TWO-WEEK EXTENSION

Although today was the deadline for the completion of the reassessment of commercial and industrial property, Marion County Assessor Greg Bowes says the project will take about two more weeks.  Bowes says Manatron, the company doing the assessment, need a couple more weeks to guarantee accuracy in it’s work.  Bowes says they got approval from the department of Local Government and Finance for the extension.  He also says they should still be able to make their assessment deadline, despite the two-week delay, because better assessment numbers will likely turn into less review time, and the assessments should be done by the Spring.

No more tax shell games. No more smoke and mirrors.

Ball State study says eliminating the roughly 5,800 elected officials recommended by Kernan-Shepard would result in between $200 and $400 million in savings each year.

Speaking of taxes, Wesley Snipes was found not guilty today in his federal income tax trial. He had decided in 2000 to stop paying – the jury agreed with his argument.

That’s crazy. Wonder how much money he spent on lawyers so he could not pay taxes?

  • Think Again

Oh, SHorebreak, would that he could…or any of us could.

That was not the issue debated in Snipes’s trial.

    Nice try tho.

    Think Again,

You’re right. He was found not guilty of conspiracy charges but was charged with failure to file etc. My apologies for jumping the gun.

  • Really

Meridian Maddness is in full swing. Yup. Manatron. Why the 2 week extension? Well folks, the property tax CAPS. Lets go back a bit. Remember when Meridian Maddness (supposed property tax crisis) was in full swing? Why? Why did property tax assessment and in turn property tax bills go sky high causing Meridian Maddness? The assessors utilized fair market value assessment. That is why there was a 22% increase in my property tax bill and the Meridian Street activists got upset. Well Manatron, has been given the honor of assessment, problem is that the CAPS are causing property tax revenue to fall short. Way short. So Guvenor Blade, Bosma and Baur are persuading Manatron to “adjust” the assessment numbers to make revenue. In the meantime, the Elected are eliminating positions and squeezing the turnip dry in order to find dollars to save….And they can’t.

  • Fair and equal?

Whatever happened to the fact that the new assessment method was supposed to be fair and equal?
Sounds like another law suit waiting to happen!

    REMEMBER NOVEMBER!!

I’m with Angry Mob. Make a list and tell us WHO voted against eliminating the mess called “local government” and I can VOTE accordingly. The politicians are mistaken if they don’t think we won’t vote them out. Bart is gone and so are CCC members. Next vote – the state!
