Resolutions & Trusts

I try not to do New Year’s resolutions, but instead set goals for the year ahead.  That usually gives me plenty of time to meet them, drop the ball, and meet them again by the end of the year.  So with that in mind, here’s my advice for some your favorite elected officials.

Barack Obama – Make sure you keep the good will and high approval ratings you have with the public, you will need it as this economy probably won’t start to turn around late 2010 or early 2011.

National Democrats - Talk all the liberal policy stuff you want, but make sure you pass some center/right of center legislation because that’s where the country still is.

National Republicans – Get a clue.  Figure out what you are and stick with it.  And remember you can’t win being the party of the South and the national talk radio crowd.

Mitch Daniels – If you can balance the budget without touching the surplus, you’re my hero.

Pat Bauer – You’re a smart guy and  can walk and chew gum at the same time, so let government consolidation have a full hearing and vote.

Greg Ballard – Keep being a nice guy, but you still need to leave a horse’s head in the bed of a political friend and foe to show them you do know how to the play the game.

Council Democrats – Get your act together and come up with an alternative plan to run the city .

Council Republicans – Get your act together and come up with a plan to help the Mayor run the city.

The 20 million Democrats who want to be Mayor in 2011 – Good luck in not tripping over each over and showing the racial and geographical divisions in the County party.

Remaining Township Officials – Go away.

Obama conspiracy theorists and bloggers – Move out of your parents’ basements and start dating.

  1. Think Again

I think you hit about all of the hot spots, with one exception, for the (national) Republicans:

When you select your new chairperson, please choose the guy who put out the CD with racist songs like “Barack The Magic Negro.” And keep explaining why it’s “just satire.” No really, do it. We won’t interfere. Promise.

We Dems would just love it.

  2. Silent Bob

I may convert back to being a Democrat. The “Magic Negro” song about sums up the problem with the Republican Party. It is also the reason they only can count on a few of the old slave states in national elections.

  3. Taxpayer 84512

Journalism- One candidate getting investigated as much as the next when running for national public office. Maybe then people would think newpapers are worth buying or newscasts worth watching.

  4. Daw-g

Think Again…I’m Black and have heard that parody song a long time ago and am not offended. Why this form of satire escapes you, I’m not sure. Actually, I do know.
    .
    Abdul…
    >and can walk and chew gum at the same time,
    .
Ummm…you’re way too generous. I’d actually have to see Pat do that to believe it.

  5. Think Again

Bob, your race and mine have nothing to do with it. It begins with good manners and ends with bad taste. The parady is bad on both counts, regardless of your race or mine.

It’s just not funny. But, if your sense of humor goes that direction, so be it…it’s a free country. But if you decide to run for national party chair, your decision to mail that CD to 800 voting RNC members is fair game.

Tacky. Poor judgment. And it says a whole lot about the national Republican ledership right about now.

Insiders say, the trouble is, he’ll probably win.

  6. Rico

‘The Magic Negro’ was a phrase coined by Los Angeles Times columnist David Ehrenstein–hardly a conservative-leaning publication. Once again, TA, your kneejerk opinion is not well researched.
Let us now take a moment to reflect on what the Democratic party has done for the black community…………………………………………………………………………………………….Give me a minute…I’m sure there’s something……
And where are all the African-Americans among the messiah’s cabinet nominees? Holder? Clinton hack that won’t make it. Rice? Her position ‘will be given Cabinet status’. What a joke! You f#@%ing libs have given lipservice to racial equality for decades, yet it is your policies that are responsible for the plight of the American black family. I laugh at all of you who think we will finally see racial harmony under an Obama administration. The man is a race-baiting opportunist who used his pigment to win the Whitehouse. Now watch how quickly he, like every lib, he will perpetuate our racial divide.

I suggest you all read Larry Elder’s column on the history of black Americans in the Republican party. He describes how the black community was hijacked by the dems during the ‘so-called’ civil rights movement. It was during that very era that the socio-economic progress of the black community hit a brick wall.

By the way, Bobbie, how do you feel about Sen. Harry Reid caught on tape with Blago insisting none of the black candidates considered for Obama’s vacated seat get the appointment? That is the Dem party. Like the esteemed Sen. Byrd, they’re all Klansmen at heart.

  7. Rico

    Abdul,
While I don’t subscribe to wild conspiracy-theories, I would ask for your forgiveness for expecting a candidate for President to be properly vetted. This Blago thing is one of many stories the press should have pursued more rigorously prior to November 4th. To think that Obama’s hands are completely clean on this thing is so childlike it’s laughable. Corrupt politicians breed corruption. Once the media realizes that the incoming administration will be far from transparent and open(making Bush look like Dr. Phil by comparison), then maybe they will do their jobs and take a look at who we’ve elected.

  8. Think Again

Rico–I know full well where the term originated. Try not to make assumptions about which you know nothing, OK? You’re missing the point–and, by implication, are you making excuses for that CD’s song? Just asking.

Bas taste is unacceptable, regardless of its origin. It is distasteful to portray our new President in such a manner. Whether it’s racist is for others to determine. But if I were a Republican, I’d be mortified that this Chip fella is close ot becoming national chair.

By the way, I thought it was in equally poor taste for a foreigner to throw a shoe at Bush, too, and I detest George W. Bush. And almost every single thing he stands for.

But our national leaders, even those with whom I disagree, deserve some respect. The “Magic Negro” CD is not worthy of a loyal opposition party.

  9. Think Again

    *bad taste

  10. Rico

It is not the GOP who wrote or performed the stupid song. It is in bad taste. Try to remember that the Democratic party is the party of Clinton, Reid, and Pelosi. So please try to keep a straight face when you lecture the GOP about respect. It is not the person, but the position that deserves respect. Your man is a product of corrupt politics, and, so far, has achieved nothing that deserves my blind respect. Having said (written) that, I will say that the song should be condemned by GOP leadership.

  11. Shorebreak

Sorry folks but this list is based on nothing more than propaganda and BS. National Dems and GOP? Give me a break. Keep fighting among yourselves while the corporatists work together to destroy our country and to support genocidal apartheid regimes. Good luck with that.

  12. Taxpayer 834512

Journalism- Equitably sift through dumpsters for political history of all national candidates, and maybe the public will again find newspapers worth buying and more than a couple of newscasts worth watching.
    .
Libertarians- Capitalize on this collective societal nadir with “time to let the grown-ups talk” on economics, governnment, and outside influence
    .
Child “Welfare”- Transition subsidized childbirth tax dollars to child protection, so American parenting reembraces the obligations of forethought and responsibility for the fate of children.

  13. Think Again

Wow, Shore. Did you sleep witih a dictionary?

You’re gonna hurt yourself carrying around big words that you misuse.

  14. Shorebreak

Big words, TA? Is that how you justify dismissing them so that you can sleep at night? Maybe you can tell me which “big” words I just added to your vocabulary so that I can help you with your comprehension – by expanding on the definition provided by Merriam-Websters website.
    .
I’ve re-written my last post (below) to help you comprehend:
    .
I’ll apologize in advance people, because the above points are founded on distortions and lies. Democrat and Republican National Party? If you’re still buying that line of bull I’ve got some great oceanfront property for you in New Mexico. But if that’s the way you prefer to see your world, just allow yourselves to continue being divided by lying media and complicit leaders. They need to keep us divided if they want to achieve their globalist finance driven objectives that require our economy to be decimated. And that require the support of nations who use military force as part of a racist and ethnic cleansing campaign that’s designed to make agressive military forces look like the good guys when they destroy civilian populations.
    .
So TA, now that I’ve said the exact same thing using smaller words, do you have any “misuse” corrections for me?

  15. Paul K. Ogden

I am a little bothered by the advice to Mayor Ballard. Are you really condoing retaliation against Republicans who don’t support the Mayor’s Office being overtaken by law firms and lobbyists who don’t care one bit about the Mayor’s political future but are using their positions to the line their and their friends pockets?

I’m sorry, but being Republican doesn’t mean you throw away ethics and turn a blind eye to embarassing conflicts of interest, both of which Mayor Ballard ran against, I might remind you. I want my council members voting the right way and if that means they are not always 100% in support of the Mayor, well so be it. As far as the horse’s head you can stick that… okay, I better stop here.

  16. Think Again

    SMart post Paul. Excellent points.

No, Shore…your smaller words make no difference. The bigger words were not foreign to me at all…just a tad pretentious in a blogpsot. You’re just as baffling as you were with big words. So, when in doubt, eschew the big words, huh?

  17. Silent Bob

Daw-G: Since you are not easily offended, “your momma”. P.S. I am a Black (excuse me, Negro like you) person.

  18. Abdul Hakim-Shabazz

Why are you people on this blog at 1 in the morning?!

  19. Sean Shepard

I understood Shorebreak just fine, and while I might take a slightly less conspiracy oriented tone, the results are what they are. I have generally found Shore to be a solid voice of non-partisan reason in many a comment section.

Oddly, I also often agree with Think Again on some things. Interesting to see you two go at it but I’m going to side with SB on this one.

From my perspective, the bigger government is and the more it is involved in, the more limiting the choices of the people which creates vast opportunity for corruption, self-dealing and government monopoly over certain activities.

We should all take exception to know-nothing political officials who maybe have law degrees but know nothing of economics or sociology and who have never worked, outside of law, in the private sector directing all of our public policy.

We should all take exception to people trying to leverage government influence to make partner at their respective law firms or enrich big contributors.

I really, really like Mayor Ballard but agree that he could do himself a favor by getting more of the people that supported him involved instead of those that are considered the Republican power elite.

And the thrashing that councilman Coleman is taking now for openly questioning a few things is proof positive that the Republican party is not interested in anyone that doesn’t want to be a lackey to the party leadership and their delusions of grandeur. The Democrats, when in power, are no better and this is why politics is a yucky, dirty game.

  20. Melyssa

Abdul, I’ve been VERY critical of Obama on HFFT blog and I don’t believe he is legally qualified to be POTUS, otherwise he would have ponied up a real COLB a long time ago.
    .
As you know, I don’t live in my parents’ basement. I own a historic 4 bedroom home in Meridian Kessler. And I do date…a hot young guy named Max who is 20 years younger than me.

  21. Taxpayer 834512

Barrack Needs Some Mox, and Open the Box.
(As in moxie & what sits unopened in Hawaii. Apologies to ‘If the Glove Fits, You Must Acquit.’).
    .
No trace of any hot guys in the basement named Max.

  22. Abdul

    Melyssa,

He’s a citizen and legally qualified to be President. If he wasn’t Hillary, Bill and the secret service would have done something about it a long time ago.

  23. Rico

Did you ever think that there’s a reason that Barry is naming all the Clinton hacks to his cabinet? I, like Camille Paglia, ask, “what do the Clintons have on Obama?” Hmmmmmm

  24. Shorebreak

Rico – the reason Obama is appointing Clintonista’s is because they’ve been tried and proven to play for the globalist agenda. Why risk appointing someone who might rock the boat when you can appoint people who’ve already worked overtime to screw up our country? The only difference between the Obama Administration and the Bush/Clinton Administrations will be how the media spins them. Obama will continue in Iraq, he’ll increase in Afghanistan, he’ll continue to actively promote genocide in Palestine by providing military and economic support to Israel, he’ll continue to find international oversight of the US economy, and he’ll do nothing to reverse elimination of Posse Comitatus and Bill of Rights violations that result from bills produced for Congress by the Bush Administration.
