POL WATCHING

A new poll of likely Hoosier voters shows good news for Barack Obama, Mitch Daniels and Andre Carson. The survey conducted by Gauge Marketing Research for Howey Politics Indiana shows each candidate with comfortable leads over their respective challengers.

Obama leads Hilary Clinton amongst likely Democratic voters by 40-25 percent with 36 percent of the voters undecided.

Governor Mitch Daniels beats both Democratic challengers Jim Schellinger and Jill Long Thompson. Daniels beats Shellinger 54-31 percent and Thompson 56-33 percent.

Andre Carson beats Republican challenger Jon Elrod 54-36 percent. The two will face each other on March 11 in a special election.

What’s most interesting is that 38 percent of the voters surveyed say they plan to vote for both Obama and Daniels.

The survey was taken of 500 likely voters with 300 of them in the 7th Congressional District in mid-February.

The poll also showed that taxes are the biggest issue on the minds of voters. In addition it showed Daniels with a 52-percent approval rating across the state, but it was 54-percent in the 7th Congressional District.

The statewide poll had a margin of error of 4.5 percent and the 7th Congressional District race had a margin of error of 5.7 percent.

Since taxes are the biggest issue, people should take a look at the following link:

Don’t see the US near the top of the list?

Now is anybody really, truly, honestly surprised that there’s a tax crisis?

    I didn’t think so.

Andre Carson beats Republican challenger Jon Elrod 54-36 percent.

    Way cool !

  3. StatlernWaldorf

Hey Wilson, given the history and DEMOgraphic in the 7th, was it that big of a surprise?

  4. Dewey

Wait until voters get the second half of their ‘07 property tax bills. Bye bye Daniels!

To Shorebreak, That is what happens when you try to be the world’s cop. Does it surprise you that the United Kingdom is right up there with us. Cut government spending or end up with higher taxes.

Yep. And the polls showed Bart kicking Ballard’s butt. I don’t have much faith in polls.

has anyone seen where this poll was published? i believe i was called for this one last monday. i also received a push poll for andre carson the weekend before.

if carson is so far ahead, why on earth is he push polling and sending me mailers every other day? it seems quite odd.

he may win the special but i think he’ll go down hard in the primary. i don’t know when i ended up in the center of the political universe but i had a orentlicher campaigner at my door saturday as i was trying to leave for the butler game.

even though i have always voted for democrats, i’m going with elrod in the special. i just can’t get comfortable with andre.

  8. Think Again

So, let me get this correct: Brian Howey, who’s right about All Things Political about 25% of the time, conducts a poll…of 500 statewide voters, 300 in the 7th…

Surely, Abdul, you have something wrong here. If 60% of a statewide poll’s respondents are in one CD, the entire poll is askew.

And if you’ve been putting your ear to the ground, you know that Andre is nowhere near busting 50% yet. I think he’s ahead, but he’s not that far ahead.

Sometimes, polls are as smart as their operators. Howey—what a joke.

It seems strange - with all of the TV Ads and flyers and DCCC support and the name recognition Andre is only at 54% ?

  10. Wilson46201

The poll was taken Feb. 16-17 before many voters received the material.

It’s interesting that Elrod is down at 36% - no GOP challenger to Julia Carson ever was so low!

    Moneyguy,
    -
The reason that the UK is right up their with the US is because they also have private banks who have complete control of their treasury.

They’re being robbed blind, just like us.

Remember that the “Polls” had Bart Peterson winning the Mayor’race. If I remember the “polls” had Kerry winning over Bush. So much for the polls.

  13. Wilson46201

Peterson indeed “won” in the precincts of the 7th District: 54 to 44.

  14. Rick

That’s a lot of ignorance in the 7th for Elrod to overcome.

  15. John

    Wilson,
Don’t forget a lot of the Idiots in the 7th are the same people who re-elected Monroe Gray better known as Sweet Pea!

  16. Wilson46201

You tend to lose at elections when you call the voters idiots - but that’s your problem, isn’t it?

  17. Fuzzy Curmudgeon

Funny, though, that Democrats win precisely because they assume the voters are idiots, and treat them that way. That’s how Julia won all those years…don’t worry about a think, Aunt Julia will take care of it for you.

Cradle to grave bullsh*t. It’s not that we call voters idiots, it’s that we’d like them to learn to think and act for themselves, instead of letting politicians do their thinking and acting for them — the latter being precisely what Democrats like Wilson would prefer.
