The Community That Prays Together…

Several hundred residents gathered today in a prayer vigil for IMPD Officer Jason Fishburn, who was shot while trying to apprehend a suspect wanted for murder.

A number of pastors, police and local officials offered up words of support for officer Fishburn and other victims of violence.

The vigil occurred across from Wishard Hospital near the old YMCA.

It was even hard at times for this cynical, agnostic pundit to not be somewhat moved by the message of the vigil.

However, there is still a part of me that is very Old Testament, and in the wake of the shooting of Officer Fishburn, I have very little sympathy and tolerance for law breakers these days.

  • As you are reading the star tomorrow, you will see many events canceled yesterday because of the weather. Morning rains canceled events today, including a run-walk and a cleanup at the site of a May tornado. Morning thunderstorms also washed out all but the indoor events of Unite 2 Fight: Race against Prostate Cancer. More than 2,000 people planned to participate in the sixth annual 5K run and walk Downtown. Officials canceled the annual Fishers / Lawrence Township Safety Day. The event, scheduled through 3 p.m. today in the parking lot at Menards and Sam's Club on 96th Street west of I-69, was designed to educate people about fire safety and provide other emergency information.

But as we stood there today looking up at the warm clear skies, one has to think that someone may have been looking down on Officer Jason Fishburn. But what happen after this? The rain began again.

Totally agree, but...where is the outrage for the 'common' citizen? A community goes up in arms when a LEA is struck by the violence that they are attempting to stop, but what about the neighbor, aunt, mom, son, daughter living their lives, that are taken by the criminal? Why does it take this for a response from a community? LEA's understand the risk of their duties; the retiree living his life, the women trying to start a new life, and a friend trying to have some dinner....WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE? Just saying....

(This is written with all do respect to ALL victims of senseless violent crime)

You have to wonder. Look at the history of this family. I am sorry for my outlook on this one, but they are pure scum. I recognize that I will have to ask for forgiveness tomorrow in church, but there are some people on this earth you are not worthy of being in the human race. Trash breeding with trash results in trash.
