Capitol Watch
We’re starting a new project over at RTV 6. It’s called the “Capitol Watch.” If all goes right it will be a weekly public affairs feature on the Internet. It’s a local program focusing on local issues. It’s hosted by me and Jennifer Wagner. We discuss/debate the issues of the day from our perspectives. And we’re working to make it a good mix of policy and political discussion sprinkled with entertainment. It’s a work in progress so you may see some subtle changes along the way to make it a great product.
I think you’ll like it and it will be a welcome addition to the discussion of the major and sometimes minor issues of the day.
Take a look at it and let me know what you think.

What a great idea and a great mix of personalities. You and Jen.
Hilarious. Hope it works!
July 30th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Funny lines as always Abdul, lookin’ sharp as well.
July 30th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Good luck with the show Abdul.
July 30th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Jen better put on some tennis shoes if she plans to keep up with Abdul.
I know a good Mary Kay consultant. I’m sure she could hide those bags that Jen is carrying around under her eyes. What is she doing staying up all night drinking?
On a 1-10 scale
Abdul 9.25
Jen 2.5
July 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Aww, Leave Jen alone you guys. Maybe she’s found out that being a Mom is harder than being Mayor of Indianapolis.
July 30th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
wow sassy, real classy. Compared to her persona on her blog, I thought she came across pretty good. But compared to her blog persona, I think even Wilson would come across OK.
July 30th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Ouchm Jerry…that was harsh. And Sassy–since when is the person’s personal appearance more important than the content of the message? How Reaganesque of you.
Jen’s blog was and is one of the best-written and informative around. You mistake philosophical agreement, with good writing.
I detest Bob Novak, but always read him. He is a tad tottering these days but still one of the best writers around.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
TA . . . think again. I never said anything about her writing abilities or philosophies. I only mentioned per blog persona which came across as a know it all b!tch to me. I was happy to see that doesn’t seem the case when you see / hear her speak.
July 30th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Sorry, don’t count on me as a viewer. I cannot stomach Wagner.
July 30th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
while certainly witty and clever in her writing, i detest wagners arrogance on her blogs and feels she is very deserving of her title as the nastiest woman in indiana (or is it in indiana politics?) when it comes to her blogging. at the same time, she is surprisingly pleasant in person.
that being said, anyone who does not care for her would probably be quite amused at her appearance here with abdul. she doesn’t doesn’t have the presence or the quick wit on air. in fact, she comes off as kind of nervous and out of sorts.
those that don’t like her may get a kick out of watching abdul run rings around her. i sure did.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Since you’re no longer a conservative, Abdul, you and Jen can agree to agree about Obama.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Rico,
I’m a TRUE conservative. Less government in my pocket and my girlfriend’s uterus! :-)
July 30th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Excellent to watch!
July 30th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Sorry TA but the girl should know better than go under bright TV lights without makeup and pantsuit would negate the cellulite.
Abdul left her in the dust. All she did was disagree without recourse or argument.
If this was a debate class she would get a D-.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
I thought the show was good. I do think they put Ms Wagner in a bad table position in relation to the camera. Next time switch the seats around. I think it will be good once she gets a little more comfortable with the gig. I mean she is trying to talk with the king of indy talk. Give her a break.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
bigdawg65:
after ALL that wagner has dished out over the years, why would anyone give her a break? recall this is the person that posted a nasty little video making fun of the governor’s stature. she makes fun of all kinds of people for petty reasons all the time. moreover, i don’t think she cares what anyone thinks about her. she looked terrible — both in appearance and presentation.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
I think she lost her way when she callously labeled a non-partisan group of taxpayers who were protesting unjust tax increases as “attention-starved” and tried to make their very real financial plights seem like ego driven calls for attention.
.
If anyone is “attention starved” it is Wagner and it sounds like few people have interest in tuning in to see her on channel 6.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Some people should be read and not seen. Jen Wagner is one of them. Surely she will get a makeover if she is going to be on television. Photogenic, no. The camera’s were not kind to her. One’s appearance is very important if she wants to express her opinions in person to the piblic. Being live in a tv studio is totally different than writing her criticisms of the opposite party on a blog.
July 30th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Goodness gracious. All this form over function talk. If you are having issues, close your eyes or look out the window. I wonder how good any of us would look under the TV lights???
July 30th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
The guy on TV selling carpeting out in Brownsburg looks like an oscar winner compared to Wagner. I’ve seen mannequins at Nordstrom that wouldn’t be as stiff on camera as she is.
July 30th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Oh come on Abdul,
Why did 6 partner up with her. All she did was bash our Mayor for months. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to listen to any of her comments or opinions.
July 30th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Have fun with the dragon lady Abdul…she is one nasty piece of work.
July 30th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
You people have mighty high standards. Compared to just about 99.9% of Hoosiers she is hot. Plus she towers over Abdul (sorry Abdul, nothing personal). Melyssa, take a look in the mirror, girl. Please take the log out of your eye.
July 30th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Why did WRTV pair me up with Abdul? Because all of you can’t help watching, mocking me and then watching some more.
It’s a beautiful thing, being as hated as you think I am. Good for publicity, too.
Have a great night — and make sure you tune in for next week’s episode!
P.S. Did you really think I’d spent 28 years on this planet without knowing that I’m pale and odd-looking with dark circles under my eyes? C’mon, people. You can do better than that.
July 30th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Hey gang I was only commenting on the video itself not about political views. All I would say is it looks like Abdul has plenty of guest hosts since you all think it is so easy. It’s not.
Peace

More interesting than falling asleep to Indiana Week in Review. The political balance is a little awkward; to listen to one viewpoint more ideologically dogmatic than the other, but Adbul’s nimble and perhaps can make one not care about that with comic relief. Suggestions:
1) Flip positions (as mentioned before)
2) More video cuts
3) Ms. Wagner will have more aesthetic polish and poise next time. Although I’m not an ideological fan- she’s articulate and earnest in presenting her side.
4) Abdul- play bigger, for the “back of the house”. Seems like you were playing for somebody across a table.
Thanks very much for doing this. It was enjoyable.
July 30th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Ahhh come on guys and girls Abdul and Jen will just agree to disagree! Here’s a good subject close to my heart (and pocket book) Community Policing! Your starved for ideas aren’t Abdul. ;)
July 31st, 2008 at 12:04 am
Abdul & Jen Wagner, yeah, that’ll be entertaining alright.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:09 am
She has amazingly great posture in a very uncomfortable looking chair!

“Rico,
I’m a TRUE conservative. Less government in my pocket and my girlfriend’s uterus! :-)”
I hate to break this to you, Abdul, but Obama will go deeper into your pocket than any prez ever has. As far as your girlfriend’s uterus is concerned: Obama will be happy to wait until a baby is partially born before killing it. See? Her uterus is safe!
