LAWS & SAUSAGES
There’s an old saying that two things you don’t want to see made are laws and sausage. Today the Indiana House of Representatives are going to meet as a “committee of the whole” (that means all 100 members will be in the same room) and offer up amendments to Governor Mitch Daniels’ property tax reform plan. You can watch it here. Wieners anyone?

I read at the Star that 102 amendments were put forth. I wonder how many of them deal with restricting abortion, saving unnecessary township assessors, keeping Speedway schools from being consolidated with Wayne Twp, and letting pharmacists be lazy and not do their job.

102 amendments? 102 reasons to retire the lot of them. Too bad for the few who are working hard for real tax reform.

Well it is starting to look like spicy sausage at that…..business as usual.

Oh, this is cute! Below is the disclaimer from the House video archive website. It states that audio or video coverage does not constitute legislative history or an expression of the legislative intent, purpose, or meaning or an act enacted of a resolution adopted by the General Assembly! Hmmm….I suppose only what’s ‘written down’ is the actual legislative intent — regardless of the accuracy of the words.
I suppose that future courts will not be able to use actual audio/video footage to determine ‘legislative intent’ in their deliberations.
What a bunch of mopes.

“No part of the audio or video coverage provided may be used for a commercial purpose intended to result in a profit or other tangible benefit to any person without the permission of the Legislative Council. Except as provided in IC 2-5-1.1, audio or video coverage does not constitute legislative history or an expression of the legislative intent, purpose, or meaning or an act enacted of a resolution adopted by the General Assembly.”

The ‘meat’ of this idiocy begins at IC 2-5-1.1-13.
