So Will He Or Won’t He?
Here’s Dan Coats statement on challenging Evan Bayh.
After much thoughtful consideration, I have authorized my supporters to begin gathering signatures as I test the waters for a potential challenge to Evan Bayh in 2010. Over the next few weeks, I will be talking to Hoosiers from all walks of life, and I will make a formal announcement regarding my intentions in the near future.
So is he running or not running?

Funny how people smirk about Coats ‘not living in Indiana.’ Once they get to Congress, none of them really live here anymore. It’s kind of like Abdul being an Illinois ‘resident.’

He'll run if his secretary downloads a map of Indiana to remind him where voting Hoosiers live … his supporters gathering signatures will have to leave Wall Street and Washington DC and travel the highways and byways north and south of Indianapolis from the Ohio River to Lake Michigan.

He would do a better job on the Senate Banking Committee than Mr. WeatherVane. As I recall, WeatherVane didn't have any Indiana connections at all when he rode his father's infamous name into the Secretary of State office (does birch still owe people money for his failed campaign for President)? As Republicans elect Evan, they might wake up in time and vote in a real Republican instead of the “talk like a Republican every 6 years” fakir.

He can't be more out of touch with Hoosier voters than our whore, sellout Senator Evan Bayh.

He can't take too many weeks to decide. Filing closes in about 2 weeks. Maybe he is talking about running for Senate in Virginia. I don't think they have a senate election this year. Who knows what he is talking about.

This establishment stuff has given us coupon quality, resume's & advanced degrees of shingles; Constitutional vertigo. How 'bout new blood?
February 3rd, 2010 at 11:31 pm
…..but then again…..how about some fresh faces?
February 4th, 2010 at 2:21 am
Coats ain't no fresh face, Rico! He's a Bush retread. Yikes!
February 4th, 2010 at 2:59 am
I thought he was dead. Not being disrespectful, but talk about being out of the Hoosier loop for a decade. I'll bet more hoosiers know Joe Biden than Dan Coats.
In an election, I think Evan will eat him for lunch. Mark my words.
February 4th, 2010 at 3:22 am
uh..I know all about Dan Coats. My point is I'd prefer Dan Coats over Evan Bayh (hell, I'd prefer a bucket of sand over Bayh), but I would rather see some some fresh, conservative faces in the running.

Huh??????
February 4th, 2010 at 3:50 am
Don't mind Dave's occasional LSD flashbacks. He means well.
February 4th, 2010 at 3:53 am
Evan won't 'eat the lunch' of any well-funded, conservative candidate. But I agree that Coats has been on the sidelines too long to generate the needed energy required.
February 4th, 2010 at 10:38 am
For once Rico is right.
If ANY Democrat who fits Coats's credentials and history, even thought about running for Indiana statewide, office, certain neocon rightwingers would go ballistic.
The residency thing is a huge issue. Legal or not, he's lived, voted and paid taxes out of Virginia since at least 1998? Hmmmmmmm.
February 4th, 2010 at 11:16 am
I, personally, was hoping Abdul would run against Bayh!
February 4th, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Merely a flashback of the obvious; it's an incumbency problem (not a “Coats” problem). The PEOPLE's seats have conformed to the buttocks of those sitting for far, far too long; connected to the position & disconnected from those they represent.

“Daniels 'startled' by Coats' candidacy”
Kinda like Helen's? LOL
February 5th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
I suppose Dumbocraps could repeat the residency issue arguement that the dopey R's did with Evan's first race (found out that it had no traction at all and was a losing issue and waste of time and money). And, for good measure, I doubt that TA could name five names that anyone had ever heard of that would be “ballistic”. Calling him out and let's see if he is any better than Obama being caught in a lie. Five (5) (Indiana?) neocon rightwingers….coming up?
Coats, by the way, will nearly certainly mean Speaker Bosma.

While Ruth is not exactly a spinmeister, her blog is worth reading as she calls em as she sees em. While I don't share her opinion of Dan Burton, who towers over his pygmy opponents, I do share her opinion here, “Ditto on the increasingly uphill battle faced by Sen. Evan Bayh, who is a Dem in name only. But then, that's what Hoosiers apparently want. As (Dem) friends have said, we don't have real Democrats in Indiana. Bayh has played off the state's conservatism and frugality for far too long; he should switch parties if he wants to stay in. But for now, the sentiment is: Kick all the bums out. Bye Bayh.”

Here's a hilarious YouTube video about Washington lobbyist Dan Coats trying to hoodwink good Hoosiers like “pascal”

February 5th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Comin' right up, Pascal: Five neocon rightwingers who would go ballistic if an out-of-state Dem tried to run statewide:
Al Hubbard, Pat Miller, Cindy Noe, Scott Schneider, the lite Gov (if someone could point her in the right direction), Buyer, Hostettler, both nutty Burtons, Sen. Young, Field Marshall Rokita…oops, that's ten.
You really didn't understand the point, did you, poor fella? Slow down and read it again.
Your Speaker Bosma call-out sent a shiver up my spine. Ironically, if the statewide GOP Senate candidate does better than the knuckleheads currently running, it could help down-ticket races. So, by sheer accident, Pascal may be right.
Anyone can stumble into the right answer once in a while. Bling squirrels find acorns, too.
Oh Lord now he's going to go off on Acorn….

**Blind squirrels
(with or without bling)

It is pretty easy to fact check this list of eleven names (not ten-so you owe me the first $10-donate it to Haiti). I don't think you should be able to count Hostettler since his reason for opposing Ambassador Coats, or Senator Coats are more obvious. I will have opportunity to ask as many as four of your candidates for neo con sainthood if, in fact they are as you describe. Wish you had not retracted the bling squirrel-I was kinda getting used to it. When Coats gets organized and has his financial contributions posted on-line as they occur do you wish to make a side bet about whether or not Mr. Al Hubbard won't be on the list? As another side bet, I would wager that the amount Al will donate will be in the five figures. At this rate, TA, you might get a plaque from Haiti, as well as an IRS deduction. And, how does it feel to be in that barrel with the other fish being shot down?
Sheer accidents? Indiana is in serious trouble and Speaker Bosma will rise to the task.
