AND IN THIS CORNER
There’s been a lot of speculation about who will run for the 7th Congressional District when a special election is called to replace incumbent Julia Carson who has been diagnosed with termnial lung cancer.
I’ve written about possible Democratic contenders and after doing some checking, here’s my list of possible Republican contenders.
Former U.S. Attorney Susan Brooks, FSSA Director Mitch Roob, former Indianapolis Public Safety Director Bob Turner, State Senators Jim Merritt and Theresa Lubbers, State GOP Chairman Murray Clark, former City-County Council Candidate Bruce Henry, Christamore House Director Olgin Williams, outgoing Couty-County Council Member Ike Randolph, incoming At-Large City-County Council member Kent Smith, Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi, Indiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Atterholt. State Representative Jon Elrod has already declared.
On the Democratic side the contenders are still Marion County Treasurer Mike Rodman, State Representatives Greg Porter, David Orentlicher, outgoing Mayor Bart Peterson, Center Township Trustee Carl Drummer, City-County Council member Andre Carson and outgoing City-County Council Member Sherron Franklin.
Is there any particular match up you would like to see?

From a purely entertainment point of view (in no particular order of preference):
Carl Brizzi, Mitch Roob or Theresa Lubbers vs.
Bart Peterson, Carl Drummer or André Carson.
Lots to talk about with those six.

I’d like to see a Race with Karl Brizzi, Mike Rodman, David Orentlicher, outgoing Mayor Bart Peterson, Carl Drummer, Andre Carson, and maybe throw Pat Bauer in the mix. 1st let the existing office holders resign their “Elected Positions” (and do us all abig favor) and then maybe they’ll be “Biddled” by each other in the “Race for Julia’s Place”.
to biddle
to be biddled
I’ll biddle you
Biddle You !!!

Bob Turner vs Sherron Franklin. Good buds go at each other. WOW
December 6th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Jim Merritt doesn’t live in the district…

Why hasn’t anyone mentioned Glenn Howard’s name for the D’s? His folksy, charismatic demeanor mixed with his occasionally unintelligible rants and lack of basic understanding of legislative concepts would make for a seemless transition! The voters in the 7th would eat that up and probably not even notice the change!

Bart is hoping that Hillary chooses Bayh for the V.P. spot. He would then make a big push to replace Bayh if Hillary wins the presidential election. I suspect Bart can bide his time and things shake out.

I would like Mitch Daniels to run. He belongs in Washington.
December 6th, 2007 at 11:26 am
Mitch Roob’s arrogance ensures that he will never be elected to a public office. If he runs, the Democrat will be able to win without having to wage a real campaign.

If Melina Kennedy really isn’t considering running, this Republican is happy about it. She was a hell of a campaigner that nearly got to Carl.
Follow me on this:
1) In a special, you’ve got 60 days to get known and liked. She has to have high name ID, and even though I didn’t (and won’t) vote for her, I like her — she’s a good person.
2) In a special, you’ve got to get money and fast. Aside from Bart Peterson (who she could tap), no one on that list has the ties to all the donors.
3) I don’t see the Dems going from a black woman to a white man. From what I understand, Kennedy has a good relationship with the center township establishment.
If she stays out, we’ve got a better chance in a special.

The republican with the most likely chance to win hasn’t decided yet–ERIC DICKERSON.
December 6th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
Just because Dickerson was the beneficiary of the “anyone but Julia” vote last time around, it does NOT make him likely to win an election on the actual merits of the candidates.
December 6th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
Carl, just so Indy could be rid of him. In DC, he would just be one of many white guys trying to get some camera time!
December 6th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Larry Vaughn vs. Bart Peterson
My bet would be with Larry. Larry might be a good man for the capitol.

Carl Brizzi v. Bart Peterson

Brizzi lost to Kennedy in the 7th District precincts.
Remember: John Kerry carried the 7th by 58%. 2008 doesn’t look to be a hospitable year nationally for the GOP.
December 6th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Brizzi is too chicken-hearted to run, no Newman’s coat-tails to ride in on this time, and Kennedy would have him on her turf this time. He was afraid of a political loss against Peterson, so the coward bowed out. He’s still a coward, but now we’re talking about an office he’s even less appropriate for.
December 6th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
Yeah, because the 7th has had SUCH qualified representation the last several years.
If you’re breathing and can string together 3 coherent sentences, you’re more qualified than the current occupant of that office.

Roob?
He’s got the personality of a 5 lb bag of fertilizer!
December 6th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
All it takes is the approval of the majority of voters of the District. That’s the American way despite the whining of some disgruntled losers…
December 6th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
Thanks for that insight, Wilson. When are you going to get a blog of your own so we can see more? I would actually love to read that on a daily basis.
December 6th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Wilson a person can’t lose if he doesn’t run. Assuming Tacfire was a candidate he lost unless he is Carson.
If he wasn’t a candidate then he is the same as all in the 7th.
We all lost when Carson was re-elected.

Not according to the U. S. Constitution, Ernie. Live with it!
December 7th, 2007 at 7:26 am
Happy, Melina didn’t “nearly get to Carl” in the last election. If you remember, Carl was the ONLY Republican to win in 2006 on the county-wide ticket. If anything, Carl got to Melina. Nice try though.

I just hope that it ends up Jon Elrod, Bruce Henry or Carl Brizzi on the Republican side. They aren’t homophobic like the others.
On the Dem side, please not Sherron Franklin or Carolene Mays. Both of them are also prejudiced against the LGBT community and wouldn’t be a worthy person to carry on Julia’s legacy. Franklin went so far as to recoil from a touch by a transperson during the Indy HRO and then proceeded to scream at that person, “Don’t touch me! I don’t like you people!” Classy, eh? Mays was the only member of the black caucus to vote in favor of SJR-7, a bill aimed specifically at attacking the LGBT community. Neither of them are worthy to carry Julia’s shoes.

Wilson go stand on Monument Circle at noon stop the first ten people that you see.
Ask this question “Do you think Congresswoman Julia Carson has done a good job of representing Indiana’s 7th district”.
I dare you.
December 7th, 2007 at 10:46 am
Ernie, the only “poll” about Congress that counts in our American Constitution is the one every two years in November. Ms. Carson consistently wins those polls, not the little debating nonsense you try to set up…
Face it Ernie: your man Dickerson lost, just like Horning, McVey, Scott, Hoffmeister, Blankenbaker all did too. The voters preferred Carson again and again. Deal with it!
December 7th, 2007 at 11:16 am
Yes, the voters did choose Julia. Dead or alive… they voted… some of them multiple times!
hehe…
December 7th, 2007 at 11:57 am
Racist urban myths are peddled to comfort the distraught and befuddled Republican rank-and-file.
It’s odd that no Republican County Prosecutors or Republican U.S. Attorneys ever brought any indictments about voter fraud in Indianapolis … kinda disproves the tired, old crap peddled by “captain obvious”!
December 7th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
Kind of like how no voters could be found that were disenfranchised by the voter ID law either, huh?
December 8th, 2007 at 7:04 am
Well Bil I guess you forgot your racist posting about then Council President Steve Talley on your own blog two years ago…”I don’t no nuthin’ ’bout no discrim’nashun” You took it off after you were called out on it. Bil just a reminder: Publically mocking African-American who happen to disagree with you using ebonics pretty much discounts anything you have to say about hatered and bigotry now or in the future. Yep your and your ilk prove that racism and bigotry isn’t just for straight people anymore.
December 8th, 2007 at 8:49 am
Stick your head in the sand Wilson, believe what you want.
I hope Carson recovers, but thousands including me will be glad when she’s out of office.
It’s like rowing a boat with one oar with Carson as our Congressperson We are getting nowhere slloooooooowly.
December 8th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Interesting comments. Mitch Roob run for public office…wow that would be interesting seeing Mr. Personality actually trying to have a conversation with someone vs just telling them what they should think….if he run’s the D’s have it.
Actually I like Rep. David O. He was my state rep before I moved and a very smart and good guy. We will see…
But as a question, even though Mitch does not actually stay all night in the mansion is that not the official address for the Gov and is it not in the district?
Peace.
