If these allegations are true, then he's as bad as any Beltway whore and should be held accountable.

I do find it interesting that CBS made Buyer's opposition to Barry's healthcare agenda an issue. Where's the CBS story on John Murtha, Maxene Waters, and so many others? Both sides have scoundrels. There is a stark difference in how the parties treat their scoundrels. If Buyer was a Dem, Nancy would be offering him a committee chair at about this time.

C BS ? I didn't know that folks bothered with them after Dan Rather's serial lying. Murtha? Now, that would be a story, moreover, with an Indiana connection-assuming the corruption isn't buried. NBC also has an Indiana connection, the law firm locally who caught them lying about gasoline tanks catching fire? MSM has a lying problem not only of commission but like the local rag, by omission.

As a constituent of Buyer, I have to say that he generally represents my position in Washington. I really don't care if his foundation is getting money from industries that benefit from his common sense approach to legislation.
This is why I voted for him, and I imagine why so many of my fellow citizens keep voting for him.
    Stop the witch humnt.

Rico is right–Murtha, Maxine, et al are just as guilty, if the allegations about them are true. Congressional nonsense knows no party bounds.

By the way Rico, it's Speaker Pelosi. And President Obama. I held my nose and showed respect through eight years of Pres. Bush's idiocy and the Speaker Hastert ethics nap. That lardass gave fat wrestling coaches everywhere a bad name. You can and should do the same.

Buyer has been a whore since the start. Remember the “callup” to active duty shortly after our illustrious Iraqi war began? He took to the well, to announce that his reserve status had been changed to “activated,” and he'd be leaving within a few days.

He got a hearty cheer, backslaps, and attaboys all around.

Only problem is, those orders he bragged about, never originated, never came…he was grandstanding in our national testosterone-driven rush to war.

Which greatly dishonored the uniform he wears, and those who actually did serve. And die. Or, perhaps worse yet–those who were maimed, and sent home to inadequate VA medical funding, whose budget cuts Buyer tried to oversee as a subcommittee chairman.

He is smarter than Dan Burton, but equally-ethically-challenged. A disgrace to Indiana.

Thankfully, I think he's about done. I believe his district will pull the plug, one way or another.

I almost buy the “raise a million before awarding scholarships” routine. It makes basic non-profit sense, to raise enough money to have the annual interest earnings fund scholarships, so the principle is never touched.

Except, it appears the only donors were folks who were currying favor by side-stepping campaign finance laws and donating to their whorish Congressman's favorite charity. And employing your own kids is just ridiculous.

The story doesn't mention that as soon as the media started sniffing around this, the foundation let his son go, and he “found” a job with the pharma lobbies in DC.

Why is anyone surprised about this. Buyer is a POLITICIAN. You don't really expect honesty and integrity out of politicians, do you?

  6. Think Again

    Uh, yes, i DO, Aires.

  7. Rico

So it's respectful to call Hastert a lardass as long as it's Speaker Lardass? What a joke! I will address Nancy and Barry as I please.
Neither one deserves an ounce of my respect and neither will receive it. They have brought such shame to their respective positions, I'm not even sure the positions themselves deserve respect anymore.

  8. chazzone

Indy Aries is correct. Buyer is a politician, and anyone who expects something different is naive.
I have also yet to see anything that Buyer has done that is contrary to the best interests of those who elected him or harmful to our district, so unless you can show something of the kind, then get off his back.

He has resisted signing on to any significant tax reform legislation unlike Pence, Burton and (formerly) Sodrel.

He's also pretty much part of the big government cabal under GWB that accomplished absolutely nothing in the area of smaller, loss costly, less intrusive government.

    From WikiPedia:

On March 20, 2003 the following letter from Buyer to Representative Hastert was included in the Congressional Record: “Dear Mr. Speaker: I have been called to active duty in the United States Army. Pending further orders, I request immediate indefinite leave of the United States House of Representatives to accommodate my military duties. Respectfully, Steve Buyer, Member of Congress”[4] Buyer was granted a paid leave of absence, which he spent in his home in Monticello, IN, according to the Gannett news article. The Department of Defense filled the requirement for a JAG officer with someone else.

I took exception to one of his staff smirking through a tax reform presentation a few years ago that ultimately resulted in Mike Pence signing on. Good enough for Pence and Burton, wayyyy more than good enough for Buyer.

  10. chazzone

I'm not saying that Buyer is my dream rep., only that this is just a political assassination job, and he does vote the way I want on most issues.
I'd love to have someone who represented 100% of my views, but I haven't met too many anywhere. let alone politicians.
Give me a choice, that will support the Fair Tax, the War on Islamic Fascists, legalize Marijuana, open the Arctic and continental shelf to oil exploration, support nuclear energy, and eliminate intrusion in my personal life, and I'll be happy to jump on board.

Right now, I'm satisfied to hold the line against Pelosi.
