A little piece of advice for the Mayor of Richmond, don’t use government stationary to promote a political event.

On August 26, Mayor Sally L. Hutton put out a news release saying the Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson was coming to town to talk with Master Brand Employees, 275 of which are losing their jobs and some were featured in the latest JLT ad.

The release was put out on City of Richmond letter head, which meant it was taxpayer-funded.  According to state law, taxpayer dollars cannot be used for political purposes.

Now this isn’t Watergate, but if people are going to run on ethics reform, it would be nice if they would tell their friends and supporters to pay attention and do the same.

I heard that the City of Richmond took away the take-home cars from their cops. If this is true, and they didn't get a pay raise of about $5,000, I can't imagine what the attitudes on the police department are right about now.
  • Think ethics reform meets the sexiest image you've seen in 2008. And then go look at it on HFFT.

Hmmm this rates up there with 'Is professional wrestling real or faked?'. Another slow news day! VBG

I once gave remarks on behalf of the governor at an event in Richmond and a car honked it's horn the entire time I spoke. Then..miraculously..it disappeared when I was through. What goes around comes around folks.

    Sorry Bob,

Job announcements are ok. You can even mix the two on occasion, but this one crosses the line.

Does that mean that every time a local government unit puts a press release about Mitch coming to town to tout a new job announcement they are being unethical or breaking a campaign law?
