G.O.P. In G.O.O.D. Mood

Indiana Republicans are hailing a new poll of 1,000 likely voters showing incumbent Governor Mitch Daniels with a 14-point lead over Democratic challenger Jill Long Thompson. Here are some of the highlights…

  • Daniels leads JLT 50-36 percent.
  • Daniels’ approval rating is 55-33 percent. JLT’s is 31-17 .
  • Daniels leads JLT 47-40 amongst voters who voted for the first time in 2008 Democratic primary.
  • 49 percent of Hoosiers say the state is on the right track, compared to 31 percent who say it isn’t.
  • Both candidates are competitive with female voters.
  • Only 60 percent of Democratic voters say they will vote for JLT in November.

The poll was conducted by Bellwether Research and Consulting between June 22-29. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

My own thoughts on this is that while you never put out a poll that doesn’t work for you, it does show that JLT has a lot of work to do to reach beyond her core base of the 30-35 percent of the voters who just can’t stand Mitch Daniels.

And while November is still a long way off, for every day JLT does not move ahead, she ends up further behind.

While you never put out a poll that doesn’t work for you, you can rely on the fact that your opponent will.

    If they can…

  3. good

Was this a GOP sanctioned poll or an independent poll that the GOP really like?

“…And while November is still a long way off, for every day JLT does not move ahead, she ends up further behind.”

Says who–you? What a ridiculous statement to make. Care to quantify it?

Any poll that indicates Indiana is on a right track by those margins is goofy.

Put your own ear to the ground.

I do believe Mitch is ahead–probably by a decent margin. But I just got in from yet another sales trip through Indiana, and lemme tell ya–out there where the rubber meets the road, our governor is extremely, no make that horribly, unpopular.

TA, it doesn’t matter how many times you repeat that lie….it doesn’t make it the truth.

  6. Think Again

    Lie?

LMAO. OK, StatlernWaldorf…stay in the balcony taking potshots like your namesake. They’re non-real puppets.

Get out in ytour real life, travel around, and ask. I have. I think Mitch will win this fall, but he’s not ahead by this much. No way.

Why don’t you follow YOUR screen name and Think Again. Insults are a sure sign that you have no substance. I travel the entire state and talk to many people. Nearly everyone I have talked to has said that the Daniels admin has made some tough decisions but all in all the state is MUCH better off than in the past 16 years under Democrat control.

    It is what it is.

“Daniels leads JLT 47-40 amongst voters who voted for the first time in 2008 Democratic primary.”

Please. All of those Obamaniacs are favoring Daniels?

  9. Think Again

Well, Statler, you’re entitled to your opinion. I talk mostly to Republicans and Independents in smaller communities in my business.

They’re pissed at Daniels. My guess is, about half of them won’t vote for him, but enough will.

The balcony reference wasn’t an insult. I love those characters. It was an observation.

    I agree with TA.

I work in cental, rural, industrial Indiana and my clients are about 90% republican. They do not like Mitch.

I would love to see how these questions were asked.

Well, Amos Brown had people calling in before the election. At least two callers said they were voting for Obama and for Daniels, which I found interesting. Amos asked on male called why Daniels and the guy stated that he didn’t know who anything about the Democrats. One female caller was obviously just a straight ticket voter. When asked who she was going to vote for in the Gov. race, she said “The man.” So she didn’t even know Schellinger’s name. Unless all Dems vote straight line, don’t be surprised to see some Obama people voting for Mitch.

Andy Horning is the ONLY candidate for governor that understands the problems we face all have root in the failure of our government to abide by the rule of law.
    .
Andy Horning is our only choice for Governor for those individuals concerned with the preservation of property rights, 1st Amendment freedom, personal freedom, and gun rights.
    .
And I’m pretty certain that Andy Horning is the only candidate running who understands the constitution and that the governor’s executive duty is to govern the government and enforce the U.S. and Indiana Constitutions.
