<description>Libertarian Plan 2001... yes, it was issued in 2001, SIX years before any of this happened!

Base the rate on the square footage of the home. This number MUST be reported anytime a house is sold, so the information is readily accessible. Oh, and it would cut out Assessors altogether... now THAT alone should be worth something! ;-)

Is it regressive? Doubtful. The bigger the home, the higher the price. Typically the lower income earners are not going to be able to purchase or live in the larger homes.

When you think about it honestly, does it really cost more for the Fire Department, Police Department, or Department of Public Works to provide service to my home just because my home is assessed at a higher price/value than the home next to me? The answer is, No.

When it&#039;s based off of square footage, taxpayers also have the CHOICE of how much they are wiling to pay in taxes. Don&#039;t want to pay $5K a year? Don&#039;t buy the bigger house. Pretty simple.

<description>Everyone in the same county should pay the same amount. We all get the same great services and have to drive on the same streets and hit the same bumps. We also have the same wonderful people in local government so I for one, think the size of your garage or living romm should not matter. To those in government, we are all just a number.

		<description>AARC________________________
African American Republican Council of Marion County
Post Office Box 1061*Indianapolis, IN 46206 * [317] 956-0274

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOVEMBER 1, 2007

CONTACT: JOCELYN-TANDY ADANDE
AARC PRESIDENT

ENDORSEMENT FOR MAYOR
GREG BALLARD

Members of the African American Republican Council are on the record to vote

and to give our support to Greg Ballard as the next mayor for the City of Indianapolis

over the next four years.

It is without a doubt Mr. Ballard brings to the office a sincere commitment for

diversity, integrity and solid ideas for the future of this city. Mr. Ballard as a

candidate for mayor is unencumbered by special interests groups and other

traditional controlling influences. A proven leader with a strong military background

in the U. S Marine Corps can certainly benefit our city against any form of terrorists

threats. His approach for safer neighborhoods and having received the support from

the Fraternal Order of Police will help to reassure citizens of their safety and security

in their homes. Mr. Ballard has promised open public meetings and no blank pages

in the city’s annual budgets is a commitment that was lacking in the current

administration.

We call upon all African Americans and other concerned citizens to cast their

votes for a change in the mayor’s office. Vote for Greg Ballard for Mayor on Tuesday,

November 6th.

The future of our great city is at stake in the election!

<description>The truely scary thing is if the reassessments were to result in significantly lower values, the tax rate will have to increase to meet the levy, or is the rate itself frozen?

<description>Sad thing is the amount of the check won&#039;t even cover the cost of the movers when I&#039;m forced to sell at a huge loss.

		<description>Here&#039;s one for you...

I got my original tax bill in... what was it, June?

I expected the RATE to go up but not the assessed value of my property.

Between 2003 and now my property went from being valued at $80,000 to $120,000 and now $180,000. Considering I bought it for $76,000, that&#039;s the surprising part.

So back in June, before the reassessment was ordered I filed an appeal of the assessment and never heard anything back.

The the reassessment occurred. I get my bill in the mail, BUT it is completely LACKING any details of what the assessor&#039;s office has valued my property! It just shows I owe slightly less (5%-ish) than the original June bill!

It&#039;s on me to follow-up with my original appeal, but how can the state/county/whomever send out a &quot;reassessment&quot; without showing what value the property in question has been assessed at?!?!
