While this thread is getting old it should be noticed that several gas bags have popped a cork into their pieholes. Inconvenient facts for "liberals" now that the ACLU has come out against free speech?

Both sides of an issue? I've got time to listen. Tell me again about the pro side of slavery? I'm sure the Indianpolis Star would present it in order to show journalistic balance. Are there other issues which maybe have more than two sides?
Not to pick on you since I pay too many taxes also but it reminds of the lawyer who went to practice in a small Kansas town. He hung out his shingle and nearly starved for lack of a legal practice. A bit later, another lawyer moved into the same town and before too long they were both wealthy men.

Where you you advise looking for "objective news", Nick? That denotes covering both sides of a given issue. Where would we find that?

I suppose 50,000,000 or 60,000,000 abortions is no big deal to some since the world is well over a billion of them in the past few years.
But we might not be talking about the same thing. Factually, the views of Ms. ACLU as expressed in the NYT (a liberal rag, even, the liberal rag) ought to be addressed as to motive. Those students of political things might not recall when the NAACP obtained its first black board member or that the NAACP was run by an ethnic group not black...for many, many decades.
However, someone or something is killing human beings and a lot of them. The population loss in America is being replaced with Mexicans...you know, because there are all sorts of issues there. Blacks, of course, are being aborted the most....something like 40 to 60% of all black pregnancies are exterminated.
It is sort of a slow rolling genocide. But, TA and others are unconcerned about Justice Ginsburg's remarks.....deeming them "a stretch" or "a reach". Then, running silent when called out.

Chad, there's no room to argue the black, white and gray comment when your views, even in the case of rape, are set in stone. To you it is black and white, death or birth, sperm in egg = baby, don't kill the baby. That's your opinion and I respect you for it. I just don't agree with you. There's gray area for me. I'm absolutely not going to answer your question about finding gray area with owning slaves and gassing jews. I do have my limits with being baited.

The white baby comment wasn't in good taste, however, I do believe the majority of the fanatical anti-choicers do indeed have a preference of who they really don't want to have abortions. Fanatical anti-choicers often tend to be older, white, less educated, from the south, uber religious, etc. The same people who have problems with their less-educated children getting knocked up. If they just would've prayed harder....

And before I get lit up for my comments (not necessarily you Chad, you seem like an okay guy, worthy of conversation), please read my qualifiers. I try not to say "all people" or any absolutes like that. I've lived quite a few lives, many travels, enough to give honest opinions.

Yes, the GWB comment was about 50% tongue-in-cheek, but 50% of me actually feels that way. That mofo has blood on his hands and should be tried for war crimes along with a lot of his staff. My statement is true if a person voted for him just because he is "pro life". How pro life do they feel now? I shouldn't even ask that, because I don't think they'd feel too bad considering who we were killing.

The alternative is worse because abortions will happen with or without the law. There are all sorts of issues there- safety, medical, suicides, etc.

It's been real, Chad. I won't call you Crazy Zealot if you don't call me Killer Of The Unborn.

Best,
Derek

Derek,

….. “I understand they wern't white babies, and probably not on your radar.” and “sounds like oppressing a woman's right to choose, anything, is right up your alley.”

Why would non-white babies not be on my radar?

If an unborn child is in fact a child (which I presuppose), it is not an issue of oppression but rather murder. Freedom does not permit one to own slaves, gas Jews, or kill unborn children (if they are children). None of these are rights, they are crimes. So when Hitler in Germany wanted to gas a Jew it became everyone's business and had I lived there during that time, my business. A women (or a man) has no more right to kill her/his child and cry oppression than a slave owner or Hitler did with their oppressions. Derek, your worldview isn't about prohibiting oppression (I assume you believe that you are not oppressive), rather it shifts the oppression from the women to the child. If you see a women being raped, do you oppress the rapist or the women? I think you can understand that oppression is not applicable to the rapist. A women is not killing her own body during an abortion; she is killing a distinct person that is completely dependent on her motherly love and commitment to non-oppressive actions. And you are correct in saying laws will never change with the caveat being, as long as an unborn child is redefined as something other than human.

...and what about GWB? I will assume your ranting is rhetorical unless you were peering over my shoulder during those elections. GWB is not a pro-lifer and yes I too find it odd that so many conservative have been duped for so many years. At least liberals and libertarians have principles (they will slaughter unborn all day long and fight for it with pride). The conservative way seems to acknowledge the life of the unborn but then turn around and legislate that if a baby is going to be killed, you need to kill it in this manner. Again, if one believes that the unborn child is a human, then abortion is a crime.

“I understand not everything is black and white.”
Derek, please show me the gray area in owning slaves and gassing Jews. I think you will agree that some things are clearly black and white. You just don't want to categorize abortion as one of them. That's fine, but don't try to convince yourself and others that some things are not simply black and white (I will acknowledge my ignorance of you should you establish a gray in either of the two examples).

“I understand the alternative is worse”. Really? What is worse than an unborn child getting their limbs ripped off because their father was a rapist? An unborn child getting their limbs ripped off because mom didn't want to gain weight just yet!

“I'm voting for the smart guy, not the one that makes decisions based on ancient text.”
As an ultra conservative protestant (and that evil white color too) I am sometimes in the minority on issues of faith. Faith does not provide a means for judging the validity of something. Therefore, faith cannot arrive at truth. George H. Smith put forth such an argument in his book Atheism: The Case Against God. It was however a straw man argument. Faith IS NOT a means of acquiring knowledge and anyone who uses faith as such must first establish the deficiency in logic and reason to arrive at the truth in question.

"faith and family guide me... bla bla bla". Remember, guiding faith sent some planes into our buildings and our sons and daughters into harm's way.
You are equivocating. Faith here has two different meanings but you appear to be using them interchangeably.

“If I was a woman, unless it was rape or some health-related issue, I would not get an abortion. It's not for me.”
Derek, while I realize you are advocating for those that do in deed kill their children and the right to do so. I also recognize that you have enough intelligence to think through the issue at least personally and arrive at truth.

Take care
Chad

Chad, have fun forcibly holding down women and girls for 9 months if for whatever reason they choose to have an abortion. That reason being none of your business. The law will never change, and if it did, we would have a much bigger mess to deal with. But it sounds like oppressing a woman's right to choose, anything, is right up your alley.

And are you kidding me about slavery? Really? I'm talking about the freedom to choose. Slavery = oppression. Making it illegal for a women to choose what she can do with her body = oppression.

How about I blame the anti-choice crowd for blindly voting and tipping the scales in favor of GWB, causing the death and displacement of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis? You have blood on your hands. Think of all the lives you would've saved? I understand they wern't white babies, and probably not on your radar.

Pascal, I'm not going to get into name calling like you. I'm pretty okay with knowing I probably have a richer life, without anger, filled with love. You come off as a sad, lonely, angry person. Good luck with the internet and your winning personality. It's totally working.

Just like every other time the anti-choice crowd (everyone is pro life) gets one of their saviors elected, they are quickly forgotten when that person gets into office. You're being duped and used. I saw one "conservative" ad on TV that said "faith and family guide me... bla bla bla, guns, farm, church, white people". Remember, guiding faith sent some planes into our buildings and our sons and daughters into harm's way. I'm voting for the smart guy, not the one that makes decisions based on ancient text.

Nobody likes the idea. Nobody likes the topic. It's your choice to make that decision. If I was a woman, unless it was rape or some health-related issue, I would not get an abortion. It's not for me. But I understand why it's needed, I understand the alternative is worse, and I understand not everything is black and white.
