Stop the Bus

My sources are telling me tonight that the Franklin Township School Board is recommending that Philip Leslie, the bus driver arrested for operating a bus with a blood alcohol content level of 0.22  be terminated.

Leslie was charged with four counts, including felony neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle with with a BAC of above 0.15 with a minor passenger in the vehicle.

Sources also say at the time Leslie was operating the bus, he had carried more than 100 children and it was described as a chaotic situation from the moment he got on the bus and the district wants to make an example of him.

If I were the school district, I would be working very hard to settle any possible litigation by parents.

Ironically, there is a public meeting tomorrow night at seven with the school district and Drug Free Marion County on the subject of underage and binge drinking.

Good. I hope they do fire him. How stupid can you be. And I agree I hope the schools do settle any litigation that may come up quickly. Thank God that no one was hurt.

  • Think Again

The board doesn’t fire–the Superintendent recommends it and the baord concurs or rejects the Superintendent’s recommendation.

But if they’re like most school boards in this county they are lapdogs to the Superintendents, so it’ll be whatever he wants.

This district is not known for common sense. They built a hugely expensive football stadium, far beyond the needed facility.

They fall pretty short academically, too.

To be honest, they’d have to screw up a 2-car parade to get this one wrong, tho.

It was the previous superintendent that was the problem in Franklin Township. He wasted and spent money like the Federal Government does. Trust me the school board has more say then the current superintendent when it comes to runing the Franklin Township schools. I suspect the procedures will be changed to have each driver check in before they take off on their routes. The sad part is it only takes one idiot to ruin things for everyone.

  • Think Again

Guy, I hope you’re right…but, in all honesty, if that school board has more power than the uperintendent, they’d be the only such board in Indiana.

These parents should litigate because parents won’t get answers if they don’t. Questions include: Why didn’t the cops (it seems as if there is one in every other house in FT) go get this guy and PULL HIM OVER when the calls started coming in, why was he allowed to COMPLETE THE RUN, and were they really NOT ABLE TO FIND HIM. I have a suspicion that the run was completed because they couldn’t find an answer in those brainless manuals they must consult to decide everything else because no one in academia has the sense to pour piss out of a boot. The guy had already returned, rumor has it, and was found slumped over the wheel of the returned bus. I think even the school cops at that point were able to garner all their expertise and justify their salaries by “finding” him in the bus yard so they could arrest the already past out fellow. Finding out who talked to whom when and what was said while all this was going on will be entertaining and terrifying at the same time.

These may be unsubstantiated rumors but given what parents said in TV interviews about contacting the school, some if not all of them may in fact be true. Families pay money out the butt in FT and they are clamoring for more. People need answers, and I mean real answers, not that crap you get from a school system trying to protect and justify itself. Remember the kids having sex in class at Raymond Middle School and that not being an “issue” until parents found out about it much later from their kids and raised hell about the deafening silence that surrounded the activities of the little tykes? Schools don’t look for solutions (too hard and messy), they cover up (maintain status quo so we can do things that are fun like plan yet another million dollar project we don’t need).

Everybody wants a check, but nobody wants to be responsible and actually earn it. These people throw money around like it grows on trees. Maybe they need to start throwing some at real problems, like trying to figure out who really dropped the ball, how much they’re paid, and how much the school district would save by letting them go, too, and using the savings against the settlement costs. There are more dirty hands here than just the driver’s.

My, my Juno. You are quite the passive agressive. No wonder, with vemon-spewing vipers like you, that things are so bad in our beloved schools.

You could take a lesson from Think Again, who intelligently asserts his/her opinion with a basis in facts, rather than in “rumors,” “suspicions,” or an entertaining and terrifying level of sarcasm.

Now get back to lobbing your anonymous grenades from behind your keyboard. God knows it would be too much to ask you to get involved. Keep criticizing from the million-dollar bleachers. Keep peeking out your curtains at the rest of the world and spreading your gossip, Gladys.

PS: Abdul, you are awesome. Keep up the great work!

  • Juno is an Idiot.

Hey moron. He wasnt allowed to finish his route. The calls came in from the last few stops on his route genius. The report was published on indystar but I guess you missed that huh. No police officer would allow that to go on with out making every attempt to stop it before someone got hurt. The police reacted immediately after being notified of the issue. The report even says the bus was found driving down Indian Creek Rd when the police located him.Make sure your facts are straight before you let your blow hole run crazy.

Ok—now i will admit this guy was stupid and reckless and should be fired…

but DUIs are becoming the new McCarthism (sp?)

And no i have never had one. B4 u know it the new law will be .02 and everyone will be going to jail…As if our country doesnt already have more people per capita in prizon then any other civilized nation…

I guess the “contributions” offered in response to my post are what pass for dialogue these days. Apparently calling someone Mrs. Kravitz and speculating about sitting in million dollar bleachers (?) and peaking out from behind curtains takes care of it. There was not one thing of substance in that post. I agree with Think Again but some in FT would still maintain that FC is a great academic school and we needed that staduim so I’m not sure all would consider those statements “facts”, although I’m certain he could support those statements with some had he chosen to. Where in the world did you get the idea that our public schools are “beloved”? Many consider them inefficient, dangerous, ineffective wastes of public dollars. Some would argue that the only groups that truly love them are the teacher’s unions and administrations given their lackluster performance. I bet you don’t like that debate either. Meanwhile, please continue with the rant while doing the “Be Happy” dance.

As for my blow hole running crazy, let’s examine the “facts”. The only entrance to the bus yard is off of Indiana Creek, which runs between Acton Rd. and Franklin Rd. Locating him on Indian Creek simply means he was well on his way to completing the run. Juno is an Idiot doesn’t tell us anything that should make anyone feel better about the situation. For all we know the police just parked across the street from the bus yard and simply followed him in. I don’t know. Juno is an Idiot doesn’t provide anything in the form of an answer in his post. Conflicting information still needs to be reconciled and questions answered. Just because something appears in the Star, a police report or an official school statement does not make it true or complete. That’s why there needs to be an investigation.
