GOOD GOVERNMENT = GOOD POLITICS

One of my favorite films is Monty Python’s The Holy Grail;  the “bring out your dead” scene in particular.  I bring that up because SB 280 (Marion County Fire Consolidation) is back from the grave.  The bill was added Tuesday on to HB 1105, a public employees pension bill.  The vote was 22-18 much to the chagrin of Senator Mike Young. Young was furious at the vote and was mad enough to chew uranium.  Young has never been a fan of consolidation and smaller government.

So the fact that efficient government moved forward and Young suffered a setback is living proof that good government is good politics.  Now let’s hope the forces against change don’t hit the bill with a shovel.

  • Taxpayer 83658

If the characterization of Senator Young is accurate, I hope the next election gives him a a one-way ticket to Chernobyl to chew to his heart’s content.

  • small gov gop

Consolidation does not equal efficiency nor smaller government. If this were true, the federal government would be the most efficient model. When has the President ever been held responsible for the growth of the Federal government?

  • Really

Where Manatron with the property assessments?? Anyone guess why they have not proceeded with this publication that was supposed to out 3 weeks ago after they asked for a 2 week extension?

  • Angry Mob

Here is Indiana’s current “tax cut” plan:

    • Reduce the increase in tax deductible property taxes and shift the entire tax burden to non-deductible sales taxes.

    • Increase the local income tax

    • Reduce no government spending

    • Result: NET TAX INCREASE

The bipartisan government-reform panel led by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard and former Gov. Joe Kernan recommend the elimination of 1,155 units of government and 5,833 fewer elected officials statewide saving $400 million each year.
We’ve got to quit governing like this!

Message from former Governor Joe Kernan:

Study shows that Kernan-Shepard recommendations would result in between $200 and $400 million in savings each year

  • Mike lies, Bill lies

Senator Young and Rep. Crawford need a protest in their front yards to single them out as the reason property taxes remain high!!
