Rest In Peace

Normally I’d have a blog post today and tomorrow, but Indiana Barrister has to go dark for a couple days.  This may sound odd, but my wife’s dog, a Yorkie Terrier,  which she has had since 1993, died this Friday.

It’s been really rough on her and as the good husband, my job is to give her my complete attention.  She’s always been really bad at letting things go, which I guess is good for our marriage.

There will be plenty of time Sunday to talk about whether Brad Ellsworth can win or whether Charlie White will be able to stay in the game.  Who can win what will likely be a close race for Marion County Prosecutor and whether Mitch Daniels and Aiming Higher will get the Indian  House of Representatives.  But right now,  I’ve got take care of the lovely Mrs. Shabazz.

I’m sure you guys will find plenty of things to entertain yourselves and discuss.  I’ll be back Sunday with a few thoughts as we enter the 30-day stretch.

My sympathies go out to your wife. It is never easy losing a beloved pet.

  • Rico

My thoughts and prayers are with her, Abdul.

We true animal lovers know exactly how she feels. I’ve always believed that dogs were a gift to us from God and vice versa. If such a loss doesn’t affect us this way, we shouldn’t have them in the first place. What a happy life that little one must have had!

You usually don’t write much on weekends anyway. Which is fine.

Pets can be a big part of a person’s life, and I’m glad you’re understanding of that, Abdul. Good luck, good sir. Maybe now isn’t the time to tell her, but when she’s ready, a new furry friend will love her just as much as her departed one, someday in the future.

  • Think Again

My grandpa used to say, completely seriously: “Dogs are people, too.” In a very real sense, to animal lovers, they are.

Grief will give way to pleasant memories.

The Human Society is open today…if it’s not too soon.

    Peace.

Pets are the spiritual connection between people and nature. Pets are companions and give us a better life on earth. Losing a pet is identical to losing a person we care very much about. I’m sorry for your loss.

We’re dog people in this house. Our sincere condolences to Mrs. Shabazz.

Dogs like red meat and I wonder why this red meat (from American Thinker Blog) has had no attention from bloggers.

    Indiana 7

This has become one of those dynastic Democrat districts. It was represented in Congress by Julia Carson, from 1996 until her death in 2007, and since 2008 by her grandson, Andre Carson. Like Schakowsky, Carson is a near 100% supporter of the Pelosi agenda in Congress. This district, while Democrat-friendly, is less so than Illinois 9. Charles Cook rates it Democrat +14, but in the special election for the open seat in 2008, Andre Carson won by only 9,000 votes, or 11%, in a very Democratic year. This year is likely to be much less friendly to the Democrats in this district, and across Indiana. Barack Obama carried Indiana in 2008, but Dan Coats, the GOP Senate candidate, leads by close to 20% in the race for Evan Bayh’s open seat.

Some analysts assume that this Indianapolis area district must be a black-majority district (and therefore unwinnable, given strong majorities won by Democrats among African-Americans), since Carson, a black Muslim, is its representative. In fact, fewer than 30% of residents are African-American, and the same job loss issue plaguing so many other districts, is a big issue here. The Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda has not facilitated job creation, while running up huge record-breaking annual deficits.

There are also some unique issues in this contest. Schakowsky is J-Street’s queen bee, but Carson is Louis Farrakhan’s candidate of choice, and has signed letters very critical of Israel’s right to defend itself, earning him a 100% rating from the Arab American League. He has angered 2nd-amendment supporters with his anti-gun position. He has voted for all the major spending and regulatory bills — TARP, the stimulus, the health care reform bill, the financial regulatory bill.

Carson’s opponent, Dr. Marvin Scott, is also African-American, and a Professor of Sociology at Butler University, the school that came to national prominence with its run to the finals of the men’s NCAA basketball tournament this year. Scott, one of seven children of parents who grew up in the segregated South, is one of three in his family to work for a Ph.D., proof if ever needed, that the American dream is still alive and kicking for those willing to strive.

Scott is a social and fiscal conservative, a supporter of a strong national defense, and an ardent supporter of Israel. He is, to say the least, no fan of Louis Farrakhan. Scott ran for the Senate in 2004 and has name recognition in the state and in his district. He has the support of Congressman Mike Pence and Congressman Dan Burton. With all the competitive House races, Scott has had difficulty raising money in what could be a winnable race in a low turnout year for traditional Democratic voters in the district. For more on Dr. Scott’s campaign, or to contribute, visit his website…”
What I find amusing is that Dr. Scott was NOT the slated candidate of the stupid party and the stupid party does not seem to be supporting his effort AT ALL. Interesting, however, is that the slated candidate HAS been supporting Dr. Scott…actively. So, there is at least one smart member of the stupid party…..

    What a half-assed, inappropriate segway!

We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
    each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
    before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
    and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
    and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
    so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
    in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
    can see the bending grass.

The full Monte would involve discussing why some folks think a cookie shop ought to go out of their way to cook up cupcakes for those folks and why a Republican Mayor got sucked into to looking stupid over the matter.

  • Rico

Of course, it’s too soon. A loved one can’t simply be replaced.

  • Wolfrham Hart

I very much know the feeling. I’ve lost my faithful furry companion of 14 years earlier this week. That dog has been with me though the job losses, grad school, job hunts, bad girlfriends, wacky dates, and all the ups and downs of my life since our lives came together. He was with me through more things than most of my human friends and I miss his company.

I’ve seen a lot of bad in humanity and I’m convinced a dog is better than over 90% of people. If you’re a good companion to your dog he will be a great companion for you. Dogs simply generate the element of LOVE and makes a person feel better about themselves without fail.

I feel for your wife and I perfectly understand her pain.

  • Think Again

Once again, you couldn’t look more stupid if you tried.

  • Pascal

“I’m sure you guys will find plenty of things to entertain yourselves and discuss”. I guess not. Of course, when I decide to appear stupid I have a rather perfect role model in that great benefactor of Haiti.

  • Think Again

So, you want to be like me? I’m your role model?

You can’t make up your mind. Try decaf and a nap.

Get back to us when you make some sense.
