DISSENTION IN THE RANKS?

There are some rumblings amongst the rank and file of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department over who will be Chief once IMPD is turned over to Mayor Greg Ballard at the end of the month.

I’m told many of the officers hope current Chief Mike Spears and many of the top brass will be replaced after the transition and that Ballard and Public Safety Director Scott Newman will appoint a new leadership team.

My sources say the cops supported Ballard because he promised change in the way the police department would be run and to keep Spears and his staff in place would run counter to those promises.

Officers worry that some in the administration believe Spears never got the opportunity to lead the department while under Frank Anderson so he deserves a chance to prove himself.  They says Spears’ leadership was part of the problem under the old system and they want him to go.

Melyssa, honey, you made a "career" out of making men do what you wanted?

I thought a "career" meant you were making good money, supporting yourself...the math and methodology you yourself espoused for that Indpls. Monthly reporter don't add up to "career."

My middle schooler had career day last week, and the dads joked it'd be cool if one of the other kids brought in a dominatrix mom.

Proud Indy...I'm the one who puts her name to her opinion. Since you call me a liar, go ahead an put your name to it. Or are you afraid of me? My bet is on the latter. This isn't my first go round with a coward and judging by how many there seem to be around, it won't be my last.

Frank Anderson couldn't micro-manage a Twinkie. Kevin Murray and Kerry Forestal run that department.

And the soldiers of IMPD never heard from either Frank Anderson or their "CHIEF" for over a year.

Never a word of encouragement, never an atta-boy, never a thank you.

The biggest event those two departments ever had happen, and they had absolutely NO leadership. Wonder why they are still upset?!

Spears was more interested in keeping his job and his $17,000 raise than showing support for his 1600 police officers and 400 civilians.

    Melyssa-

Very few people believe what you say.

Frank Anderson is not a micro manager - he has been micro managed by his staff and his attorney since he took office. Blame the man he has "endorsed" to run for sheriff in the next election.

Ballard will go along with whatever he's told to do because he only consults those who are telling him what to do.

    Go Figure.

It is way past time for flushing out the old and bringing in the new. Ballard knows this, as does Newman.
  • Hmmmm
www.indybluerollcall.blogspot.com covered this last week with a post titled "Status Quo?"

The officers will back whoever they put in charge for awhile. They are willing to sacrifice to make things fly right.

The is no more IndyU , unless you count bizarro Accidental Mayor.

Whatever. The cops will turn on Ballard.

They turned on every mayor this city has ever had. Mark my words.

What are you cops going to do if Ballard keeps Spears as chief? Start a new blog bashing Ballard? Can't wait!
  • IMPD
Unfortunately, Chief Spears has lost his creditability with the rank and file. A new chief has to be named soon to allow the department time to adjust and prepare for the summer crime spike. I’m afraid that if a new chief isn’t announced soon, then we may lose out on a unique opportunity. Outside of Spears ties to the Colts and the favors he’s done for them, I think he’s a good leader but now is not the time for him to be chief.

Hey Abbie, You (or the councilman) bring back INDYUNDERCOVER so we can hear the unfiltered police version.
  • Concerned Citizen
Spears dug his own grave when he refused to stand up to Anderson and his cronies, or at least to say that he would no longer be a party to the political cronyism. He is too attached to the Peterson administration and needs to go away. Maybe Frank can find him a job at the jail.

Aw Dewey...don't think it is as hard being me as is is for Chief Greeson to behave himself.
    .
Didn't you know I used to have a career making sure men treated women with respect? Now it's just my hobby!
  • IMPD grunt
What little moral boost we as officers got when Hon Ballard was elected will be wiped out if he leaves Spears and his crew up there!! Officers were so excited to have a new mayor, Pubic Saftey Dir and hopefully a new chief!! Lets make sure that happens!!
  • Dewey
    Melyssa,
It is hard being Melyssa. isn't it?
  • melyssa
Gotta speak up about the IFD Chief. Mayor Ballard knows this, but I don't think Scott Newman knows. I complained to public safety director Earl Morgan after Greeson called me a "bulldyke" at a CCC meeting (the one we were locked out of).
    .
Morgan never filed the complaint with city HR which must be done when a sexual harassment or discrimination complaint is made by a citizen or employee.
    .
Morgan, Greeson, and Kobi Wright swept the complaint under the rug. Greeson's day is coming. I will trust Scott Newman to take care of this. He and Mayor Ballard can trust me to keep my word that I will not sue the city, since it is not their fault that nothing was done about Greeson's harassment of me.

    Abdul.
Are you hearing any rumors over at IFD as to plans for chief?
  • IMPD1
As long as Bart McAtee, Eva Talley-Sanders, Scott Robinett go, I think Mike Spears would be able to do a good job! Frank Anderson is a micromanager and didn't allow Spears to do what was needed!
  • Dewey
No matter what, when Ballard picks a chief he will honk off half the force. The honeymoon will be over. How does "Ballard Lies" sound?
