LAISSEZ LE BON TEMPS ROULER!
I have had a string of good news today. My son’s professional theater career out West is going well. The love life is going great. I have money in the bank. The shakeup at the Metropolitan police department has begun with the long overdue (and extremely welcome) demotion of Keystone cops Scott Robinett and Bart McAtee. And an ordinance will be introduced at Monday night’s City-County Council meeting to suspend the pay of coroner and chiropractor Dr. Ken Ackles until he passes his mandatory state-certified test. Life is good. I’m off for cocktails this evening to celebrate.

Daddy Joe McAtee could help his son much this time! It is a breath of fresh air to see Bart McAtee and Scott Robinett be removed from a leadership roll. They didn’t do anything to boost morale and were self serving. Maybe the new administration will keep McAtee from putting money in his own pocket for performing race escorts. His sister-in-law already tookthousands of dollars from the motorcycle drill team fund.

Bart McAtee and Scott Robinett are both being treated far better than they should be. As for the rest of the changes, they are pretty much disappointing. A lot of excellent leaders are being overlooked and some poor ones are being kept in the command structure. So much for the chance to redo the dept.

FYI… Black Bart is going to be a traffic Lt. The escort scam will continue. Meet the new boss…. same as the old boss….

My mother was a judge in Indy a long time ago, but past away many years ago. She was a die-hard Republican and loved Joe McAtee, but i remember saying to myself when Joe sold out the GOP a few years ago how sad and disappointed she would have been in him.
I remember Steve Davis telling me what a lack of help that McAtee and the others had been to him during the campaign.
Therefore Joe and Bart, what goes around comes around and if you cant remember who your friends are than i hope bad things continue to happen to you in future.
Worst of Luck,
An Old Friend (and by old i mean former)

Be careful Abdul, you are getting a little too cocky and starting to loose your edge.

Speaking of shakeups, when is the new head of IMPD planning on stopping the illegal shaking of the peas?

Amen Shorebreak! I love you man!

En Vino Veritas!
Looking forward to seeing you at the swearing in tomorrow at the War Memorial. Enjoy.

Re: # 5 anonymous,
Be cocky, Abdul. You’ve earned it.

http://indybluerollcall.blogspot.com/ has a summary of Mayor Ballards announcement to all officers on the police radio at 12:01 am tonight.
Looks like there is a new leader in this town.

We will have to wait and see whether this IMPD is good or bad. I believe we are trading political hacks for political hacks. Plowman, Lake, Depew, and Allendar all have much to prove to the rank and file. I am suprised they didn’t make Hunter a Captain of something. He has earned it.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:00 am
And why is there a swearing in ceremony? Is it now law that we have to do this. Or is this a feel good political gesture /stroke the brass look at me ceremony for the white shirts?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Not sure about the other two, but Allender and Depew are solid and good picks. Probably the best choices out of the entire list

I talked to Scott Newman the very day he was appointed about the pea shakes. In fact, I passed the pea shake at 34th and Central on the way to the party that announced Mr. Newman’s appointment to head of public safety.
.
That meeting was on December 29th, two months ago.
.
When are the pea shakes going to be permanently closed?

Le bon tempts?
When it comes to Indianapolis politics, plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose!

The problem with the Pea Shakes is the cops can arrest them everyday, but until Brizzi quits protecting them they will be back open the next day.
I think it is time to put some pressure on Brizzi and his henchmen and get him to do his job.

Abdul, you had a caller on Thursday morning who spoke about a home assessed for a basement that wasn’t there and numerous nonexistant improvements. Your guest (I had just tuned in and am not sure who it was) pretty much blew off the caller by saying how “easy it is to get that corrected…. you just have to go to the assessor’s office and file a complaint…..” What she DIDN’T add was that you will lose at least a day of work to do this during “normal business hours”, and you’d better not expect any cooperation from the assessor’s staff. Then you will wait at least a year for any action, and if you’ve been charged for a nonexistant basement in the past, too bad, so sad. This happened to me a number of years ago, and we discovered we had been charged for a basement that wasn’t there for as long as we’d owned the house (about 12 years at the time). We received a credit for that portion of our bill dating back three years. And it took a year to get THAT credited.
Four years ago, when our taxes doubled the FIRST time (they doubled again in 2007), I spent two days at the assessor’s office gathering information to substantiate my appeal that my two-bedroom, one-story home built on a slab was NOT comparable to a three-story home with a full basement, a carriage house, and approximately 7,000 square feet (yes, that’s the right number of zeros) MORE living space than mine. It was the only sale in my “addition”, so that’s what my taxes were based on. It was over a year before I received a modest reduction in my taxes. At the same time I petitioned to have the two bills I receive, since my home is in the middle of two lots, combined into one bill. That was to become effective in 2006 (remember, this appeal was in 2003). I’m still waiting to see one bill.
My biggest fear about this whole ridiculous dance being done in the Legislature is that many of us will not live long enough for the “relief”, such as it is, to make a difference.

John: every single pea shake arrest that was made by IMPD in the last year was filed by Brizzi’s office with the highest available charges that the facts allowed. How can you say Brizzi is protecting pea shakes when faced with that fact? You obviously don’t know the reality of the situation or you wouldn’t make the statement you did. Do your research before you spout off crap that have no idea is true or not. Take it from someone who does know the facts.

Thanks for that, Local Lawyer.
What we need is police leadership who aren’t afraid to go after the Peashake operators, those who protect them, and those who finacially benefit from them.
One thing that Brizzi could do is to assemble a Grand Jury, grant them access to all conviction/bank/attendance/and public domain records on the Peashakes. Grant them subpeona power to call in anyone associated with the illicit operations and financing.
And precede the grand jury activities by coordinating with IMPD to have raids on every known peashake house while known influential people are on the premises.
In terms of police work, it’s low-hanging fruit. There are political strangleholds that are preventing any serious effort to shut the peashakes down. This is where Brizzi can use his influence and his office to move beyond that, to bring justice to the community, and to remove common points for drugs and other criminal activity, and to remove an illegal drain on the resources of our neediest communities.
So, while the unfettered continued operation of Peashakes is not the fault of Carl Brizzi, his office is certainly in a position to take serious, legitimate steps to shut the entire operation down. We’re still waitng for that to happen.

Abdul, Melyssa, IndyU, Bart Lies, et. al.=
Im so dissappointed that you dont even mentioned the hyprocritical and unethical promotion of Lincoln Plowman. It just goes to show that you guys are the most inconsistent bunch of people Ive ever seen.
March 1st, 2008 at 10:00 pm
PIR,
How is the promotion unethical? Is Plowman not qualified for the job? Was his the decisive vote that put IMPD under the Mayor? Has Plowman ever been accused of ghost employment? You know both Vern and Monroe were deputy chiefs in IFD. Need I continue? No one is forcing you to read this blog. You are more than welcome to get your information somewhere else. By the way, the war is over! Your side lost. Move on.
March 6th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Lincoln Plowman is a hack. He only got were he is by corruption, back stabbing, and under handed tactics. He should be kicked off the council or the force. It should be illegal to be on both.
How could he not be involved in ghost employment yet doing both of these jobs?
These things need investigated:
1. Why does he take large donations from union when he has never had an opponent?
2. What ties does Plowman have with the Middle East? Is he a private contractor for an Islamic terrorist?
3. Why wasn’t Plowman allowed to go to Iraq after he “quit” the council? Was he refused a visa? Why?
4. Does Plowman’s security business have contracts with the government: fed, state, or local?
5. Did Plowman allow a stock pile of weapons to be stolen from his warehouse because of inadequate security? Did these assault weapons fall in the hands of terrorists?
6. What is Plowman’s relationship with Tim Motsinger, Jack Cottey, and others in the Bingo-Gate scam where church proceeds were being skimmed?
