8 DAYS AND COUNTING

Indiana House Democrats are offering up a one-percent constitutional cap on property tax assessments for homeowners. The proposal was unveiled today in a conference committee on HB 1001 which would cap property taxes.

The measure is in line with comments by Speaker Bauer earlier this week who said lawmakers may be trying to tackle too much this session in their efforts to reform property taxes. And he wanted to focus on relief for homeowners.

Statehouse Republicans held a news conference Thursday announcing sweeping property tax reforms. However a spokesman for House Democrats said they unveiled their plan in the committee because they felt it was the more appropriate forum.

My daughter (With a major real estate group) tells me that there are @ 30,000 abandoned, foreclosed, pre-foreclosure and distressed properties in Hamilton County, listed at $130,000.00 and below.

Marion is far worse than the 15,000 that they are citing in Center Twp. And, the market price has dropped @18%, not the @7% that MIBOR touts.

I asked her to research Hendricks, Hancock and Johnson. On the surface, it doesn’t look any better in those areas.

When this “fit hits the Shan”, it ain’t gonna’ be pretty!

They are still trying to keep the assessment system going by keeping it in Marion county while all others get reform and dismantling of a bureaucracy. That alone will spell the end of Marion county. Not one word, since the $4 billion “error” called fraud on the property tax payers. No one has been called to account and Musgrave is making excuses and the assessors are still telling us how necessary they are to Indiana. I want heads to roll on this. Do you realize that without the uprising by the public this would have gone unnoticed and they would be continuing on their merry way. Well not addressing this lets them continue on their merry way. Have you all nodded off? Where are the investigators????

Yeah, I can’t believe this “story” has gone unnoticed in the mainstream media. It seems like in the past, news agencies would love to get this into pint/on the air. I guess we can only surmise they have allegiances to behold to. Too bad, once again the taxpayers get screwed.

Mayor Ballard should look into this. It sure would help with his budget cuts to get that money back.

Folks, the Indianapolis media has ignored that we have the money to build a football stadium but not enough to pay cops for some time.

Personally, I don’t understand why the Indiana Republicans are putting up with the garbage from the Indiana Derivative, err, Democratic Party.

I mean, what exactly did Bill Crawford do over the summer for property tax relief? Orentlicher had a tax plan and Bauer or Crawford couldn’t have their own?

Neither Crawford nor Bauer can carry Kenley’s jock on this issue. They should just shut up & listen to him and hope it rubs off.

What happens to the poor when their benefits dry-up? All rank of taxpayers have got to get a fair shake from Indiana - for all of us. Foreclosures and the banking crisis have yet to peak. Pensions obligations are ahead. It would be easier to just reduce all spending across the board short of public safety. Remember Senator Connie Lawson’s amendment to protect the large county townships.
