Political Potpourri

There are lots of little things to mention this morning, so here they are.

  • Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate for President will be in Northern Indiana speaking in Valparaiso.
  • Jill Long Thompson is getting a little bit of traction in her campaign.  A new poll shows JLT and Mitch statistically tied.  This comes the day JLT announced a new plan to help reduce Indiana’s home foreclosure rate.
  • The funeral services for the late State Senator Marvin Riegsecker will be this Saturday in Goshen.  Riegsecker was a hard worker and really nice guy.  I met him during the Daylight Savings Time debate.  He was one of the bill’s sponsors.  He was definitely a class act.
  • Now that the budget is out of the way, expect some major environmental initiatives to be coming out Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard’s office in the next few weeks.
Anything you’d like to add?

What does “some major environmental initiatives” mean? Get rid of the parks? I say that in jest, of course….but what do you speak of?

JLT and Mitch in a statistical tie? BS!

  3. Silent Bob

I agree w/Rico. No way can there be a “statistical” tie……at least on the far North side of town. I see Mitch winning by at least 15%.

I have decided that “our man Mitch” will prevail. But only because the Dems didn’t run anyone with a real platform that speaks to the average Hoosier. Which candidate for Gov. will uphold the Indiana constitution ? Which candidate for Gov. is really trying to end the property tax conundrum and save our retired, fixed income and veterans homes from foreclosure.?? In our state “none of the above” would be a good selection on election day.

I’m not happy, to put it mildly, with the late Senator Riegsecker’s leadership in killing lobbyist reform in the last session. However, Abdul knew him much better, beyond this lone topic. If he was an overall class act, that will be a tough hole to fill in the Indiana Assembly.
