Palin-Tology
To be honest, I never fully got Sarah Palin. Now all you anti-Obama people can go into your usual rants but I frankly could care less this morning.
However, when she announced she getting out of politics, for now, I was scratching my head because her reasons weren’t adding up.
She complained about the media, what politician doesn’t? Complaining about the media is like complaining about the weather. You can talk about it, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
She complained that the ethics investigations she had to fend off were bankrupting her family. No offense but if Sarah Palin can draw crowds of thousands at the drop of a hat, why would she have trouble raising money for a legal defense fund, absent an Alaska law that makes that impossible?
If she had higher office aspirations, I don’t see how she gets through a field of tough Republican challengers who are going to pounce on the fact that she quit before finishing her term and that if she abandoned the voters of Alaska because life got too tough, then what would she do if she got elected to the Presidency.
Like I said, I’ve never been a big Palin fan because I thought there much better GOP women candidates who could have run with John McCain, however if she’s pulling a Nixon, maybe we won’t have her to kick around anymore.

I never got obama either. But there you have it. I noticed today that GM's bankruptcy is proceeding. However in April 2009 obama said the government shouldn't be running an auto company and he didn't want to. Yet if the bankruptcy plan goes forward the government will own some 60% of the new gm.
Lastly since you're such a big obama fan, aren't you upset as a senator he “abandoned” the voters of ILL?

I am going to miss Palin. She gave so much fodder to late night comedians and to the Democrats. Her bizarre behavior, her erratic statements delivered in a botched style of English that has never been seen on the national scene before and her trailer trash family dramas just kept coming and coming and coming. Bring back Palin. I agree, Abdul, that if McCain had wanted a female VP that the GOP has several good candidates that would not have created the circus that Palin and her family did. Even the republican party in Alaska doesn't like her.

Who were/are these “good” R women candidates? Fact is, Palin is sui generis. That you don't comprehend what she is up to is a nice piece of humility. Dave LETTERMAN at least had the class to repeatedly apologize for his being an ass on late night television-alone of the multiple POS late night “commedians and Democrats”.

Palin to RNC: “If you don't do something 'bout these investigations, I'm telling EVERYONE 'bout our little “agreement” to help make sure the GOP loses the election!”
RNC1: “Oh crap – can't we just find someone to get rid of her?”
RNC2: “Too risky – the public will be all over it and we have no control over the local coroner. There'll be too many questions.”
RNC1: “Well, maybe we can offer her a deal. I'll call Rahm and tell him to call off DoJ. You tell her that once DoJ backs off, she's got three days to resign and announce that the media pressure is too difficult on her family.”

OK Pascal, I'll bite. What is she “up to”?
And, I posit that classifying her as sui generis is because she is peculiar, not just unique.
In my opinion, she can use the ESQ. acronym after her name from now on, Egregiously Superfluous Quitter.

The “who doesn't like him / her” lobby is always fun to watch. Is O'Carter destined to write a last ditch legacy saving piece; his own McNamara-styled mea culpa, “Missing The Point Of America,” perhaps subtitled “Off Course On A Charter of Negative Rights.” Amicable is a perfect ingredient for socializing, but not necessarily policy-making. To like him / her, isn't necessarily to vote for him / her.

Dave, I read that three times, and I don't have a clue what you're saying.

I watched Palin's news conference on CNN, and it was even more babble than usual. I mean, all I got was that she was resigning as Governor and whining about those nasty, persistent ethics investigations. I could not even tell if she is getting out of politics altogether or just lowering her profile so as to give her political enemies (including a pile of Alaska Republicans) less to shoot at.
I have seen Hoosier city council members make more coherent speeches, let alone from someone who poses as a national figure. Her 15 minutes of fame are up… I hope.

Dear TA: OK, here's an expanded version. Being lobbied on the basis of dislike gets my attention & not always in ways that I infer are desired. O'Carter is an expression of concern, similar to that which I heard someone else describe by way of sitcom theme song, “Welcome Back Carter.” Robert McNamara was part of JFK's (a free market President) “smarter & therefore holier than thou” but woefully disengaged, elite detachment of losing at war planners (The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam); in which McNamara acknowledges the failure of that mindset or setback. While he embodies that which is the very possibility of America; the President seems to be driven by a contempt for the imperfection of that which is our history, in blinding contrast to a messianic misperception that he is the solution, as evidenced by his tyrannical pursuit of socialism (hence missing the point qua ideal of that which is America). Charter of negative rights refers to the President's own words in describing the Constitution; not in its apparent form, but in the way one might also attempt to describe negative or abstract space around a tree rather than its positive & obvious form; the purpose being to minimize or depreciate rather than acknowledge its purpose & existence. The Constitution is not an abstract. Abdul's right, people vote for people they like or with whom they could imagine socializing but we can likely agree that's not a qualifier for good policy making. Lastly, don't take these comments to be an endorsement of big government candidates from either of the two commonly used names for the one & same party.

Dave, I still have no idea what the hell you are talking about or what your point is……..

Dave: thanks for trying. Just one more question please:
Are you the same Dave that calls Abdul's show sometimes in the morning?

Once again….politicians are liars. Once we can understand and agree upon this simple axiom, moving-on will be a bit simpler.
Palin is certainly better looking than most politicians. Clearly, 'looks' are important. I've heard and read – more than I can count – “How good” Barry looks.

Amen, Varan
Extensive use of those volumes, doesn't impress.
(I thought it was just me, but Dave types many words, and says nothing) (Kinda appropriate it's in an essay about Sarah Palin, the Queen of Salad Talk)

Maybe she is putting her family first. I am a Mom and it is our natural instinct to take care of our cubs. I think we would all agree that her family has been through the wringer. I am glad to see her priorities are right for now. How can she go around and talk family values and not live it. She has a young family and a new grandson to help raise. Politics and raising money for an ungrateful party can come later. She has plenty of years left in her life to serve her country.

Dear TA, Puzzled & Varan: Like some-o-yours, certain posts could be considered topical reset buttons. Dave is a zookeeper whose computer & phones are unattended while he pressure washes our cages- you can well imagine the need for regular maintenance.
