Oh Goy!!!

The GOP may have finally started to turn a corner last night at the Republican National Convention.  Joe Lieberman’s appeal to independent voters may just be what the Republicans need to stay competitive.

Lieberman’s speech came on the heels of some badly needed good news.  Hurricane Gustav did not New Orleans,  oil is hovering back towards $100 a barrel and the Al Anbar province in Iraq, one of the most violent, is now back in control of the Iraqis.  And despite a media blitz (including the National Enquirer about to get into the act), Sarah Palin continues to energize social conservatives.

Lieberman’s best line was that these are not “ordinary times and John McCain is not an ordinanry candidate.”  He acknowledged the mood of the country but still managed to make a strong selling point for McCain.

The big question now is how will Governor Palin play tonight?  I’ll be watching.

First lady Laura Bush informed the public of positive achievements made during the Bush administration. Why hasn’t the mainsream media reported this information? It seems media has helped to shape public opinion of Bush to drive his numbers down in the polls while the democrats did nothing to help lower the price of energy this year. They left for a 6 weeks vacation leaving the peoples business undone. Democrats spent more time planning a convention to further perpetuate their tax and spend dead end programs we don’t need.

Instead of media focusing on real concerns of the people, they are spending their time looking for scandals like the Enquirer. In November, keep the democrat congress out of office.

    7th: don’t make us laugh.

The Republicans didn’t want this president at the convention precisely because he is such a disaster, in every possible category.

Lieberman’s speech was what it was: just like Thompson’s: red meat, and, frankly, full of half-truths and some downright lies.

Kinda like, uh, Bill’s last week.

Palin will be must-see TV. We’ll see if the Beehive has any sense. Just heard this morning that her famed moose hunts were via helicopter. Now there’s a sport.

I’m reminded of an old saying — “Too little, too late”

Gov. Palin will be astounding tonight. She is authentic and has both purpose and mission.

    “oh goy”???? wtf?

TA, that’s par for the course. If I had a nickel for every half-truth I heard come out of the Obama campaign I could buy a Dilly Bar. I’m sure McCain’s done the same thing, but the cable news outlets don’t really seem to care about him, sans Fox…

    just a dilly bar?

No, the reason Bush was not at the convention, it is a new day, plus it was reported in the begining he would be working with the governors of the coastal states effected by the hurricane. Democrats continue to use the name of President Bush as a negative for McCain, but this is his convention. Al Gore distanced himself from Bil Clinton in 2000 after the Monica Lewinsky scandal. I guess that was ok since they were Democrats. I didn’t see Bill Clinton out front too much for John Kerry in 2004 either. Bush is a mute issue in this campaign, they used that strategy in 2006 with the Iraq War. I voted for president Bush both times and I have kept track of his accomplishements as president even though the mass media has worked against him from the beginning. The American voters elected him to a second term in spite of the negative news. It did not work then and it is not working now!

Just got a cynical thought (go figure). Just when the Republicans need a bit of a bounce, oil prices start dropping well below any projected levels.

Hmppf. If I were a Democratic insider, I’d be working that kind of an angle over picking on Governor Palin or her family.

  • Think Again

    Interesting point, Varan…very interesting.

7th: Pres. Bush was scheduled, for five weeks, to keynote last night. The schedule was altered and he diverted to Texas for Gustav, on Sunday. It is the first time in at least 48 years that a sitting president has not keynoted his party’s convention.

    Facts are a funny thing.

The President is disgraced because he’s behaved disgracefully. 24% approval ratings, less than half of the Republicans being in approval.

    I’d push him away, too.

TA – approval ratings are extremely low for Congress overall, not just for the President.

On a side note: I loved that vid clip of Governor Palin shooting what appeared to be an AR-15A3 (aka ‘ugly black gun’). I’ll just bet that drove the pansy’s nuts!

If you are so concernd about approval ratings, Nancy Pelosy and Harry Reid should have stayed away from the Democrat convention. The approval rating for congress is 9%.

Two more hurricanes cited off the coast of USA.
Smalltown USA carried the votes for Bush and they will carry the votes for McCain/Palin.
President Bush is not looking for votes, but he is helping to raise money for the Party. Today, everyone is not against President Bush anyway.
