MORE MONDAY MORNING MUSINGS

There are a lot of things on my radar screen this morning. As funeral arrangements are pending for Congresswoman Julia Carson, Marion County Democrats are still as one operative put it, “in a tailspin” over who should lead the party. Civil war anyone?

Also Council Democrats are going to make one last effort to exert their power tonight. On the agenda are two resolutions, one would require the developers of the new convention hotel project to get a “labor peace agreement” in order to get city financing. In coming Council Minority Leader says the measure would guarantee workers the right to organize, but John Livengood of the Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association the proposal would force the hotel to hire union work.   Call me crazy, but I’m very suspicious of this plan. There really isn’t much difference between the pay grade of union and non-union hotel work. So the only people getting rich out of this deal would be the union in the form of dues, because neither the workers nor the company will benefit.

The second measure is a Council resolution calling for a reversal of the public safety tax. Democrats finally realized they could not vote to repeal the tax because they would be breaking the law, so they have decided to go the non-binding resolution route. The point of the resolution is to embarrass the Republicans by putting them on record as opposing the tax. I personally would like to see a resolution that says anyone who does business with the city, but also serves on the Council, would cancel their contract and give the money back to the taxpayers.

I’m also hearing there may be more to the shooting incident involving Indiana Pacer Jamaal Tinsley than thought. Police are investigating a double homicide on the southwest side in the 4900 block of West Troy. 47-year old Anthony Earl and his 18-year old son Michael were shot multiple times. Police are initially calling the shooting was a possible home invasion robbery. However sources say Michael Earl might have been involved in the shooting involving Tinsley, and identified the owners of the truck that was used in the incident, and his murder was in retaliation.

For those who think professional sports are too tame, we may be moving towards...professional gang war.

Here's the difference between the Colt's and the Pacer's organizations. About 3 years ago I took my son to a Colt's father and son (daughters were invited too) night. We got to spend the first 45 minutes touring the dome. We saw the press box and the locker room where Marvin and Peyton's jersey's and helmets were set out for the kids to see. There were numerous retired Colts to talk to, they then escorted us to the restaurant underneath the stands and had three rookies on the team talk to the kids. Then off to the playing field where both the parents and kids went thru various football drills led by Tom Zupancic and the rookies and former players. Two tickets for a game were thrown into the package. My son and I had a tremendous time.
Now lets compare that to the Pacers dad night. Erik Strickland Pepsi night started with the kids and dads sitting on front row at Conseco. The kids were invited on the floor and they brought out two extra baskets. There were over 100 kids so basically 25 kids to a basket. Former Pacers Mel Daniels was supposed to be there but they said he was sick. Some inner city intramural coach was running the lay up drills (with the help of some users) to start the so called clinic. Each kid got to do 2 lay ups. Then the coach talked to the kids about not doing alcohol and drugs for about 10 minutes. During his speech Strickland shows up in street clothes and gives a 10 minute speech which my high school speech teacher would have given a failing grade. We were given two tickets to a game and the kids were invited to go down to the floor. My son was so disgusted with Pacers that he hasn't watched or asked to go to a game since. Need less to say the Colt's have been number one in our house since that evening.

The Pacers are an embarrassment to this city. I just don't care about them anymore. They can win the playoffs for all I care. I will NEVER spend any of my money on them, NOR will I ever take my children to any of their games or events.....not even if it were all FREE! The management/owners need to step up and grow a pair and clean house if they ever want to increase the numbers of people willing to part with their hard-earned dollars to go to a Pacers game! Why take the risk of having our children admire these thugs as their "heros". Disgusting!

Hey "Just the Facts". Are you suddenly feeling alone? Need some love? Time on your hands? What possible value are you adding to this blog? I will take the bait and give you a minute of attention. Now there, don't you feel better. Love and kisses......

I wouldn't put anything past Tinsley . . . he needed to be traded three years ago. Unfortunately, he's playing very good right now and they won't get rid of him. Trade JO and Tinsley while they're still worth something to somebody! The story is missing something though....

How are things going Joe, errr...... Abdul...

Wow. Sure a lot of Indy Undercover style musings today. Any fact for any of that Tinsley stuff? Perhaps you are jealous that there is a black man making more than you in this town? Difficult for your ego?
  • Terry
I think there is more to the Tinsley incident than we know. I would not be at all surprised that he was less than truthful in telling his story, same for his entourage?
    Anyone else feel that way?

I think the Common Construction Wage Law in Indiana applies to Marion County. I've heard that our current Mayor failed to convene those wage setting committees for the past eight years. So, any construction costs in those eight years were done well above market rates-just another rock on the pile for the taxpayer but illegally done if a State Law applies to Marion County.
