In Case You Were Wondering

I’ve had quite a few e-mails and calls about when the Washington Township Board meets.  The Board meets this Thursday at 6:15 p.m. at the Trustee’s Office at 1595 E. 86th Street to vote on its budget.   That budget includes a nice big pay raise.  The raise would take the part-time advisory board’s salary from $2200 to $3800 annually.

The township board is only required to meet four times a year, so in theory these guys are techinically making $950.00 a meeting.   And remember, the township doesn’t have a fire department to manage anymore.  So there’s nothing like a near 70-percent raise when you have 80-percent less work to supervise.

Nice work if you can get it.

Do they also get paid health insurance? Just curious.

I know one of the biggest ripoffs in this city was the Perry Township Board- they had the same few short meetings a year, and got +/- $2,000 a year but the real paycheck they got, so to speak, was fully paid deluxe health insurance that was probably at least $12-15,000 per year cost to the township per board member- and covered their whole family. The kind of health insurance that other government employees have to contribute to the cost of via payroll deduction, but theirs was totally free.

WOnder if Wash Twp has the same deal…

The board members do not receive health insurance, but I believe all other township employees have their health insurance 100%paid.

  • Think Again

Don’t lose focus: health insurance is only one part of this puzzle. The bigger piece is–their duties have decreased, in a budget-proportion ratio, by about 85%. Yet, theyn increase their pay by 65-70%.

They decreased their pay by some amount in 2007; they’ll llikely argue they’re trying to put it back where it was.

Logic is not their strong suit. This isn’t difficult.

All they are doing is giving us another reason to get rid of township government.

Hopefully I will be running for the Perry Board next time around. That was an issue of major proportion. As Long as the board is around I would hope to have a positive impact for the citizens. Time will tell, there is much to look at down here!

Washington Twp also has a Chief of Staff paid just below $50,000 plus full coverage for insurance and a hefty retirement. She has no staff.

    Part time Trustee making lots.

Amazing! Following is quoted from the WTB contact webpage:
    http://www.washtwp.org/publiccontactlist.html
    -
“Committed to providing the best possible services and programs to the Washington Township citizens while being fiscally responsible.”
    -
    “…while being fiscally responsible” ???
    -
I sent a message to all of them, urging them to step down if they don’t believe they are being paid enough. They are already being paid $550 per meeting.
    -
I guess that serving gratis, in the spirit of ‘giving something to the community’, is absent in Washington Township.

    UPDATE:

Looks like the group email that I sent went off into cyber-space.

    How convenient.

c’mon. if you hadn’t received a pay raise in umpteen years, you would quit your job. these people work more hours than is reflected in the meeting times.

  • Jon G

Are they doing it for the money or because they care about being a good civil servant. Not that they shouldn’t get paid but in these times that much of a raise? Remember Bart Peterson’s timing? How soon they forget.

  • Robert-NW Side

Wow!! WRTV News is reporting that most of the WTB refuses to speak to reporters concerning the vote on the raise.
    -
Odd that public SERVANTS are refusing to speak to the news concerning a matter of public (taxpayer) importance.
    -
6News also reports that most Citizens they spoke to were not aware of the proposed pay raise.
