I'm just as puzzled as you, Abdul, regarding the crime grants. But consider this regarding the “Family” Court:

Many potentially huge future problems, that could lead to criminal court, are prevented, averted or sidetracked in FamCourt.

Statistically, during tough economic times, the FamCourt's caseload skyrockets. And the complexity of its cases increases, too.

They do good work in that court. Sometimes, problems averted can save untold grief (and sometimes nonsense) in our overall court system. A Triage Court.,

DIRTY Politics in Public Safety!!!

IFD recently merged with the Perry Township Fire Department in what was lauded as a great accomplishment for the city of Indianapolis. What you don’t know is that there was a secret deal brokered with former Public Safety Director Scott Newman, outgoing Chief of Staff Paul Okeson, and current Perry Township Trustee, Gary Coons. Here are the details:
1. Gary Coons informed Paul Okeson and Scott Newman that if they promised him a job in the current administration that he would guarantee them that the merger for PFD would go through no matter what. The promised job was that he would be the Director or the Deputy Director of Emergency Management since there were two vacant positions. All parties agreed that was acceptable.
2. Jim White was given the position as Director of EMA and stated he did not need a Deputy Director and has said to multiple sources that he does not want Gary Coons even if he did get a Deputy Director.
3. Gary Coons was upset and felt betrayed and he confronted Newman and Okeson about the deal they had made. Newman and Okeson informed Coons to apply for the now vacant position of Director of Public Safety saying he would have an influential position in the administration as the Director. Coons applied for the position along with several hundred other applicants.
4. Recently PFD merged with IFD and Mayor Ballard held a town-hall meeting at the PFD Station on September 5, 2009 to discuss the benefits of the merger. Gary Coons who was present at the meeting was rumored to have had a conversation with acting Director of Public Safety Mark Renner about a new job. Several individuals overheard Renner and Coons talking about his new position and his start date. No one knew what position they were talking about.
5. On the week of September 7th Gary Coons started a new position with the Department of Public Safety as the Department of Public Safety’s Liaison. His salary is over a staggering $70,000 per year all while he is STILL the trustee of Perry Township!
a. The job was NEVER posted on the city’s website.
b. His role is very vague and he is not connected will enough to be a liaison for the city according to associates of Coons.
c. He is still earning a salary of $40,000 as the trustee in addition to his new salary and has said he does not intend to resign.
6. Renner is attempting to become the Director of Public Safety and has been informed by Okeson and Newman that they would push for him to become the new Director on the condition that he promotes Coons as his Deputy Director.
What happened to the Mayor’s promise of being “transparent” and NOT playing the usual political games that others played?
P.S.- Current Director of Re-Entry Khadejha Muhammad is being replace by Marion County Republican Party Chairman, Tom John’s girlfriend’s –best friend, Rhiannon Williams. Rhiannon Williams is the current director of Pace-OAR and has been said by many to publicly express her dissatisfaction with Khadejha Muhammad and that she would do a better job in that position. Muhammad was recently applauded for her outstanding work by Tony Dungy on national news. The sad part is that all of this was orchestrated by none other than…Paul Okeson and Scott Newman. I guess we all know who runs the administration and will be picking the new Public Safety Director for the Mayor….oh wait they already did pick him and the Mayor just doesn’t know that it’s none other than…Mark Renner

None of the above surprises me, EXCEPT: Newman's role. I've known him for years, and this doesn't sound like him.

It sounds like Okeson. But not Renner.

This is what happens, though, when you have a stale township government system that exists largely to line the pockets of certain favored persons–of both parties. In Washington Township, they're flush with cash, don't have a fire department any more, and still raised more than they needed, despite $4 million left over from last year.

It's shameful.

If you only new the truth….Coons was never promised a job in Public Safety. Coons never stated that to Okeson nor Newman. If you remember right, Coons started merger talks with the Peterson Admin. Coons also helped write legislation to eliminate his job. You sound like someone from EMA…. I wonder. He is also working on a replacement for the trustee position. You need to find the facts before talking. Maybe Coons is a threat to White (whoever that is). Is White even listed as a government official or an teacher at IUPUI?

You need to call Coons, I worked for him and he is not one that is corrupt. He is thee only politician I have ever seen try to eliminate his job as an elected official. We need him and his abilities. IF you only knew the truth and what Coons brings to the City, then you would never posted what you posted. He is very honest and dedicated public servant.

Did you know Coons also worked to pass the first legislation that added Parkinson's Disease to the Police and Firefighter's Presumptive Law? Oh, and he is working with other states to do the same. Oh and working with other groups on research and better protection not only for Police and Firefighters, but the Public.
Oh, he has suffered from this horrible disease sense the age of 33 and is trying to raise 3 young children and still serve the public. Oh, the only politician that has worked to eliminate his elected office.

Oh, his talent in planning and development goes well beyond most out there, including what sounds to be your boss or may it is you (White).

The Feds and many other organizations are very supportive of Coons and his abilities to make things happen!! His energy and ability to communicate go well beyond anything I can use you would ever be able to accomplish.

Oh, he is trying to work to find a replacement and I know that there were NO PROMISES or NO REQUEST WERE MADE BY COONS.

For a Yale Grad, you need to go back and take a research course. If this stays up, don't be surprised by people unleashing on you for not telling the TRUTH!!!!! Do you work for White or are you White?

His “inner cabinet” at the end of his term as prosecutor was one of the worst. Most had run ins with the police at one time or another.

He always showed up at the hospital when we were hurt and called days after. FTFD firefighters were hurt during hose testing, eventhough Gary did not represent nor work with them, he was one of the first to the hospital.

He tought how to believe in ourself and understand that our families come first. He also tought that the people we serve, no matter what income, back ground or any make deserve to be treated very high regard.

I know Gary Coons to be of high morale value! He really is one of the best of the best in Government and deserve whatever promotion or position! We need him. He is also has friends and people who support him from all sides of the aisle, Republicans, Democrats, and all other parties.
