Although Marion County voters just got done with one election, another could be right around the corner should 7th District Congresswoman Julia Carson not complete her term in office due to health reasons.
Unlike state or local races where if an incumbent doesn’t finish his or her term, their political party gets to fill the vacancy, with congressional offices a special election would be held and political parties would only get to choose their nominees. This would likely be done by a vote of 7th District precinct committeemen who would face each other in a runoff. So there is no guarantee that if an incumbent leaves, someone of their political persuasion would automatically get the spot.
So far the only declared mainstream challenger for the seat is Republican Representative Jon Elrod. Marion County Treasurer Mike Rodman has also openly expressed interest running if Carson doesn’t. Former Congressman Andy Jacobs is endorsing City-County Council Member Andre Carson for the job. Andre is also the grandson of the incumbent and has not made his intentions public.
And speaking of “special” elections, my sources tell me City-County Council Democrats are deadlocked over who should be their minority leader. They are split (long racial lines) over whether the leader should be current Vice-president Joanne Sanders or Monroe Gray, the current Council President.
Nominating a possible successor to Julia Carson can be complicated with all the factors involved, but this one seems like a no-brainer to me.

hmmm. so joanne is better, huh? ok, maybe not as personally corrupt but she DID support gray as council president, blockage the investigation into his ethical issues, and — this is the worst — participated in his fund raiser a few weeks ago.
joanne is a major hypocrite. she claims to be all about the people but has not problem taxing their asses off. she flippantly talk about the stadium tax as being no big deal as it is just a sales tax. IT’S A FREAKIN’ TAX JOANNE. WE ARE ALL PAYING IT.
she is widely rumored to have some skeletons. there are people working on this. look at her line of work. there are going to be issues.
don’t drink the kool aid, abdul. she acts all nicey, nicey but she simply is crooked too. time for a clean slate for the democrat leadership. onthe other hand, let them pick gray and rot for another few years.

JoAnne is “very” dirty, she was just as unethical as Haith and Gray on the night of the vote on his ethics violation.

She was shameful too! No leader behaves that unethically, and so willingly. She appeared to really ENJOY it too. Like she was getting off. LOL
If the democrat party wantw any credibility or respect, they’ll allow one of the other white democrat ccc members to serves as minority leader.

good grief, what does the color of ones skin have to do with their ability to lead. How about this, their merit and willingness to work for the people and not themselves. Doing it ethically and with reguard for the future of the city. That within itself eliminates her all the way around. Please, please dont bring ones race into it, its all ways a loosing battle and there is always someone if not many people overlooked because of that 1950’s mentality
