Pence 4 Prosecutor?

Now this is interesting.  The rumor mill in Marion County Democratic circles is that former Attorney General candidate Linda Pence is planning a run for Marion County Prosecutor next year.

The story, which has apparently been circulating for weeks, is that Pence won’t be getting appointed to U.S. Attorney for the Southern District.  The way the story goes, Pence has tied to Ed Tracey who reportedly backed Voorhies’ efforts to oust Dan Parker as State Chairman.  Voorhies backed out of the race when there was virtually no support for his candidacy.

And as you all know in politics, to the victor goes the spoils.  Senator Evan Bayh apparently didn’t like the Parker challenge so any opportunity for Pence to be U.S. Attorney went out the window.  Despite all that, the public story, reportedly, will be that Pence was tired of waiting for the Obama administration to make the appointment, so she decided to run for County Prosecutor next year.

In 2008, Pence beat Republican Greg Zoeller in Marion County in the race for AG by more than 63,000 votes, 56,000 of which were straight ticket Democratic votes.

Stay tuned.

NOTE: I just checked my e-mail and got a note from Pence’s law firm saying that she is not a candidate for Prosecutor.  I’ve asked for clarification to see if that also means she has no intention of running for Prosecutor as well.  I’ll let you know the answer when I get it.

  • Think Again

Just when Brizzo starts being a good prosecutor, he decides to leave.

The Pence rumor has been out there for weeks. You’re right. There are other candidates, too.

But the whole Treacy-Vorheis part of your tip is dead wrong.

And, Sen. Bayh doesn’t carry out those kinds of vendettas…if he is displeased with something, he doesnt leave his fingerprints anywhere near the crime scene.

  • ok with me

Pence would be a heck of a prosecutor. She would not be afraid to do what is right and legal unlike the current buffoon that has the office.

  • Flipper

Like maybe prosecute Sweet Pea which Brizzi has somehow forgot about.

  • Shorebreak

Flipper – a candidate for US Attorney who would prosecute Sweet Pea, Peashakes, or CIB RICO crimes? Yeah, right. When pigs fly, maybe. A US Attorney’s job isn’t to prosecute criminals – it’s to prosecute “unapproved” criminals. The same goes for Brizzi. You don’t get promoted as serious candidate unless you play the game.

Shorebreak – you nailed it right on with:

    “it’s to prosecute ‘unapproved’ criminals”

pea shakes are the scourge, but the friendly Republican $20 buy-in card game is a-okay
gambling is illegal, unless the government runs the lottery or charters the casino
stealing is wrong, unless the government is doing it

    …examples are endless

  • Think Again

Just asking, cause I don’t know: are the peashakes still operating? The ones I used to know about aren’t, but that coujld mean they moved.

If she does run and get elected does she get to use Brizzi’s parking spot on the corner at Harry and Izzy’s? You know the one right at the corner in front of the mail box and the fire hydrant? She will probably like that loaded up Tahoe and driver.

    Peace

  • Muckraker

Didn’t Pence represent the corrupt machine in Lake County?

-We do NOT need a corrupt machine politician in elected office here, too!

  • Muckraker

-I can see the signs now: “Welcome to South Gary, Indiana”

Barrister, please correct. Our AG is Zoeller and
therefore Pence did not beat Zoeller as stated.
Also, you may not like Brizzi but he is a good
prosecutor. Unlike all the other names out there as contenders for the office, Brizzi did
not run or fail in other positions or elections
and then decide to try the prosecutors office
if all else fails. To any petty or small minded
person let this enlighten you..these people are
your politicians as usual. Brizzi could have run for mayor and very possibly won but he kept
his word to the public that he wouldn’t. I guess in this brain dead society that means
    nothing.

    Maria,

You may be reading this wrong, but Pence did win Marion County, she lost the state in a close race, but did win here.

    Thank you for correcting me.
