THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Everyone keeps asking me what’s going to happen tomorrow. If I knew that the Hoosier lottery would not be as large as it is now because I’d have won it. What I can tell you is that I will not be surprised at the outcome. You can make your predictions. I’m off to go see if the polls are going to open on time. Don’t forget to vote.

Abdul, first…. great show in the mornings.

Second. Aaron Haith is not an elected official, but an “unofficial official” just the same. What is going on with Aaron “Beer Bong” Haith?

Any reprocussion regarding the Willie Lynch comment directed toward you?

Is there a chance to have him de-barred from Indiana practice?

  • Mark

Republicans will take control of the CCC…..and The feud between Bart and Greg..well not for sure…..But if Bart wins it won’t be by much and vice versa…..

  • http://www.mikeforindy.com Michael Hegg

Local and frequent commentator Wilson Allen takes several partisan swipes daily on several blogs, and gets swiped back at in return. Having said this fact, I believe in credit being given when it is due as well as criticism.

Today at work while on patrol I saw Wilson walking down the street. Recognizing him from having met him at the Hob-Nob a month or so ago, I greeted him. We discussed tomorrow’s elections, and Wilson politely offered me a Andre Carson flyer. After I said I would accept it if he’d put a ‘Hegg for At-Large GOP’ sign in his yard, we both politely and humorously declined each others offer. In that he had places to go as did I, we parted, and Wilson actually told me “Good luck tomorrow”.

He did not have to do that, I wasnt expecting it, but the fact is, regardless of whichever party or candidate one is stumping for, its my hope that tomorrow’s election is not problematic at any 917 polling sites, nor are there shenanigans committed by any person on behalf of any candidate. Afterwards, let civility reign and let whoever wins govern well and bi-partisanly in an atmostphere of mutual respect and with the utmost decorum, recognizing that the office is always much more important than the person or party who earned it through the voting public’s trust.

Sorry if I’ve embarrassed you Wilson or maybe blew any image, but I truly appreciated the what I believe to be sincere farewell on your part from you to me.

PS-Abdul? I will not be surprised at the outcome of the election too ;)

  • Grover

If Bart wins, he’ll make some comment on how it shows the people of Indianapolis still support him. Instead he should comment about the backlash and how he wants to bridge the gap, right his wrongs and change people’s perception of his administration and the CCC.

But I doubt that’ll happen. I am seriously dreading tomorrow…

i’m concerned as well. the dems have a machine ready to get out their vote. the republicans, not so much. if it really is a statisticaly dead heat, that will push it towards the dems.

i am more optimistic about the CCC races than mayor. there is that rumor about keller changing parties which could ruin that as well.

If the Republicans hadn’t waited until the last minute to support Ballard I think he would have a much better chance. Get your friends and family to vote tomorrow at least . . .

  • Anonymous

Again, at the end of the day, it is not about Republicans and Democrats. It is about honesty and integrity in public service. Both sides have enough dishonor. However, we have an opportunity now to do something about the dishonor on the current CCC and Mayor.

  • Wilson46201

I hope somebody reminds Greg Ballard to vote tomorrow – he apparently spaced out four years ago and skipped out on voting for Mayor and Council here in Indianapolis.

Maybe one of you IndyU guys could give him a ride to his voting place to make sure?

  • arnie

Sorry Mike but there is not 917 polling places. I would think a candidate should know that.

  • mark

Wilson……After what I saw Michael Hegg say about you…..I thought…wow he does have some heart and maybe this will change him……but your last comment….well just makes me sick to my stomach…..

  • GoodOneWilson

Nice try, but “Historian” already pointed this out: “Bart Peterson registered to vote for the first time in March 1988 for Evan Bayh for Governor Primary Election. He never registered or voted in Marion County Prior to that time. ”

Bart was 29 years old in 1988 – that’s a lot of missed votes!

  • Rick

If Wilson wants to talk about missed votes, he can look at his hero, Rep.Carson. Now, there is someone who is concerned about the city in which her constituents live. Does her hanging on to her seat do this city any good?

What you said, Mr. Hegg, tells me something about your character. But you are too kind.
Wilson and his ilk are part of the problem. They put partisan politics above all else. They watch are city decay around them, yet they support those who bear the most responsibilty. The pretend to be a friend of the black community, yet they elevate those who do it the most harm.

I’ve lived here my entire life and have watched this city go to hell. All is not lost….yet. Our problems are not yet irreversable. Wilson and gang still support the folks that brought us to this point. While I wish them no ill will, I do wish they’d either go away or become a part of the solution.

I’ll be watching to see if my polls opens on time tomorrow, because I WILL file a formal complaint as a disenfranchiased voter! I know a few other people ready to do the same. To Beth “Incompetent” White: We’re watching!

  • OldtimeDem

The reason you won’t find Peterson’s vote for Mayor is that he was a Hamilton County resident. Check their records. He vote for Evan after his father donated 500k to his campaign. In return he was made chief of staff however he was so inept that he only held that position for 3 months. He was shipped to IDEM where he met Bill Shrewsberry and Melina Kennedy and the rest was history, errr misery…

  • GoodOneWilson

OldtimeDem, if I understand your comment correctly, you are saying Bart’s votes don’t show up because he lived in Hamilton County?

From the “About Bart” page on indygov.org:
“Mayor Peterson is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis. He graduated from North Central High School, Purdue University and the University of Michigan Law School.”

Like I said, that’s a lot of missed votes in 11 years Bart! Oh, and nice try again Wilson, ha!

  • Anonymous

The wouldn’t show up in a municipal election…

  • noDuh

Could someone post the vote-record from the 65% tax increase here?

  • Wilson46201

Young Bart Peterson went to college (including law school) outside of Marion County which probably explains his Indianapolis non-voting during his 20’s.

  • GoodOneWilson

He could have voted when he was 18 while at North Central, like many responsible and caring young individuals do. Regardless, your comment about Ballard missing one vote is a perfect example of your arguments, and it can easily come back on you.

  • http://valuesalliance.org Lalita

    What a race!

There’s a two-term Democratic incumbent who should be riding a wave of love and adoration to an overwhelming win and a challenger who, without the support of the GOP machine, is putting in quite a showing of either the “better Ballard than Bart” crew or the “Ballard is our boy” group.

If Mayor Peterson wins, he should listen up–nothing but hubris would keep him from understanding that people aren’t as happy with him as he’d like people to believe. If Candidate Ballard wins, he should develop listening as a skill–a new mayor who is tone deaf to the concerns of the people is no better than what we have now.

I know all those absentee voters and new voter registrants are all about making sure their bartie wins !

Abdul please ask Beth White what the plan is for moving the absentee ballots. Word on the street is Ms. White has no plans for Our absentee ballots.
