I WONDER WHAT THIS WAS ALL ABOUT?

My sources around town tell me there was a big caucus meeting this weekend between Marion County House, Senate and City-County Council Democrats to talk about government consolidation.

I’m sure they talked about what a great idea it is and how they will be on board and support it.  I say this because many of them thought it was a good idea when former Mayor Bart Peterson proposed it.

Most of my Marion County Republican friends have been smart enough to find Jesus and change their consolidation tune.  I hope my Democratic friends don’t lose him and fight against less government in a day and age when local property taxes are going through the roof.

I predict a huge tainwreck with the democrats,
I believe they are looking to which train car will cause the rest of the (consolidation) train to de-rail off the tracks. I know David Baird Wayne Township Trustee, and Lula Patton, of Pike Township is against the consolidation.
There are 24 Fire chiefs between Pike and Wayne.
Salary and benefits are about $125,000 per chief.
Which equates to $3.4 million dollars in salaries, and these guys don’t ride fire trucks or fight fires. They say they assist, or command the fire. We already have Fire Commanders in place with the city fire department. Taxpayers your getting hosed.
Trustee salaries and assistant trustees, and assistant to the assistant trustee, your talking about $350,000 with benefits. We are talking at least $4,000,000 dollars from taxpayers, in just two townships. Lets consalidate NOW!

Well lets predict that my opinion of my own party and the other party is correct. I have been saying now for years that the breakdown of politics is simple. If the Democrats are in control on Monday morning and introduce legislation that the day is Monday, the Republicans will oppose it vehemently saying no, no it’s Tuesday. Greg Garrison will harrang the Dems as socialist for trying to dictate the day as Monday, Rush Limbaugh will play a tape of some Democrat whispering it is really Tuesday and then at high noon, one vote changes and the Republicans are now in power. They will then say, on further consideration the day is Monday which will cause the Democrats to say, no no no we were wrong, it really is Tueday afterall as if some light on the road to Damascus hit them. Greg, Rush, Sean and the rest of the Republican Choir will then all chant in budda like harmony how great it is to be a conservative on Monday.

  3. HB1108

Support HB1108 which caps the sheriff’s salary at the same pay of the county prosecutor

  4. Joe

HB 1108 not only caps the sheriff’s salary, but also requires:
“the sheriff to deposit into the county general fund any tax warrant collection fees that would, if retained by the sheriff, result in the sheriff’s annual compensation exceeding the allowed amount. Requires amounts deposited in a county’s general fund under this provision to be used to reduce any unfunded liability of a sheriff’s pension trust plan established for the county’s sheriff’s department. Provides that any amounts remaining after applying money to the unfunded liability must be applied to the costs of operating the county’s sheriff’s department.”

This is sensible legislation and will keep sheriffs from certain counties from becoming unduly enriched by virtue of their office.

Someone better remind the Democrat’s web administrator that Peterson is no longer mayor of Indianapolis.

Kevin - They are still in denial.

  7. Eliminate the Layers

I hope that there is bipartisan support to eliminate the unnecessary layers of government that cost millions of our tax $$$.

Eliminating the 100+ patronage payroll of the Center Twp trustee, passing the $11 million surplus to the needy by civil service employees, and take away that take-home luxury car along with the expense of maintenance.

We can sell those giant and unnecessary government buildings, and evict the bar inside one of them.

Getting rid of the other unncessary township offices like constable, assessor, would also save $$$.

We need to eliminate the unnecessary layers and save tax $$$.

Wow! I thought that last comment said “Eliminate the Lawyers”! No offense, Abdul, but that would be a fine idea as well.

Last I checked, that bar was a private business operating with a legal liquor license and paying taxes in Center Township. I’d just as soon it stay in a privatized office/commercial building.
