then it doesn’t really give it a context upon which real discussion can be had.

FYI – The school I went to in High School had a ‘Behavior Dean’ and a ‘Dean of Academic’ I believe most schools do. That “Behavior Dean” went on to become the principal at Carmel.

For someone in academics I thought you would have at least come across a position like this before. Tell the thruth you were just taking a swipe at Reggie White’s position because you don’t like Eugene White.

  • Abdul

That was just an added bonus.

Well, I think just about everybody should get a greater salary than this Secretary of State- burger flippers, call center workers in India, the lot.
