WEDNESDAY IN THE PARK WITH OBAMA

Barack Obama wrapped up an hour long town hall meeting this afternoon in Garfield Park talking to Hoosiers about gas prices, education and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Obama said Senator Hillary Clinton’s call to suspend the gas tax for summer would only amount to savings of about 30 cents a day.  He says he’s putting the issue of Jeremiah Wright behind them and focusing on issues like health care and education.

Obama and his wife had lunch at the Beech Grove home of Mike and Cheryl Fisher.  They talked over sandwiches.   Mike Fisher, who considers himself a good judge of character,  said Obama came across as a very likable person and he did not hold the controversial remarks of Obama’s former pastor against him.  He also said the Obamas are not elitists and could connect with blue-collar, working class Hoosiers.

I’m not looking for a president that can “connect with blue collar workers.”

I’m looking for a president that can keep this country safe from agressors, stand up to free-spending Congress, and who will take care of our military. Oh, and has a good looking wife.

(That last sentence was just to throw off the liberals and unwashed masses who worry more about whether a president can play basketball or bowl.)

I’d love nothing better than discovering upon election that the “real Obama” is not tax-and-spend, but instead a surprisingly pragmatic leader, who for the future of our citizenry will reduce our bloated consumption of dwindling fiscal and natural resources. I don’t sense that from him. I know of nothing in his history that supports this dream. But, charismatic leaders who can potentially reap bipartisan sacrifice for the common good are in short supply.

  3. Shorebreak

I’m looking for a President who will protect the US economy and security by ignoring all special interests and by committing to Constitutional government. In other words, I’m living in a pipe dream.

    You and me both!

  5. Buzzy Whitlow

You mean Barak wants to connect with us disgruntled little guys who are clinging to our guns & our religion? Who’da thunk it?

There is only one way to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and reduce gas prices - punch a hole! Pass a bill to allow that and the price of a barrel of oil will fall even before one ounce is taken.

I;ve read that Joe Andrew is going to switch his support to Obama (news conference this afternoon). Look for Andrew to eventually announce support for Woody Myers in the 7th.

  8. MissouriDemocrat

As a Hillary supporter I will forgive him for changing sides if he also supports Dr. Myers. If anyone watched Boston Legal last evening one of the plots was an elected delegate for Clinton shifting sides to Obama, it was humorous, but it also pointed out a flaw in the process. The Democratic Party continues to prove its close resemblance to Baptists, in fighting and more infighting. Then totally tossing out what little political ideology we have left from Thomas Jefferson for a win at all costs ideology.

obama will connect with the little guy(blue collar man’s) wallet. when he raises his taxes. why doesn’t anyone ask the democrats if they are so for the little guy and feel our pain at the pumps….why don’t they open up drilling in Anwar, shale oil out west, and the gulf coast? the shale oil alone would make us energy independent. why don’t they support new nuclear energy plants? I think I have an idea. they want us to pay so much it hurts. then they will have forced cutbacks.

  10. Bob Miller

Does America need a personable, but clueless and socialist, President with questionable friends?

  11. sugar

hey bob, i think maybe we do. that way americans will finally see what happens when this country is ran by libs. how spending for ever little social ill will be out of control. of coarse it will take decades to fix all the laws and propgrams they impliment. we see that we are still dealing with failing programs from FDR and Johnson.

but, we republicans need to get our own house in order. seems like alot of the republicans in office like spending our money almost as much as the libs. all that starts in primaries and local elections.

  12. rmann

Obama’s $1000 tax credit for families of 4 making under $70,000 a year, if it is a refundable credit as most of those do not pay income tax, is 68 cents a day. They are all pandering. His 40 mpg for vehicles is decades away so what is his short term answer? None of them want to make the hard decisions as the poeple do not want to make hard decisions. Indiana would benefit from a federal gas tax cut as we get back in federal revenue than we send.

Obama claims 7 years experience in the Illinois legislature - Working Across the Aisles, Bringing people together to get good CHANGES passed -as exemplified by 26 good bills with his name on them.

A Chicago reporter says all 26 bills were passed in ONE Year.

    http://wweek.com/editorial/3418/10516/

    EXCERPTS:
But what’s interesting, and almost never discussed, is that he built his entire legislative record in Illinois in a single year.

Republicans controlled the Illinois General Assembly for six years of Obama’s seven-year tenure.

Then Emil Jones Jr. (became the Senate Majority leader), He became Obama’s kingmaker.

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

During his seventh year in the state Senate, Obama … sponsored a whopping 26 bills including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.
